  1. Look at the sub-PCB and notice the "NTC" in the upper right. NTC means Negative Temperature Coefficient ie a thermistor. The thermistor will be mounted under the sub-PCB.
  2. A whole week without any green snot anywhere near the UK. Hallelujah!
  3. Another glorious British high summer's day. Outdoor temp 14C, so dull I need room lighting during the afternoon, moderate rain from a leaden sky, and indoors it's so chilly that I'm contemplating switching on the central heating. My solar lights in the garden haven't worked all week due to lack of sunshine.
  4. Looks like this summer is following the well-trodden path of the past few. The plume always forecast in 3-4 days time fails to materialise or gets batted into the Continent by yet another bloody trough.
  5. And if I can whisper the forbidden words - Grand Minimum (ducks for shelter)
  6. Day dawned cloudy and remained overcast until lunch time when long sunny intervals developed. Felt very warm and muggy. When I emerged from my local recreation centre at 6pm it was pelting down. I understand there was thunder but I was swimming with my waterproof mp3 player turned right up so didn't hear the thunder, the pool hall window blinds were down so I couldn't see outside. Looking at the radar the storms brewed up over the Cheshire plain and were restricted to our area. Overnight min:14.4C, max 25.5C (sheltered), current 18.0C. Overcast 8/8. Calm F0. Currently no precipitation, ground wet. Pressure 1016mb.
  7. Last night was clear but cloud formed around dawn (I was awake) however it melted away around 9am to leave sunny conditions with a smattering of fair-weather Cu. Bit of a breeze all day, I'd say F2. Currently almost overcast with Sc, coverage 7/8 with just a small patch of blue visible here and there. Dry all day. Very chilly last night: min 7.7C in early June! Max 22.6C (sheltered), currently 17.7C. Pressure 1013mb. The photo at the top of today's article "West still best for now, sunshine spreading this weekend" looks to me like a view of the Mid-Cheshire Ridge with Frodsham Hill at the extreme right.
  8. Cloudy this morning with a distinct chill in the air - on the first day of meteorological summer! Definitely a fleecy hoodie sort of day. However sunny intervals developed after lunch and it became warm in my garden, enough to be topless. Currently overcast 8/8. Dry all day, light air F1. Pressure 1023mb. Overnight min 10.4C, max 22.7C, currently 14.0C. We've still got that problem of winds coming from a cold quarter as it has all spring. Can we have some TC please? Or at least some TM which is OK in summer.
  9. A fine day but breezy, a good F3 still blowing. Not so chilly last night, min 10.4C. Max in sheltered garden 22.7C, currently 16.3C. Pressure 1020mb Long sunny intervals but cloud increased from the east around teatime, still quite cloudy but too dark to estimate coverage. Dry all day.
  10. Likes: Heat, sunshine, any rain overnight especially thunderstorms to enjoy curled up in bed. Dislikes: Cold, cloudy with cold NW winds from PM air masses, just as we've had this spring, and during the past three summers.
  11. Late Summer Bank Holiday 1989? I remember it well, ironically the Monday afternoon was spent at Pickmere, Cheshire, just like this Bank Holiday Monday.
  12. Another nice day, looks like the weather gods didn't realise this was a bank holiday!. Day dawned clear but varying amounts of cloud during the day, almost overcast for much of the afternoon with nearly 8/8 Cu. Breezy at times particularly in the morning but currently light air F0-1. Overnight min 9.7C, max 22.3C, also measured 21C at Pickmere (Cheshire) early afternoon. Currently 16.0C. Pressure 1018mb. Currently clear with some Sc and St, no more than 2/8. Water temp. in Pickmere itself 19C which is about right for the time of year.
  13. A proper early summer day despite a chilly night (min 9.4C). Longer sunny intervals than yesterday with corresponding reduction of cloud. Max 22.8C (sheltered) currently 17.6C at pretty well 9pm. Quite clear, very small amount of what appears to be Sc, coverage less than 1/8. Pressure 1013mb. Looking at the smoke from a neighbour's BBQ rising vertically, dead calm F0. Plenty of opportunity for topless sunbathing this afternoon with the sun having quite a bit of power. Dry all day.
  14. Not a bad day for a change, however it must be borne in mind that meteorological summer begins on Wednesday so not before time. Last night was still cold for the end of May: min 9.1C. Max today was 23C in a sheltered south-facing garden. Currently 15.7C and falling. Found my weather station had defaulted to -50m ASL, so corrected to +60m ASL and now reading 1012mb. Sunny intervals but Cu built up enough during the afternoon to lead me to believe we were in for a shower. Currently quite cloudy, a good 7/8. Breezy this morning but currently light air F1. No precipitation. This evening was mild enough for barbecues.
  15. Thought today was going to be yet another cold, dank cloudfest like we've had throughout this spring, but I was agreeably surprised to see the sun come out around 2pm. Was able to catch some rays in the back garden without shivering for a change. Last night was unseasonally cold at 8.6C, however the max in my sheltered garden was 22C, Liverpool ATIS reported 18C at 3pm, currently 16C here. Pressure 998mb, calm F0-1, seems to have partially clouded over at 4/8. No precipitation.
  16. A repeat of yesterday. Cold, damp and overcast. 10C at midday on a late May day, bloody ridiculous. Liverpool ATIS reporting 11C dp 10C with light showers.
  17. I've been in the Scottish Highlands as far as Inverness travelling through the night, and the "Simmer Dim" around the solstice can be a little disconcerting if you've not experienced it.
  18. Horrible day, dry but cloudy and cold, so cold I've had to turn on the heating. Outdoor temp currently 10.7C and it's been around that all day. Now raining,. almost calm, wind F0-1. Liverpool ATIS reports light rain, temp 11C DP 8C.
  19. I'm fair skinned and freckled all over however I use my sunlamp over the winter and start sunbathing outdoors in March (weather permitting) so I can withstand the mid-day sun during the summer months without burning. On a different tack, I hope that persistent cold NW breeze we've endured over previous springs and summers doesn't materialise. Looking at the next few days it already appears to be the start of an incursion of PM air. So far May here has up to now seen very cold sub-10C nights, cold winds with maximum temps below 16C. There have been very few notable exceptions.
  20. No sunbathing this afternoon, strong, chilly NW breeze probably girding its loins ready for the PM assault this coming "summer" if the past four "summers" are anything to go by. Echoing previous comments, 13C on a mid-May afternoon isn't anything to write home about, while April was more like March.
  21. August has a long record of mediocrity, and I'm talking of over 60 years' experience. 1950s Augusts always seemed good, however during the '60s Augusts were mixed, Two particularly nasty Augusts were 1962 and 1963 which formed a sandwich with the filling That Winter. Ironically September 1963 delivered the goods but of course I was back in school. The autumn was so mild that PE was often taken outdoors on the playing fields in shorts only, no top needed. I really hope this year delivers the decent summer that bucks the trend of increasingly cold summers dominated by PM airmasses and that permanent NW wind.
  22. Report at 8pm BST Overnight min: 12.2C; Max: 18.5C; Current 14.2C. Current conditions: light to moderate rain that began in earnest around 1pm, prior to that sunny intervals with cloud slowly building. Liverpool ATIS reports 15C with dp 14C @18:50Z (my airband reception poor because of the low cloud and rain). Wind light Easterly (guess), overcast, light air F1-2. Looking at the radar there's a ribbon of rain crossing the middle of the country from the east.
  23. Conditions as of 8:00pm BST: Overnight min: 11.8C, max 29.6C (sheltered, S. facing), current 21.5C. Liverpool ATIS reporting 20C dp 11C @ 18:50Z. Dry, no precipitation during the past 24hrs. Quite breezy earlier, F3-4 but now light breeze F2. Significant high cloud but sun visible, coverage 6/8. Today has been as hot as I could desire, sadly it isn't going to last.
  24. Overnight min 11.8C, max (sheltered S. facing garden)29.6C, currently 22.9C. Light breeze F2. No precipitation, currently dry after overnight light rain. Fair, some high cloud 2/8. Went swimming in Hatchmere (Delamere Forest, Cheshire) and was expecting a water temp of 10-12C. Was surprised to find 17C, taken using the FINA stipulated method at 400mm (about 2ft) depth.
  25. Past half hour or so heavy drops which are still falling. Been quite dark for the last hour. Overnight min 10.8C, currently 16.7C, light air.
