  1. Finally turned our heating on for a bit today!
  2. Not yet, and probably won't until it falls to around freezing during the evening. Flat is so well insulated we can keep it warm just by cooking dinner! We've even still got the windows open most of the time at the moment.

    Need Help On The Site/forum?

Have to add my voice too, it's driving me bananas! It's happening on all pages I navigate to (forum/ forecasts) Using Chrome/ Windows 7
  4. You have my sympathies! After two days of working for 8 hours in 32 degree heat in my workshop, I'm not feeling too fab. I think I'd be very ill if I had to endure those sort of temps at home too. One tip I can recommend (from some US chums) is putting a damp towel in the freezer for 10-20 mins. Draped over your neck/ shoulders, it'll really helps, as it cools the blood flow to your brain. It's been absolute bliss after walking 2 miles home.

    Noctilucent Clouds Season 2018

Spotted the magnificent display over Brum this Friday morning too. Quite something! Sadly my phone camera couldn't capture the beauty anywhere as well as Arnie's did (plus my view was blocked by buildings).
  6. Had a short sharp shower about 10 mins ago. Just seen a flash of lightning and faint rumble of thunder.
  7. It's calmed down in Brum, with some blue sky making an appearance, but can also see towers going up on the south East horizon. Will have to see if it comes our way or skirts more northward.
  8. Wow, just had a huge lightning strike close by! Sounded like a cannon going off and vibrate our building. Set all the car alarms going!
  9. It's going to be interesting to see how much rain gets recorded falling in Brum. Just torrential downpour after another, with the horizon disappearing each time.
  10. I suspect the road out the front of the Mailbox will be flooded, as it's prone to doing that in any heavy rain.
  11. This thunderstorm is not stopping. Constant strobe lightning and the amount of rain is just incredible!
  12. Loving it! Feeling spoilt here in Brum, it's definitely making up for the poor showing last year!

    Midlands Regional Discussion

Oh God yes, so depressing. I've had a major case of the cantbearseditis and have done nothing productive all week. Going to the cinema tomorrow to watch Ghost Stories to cheer myself up.

Wet snow (decent size flakes) falling in Brum city centre right now alongside rain. Don't expect it to settle as it's too warm and wet.
  15. I'm pretty sure that the winds we've had tonight were much stronger than the 34mph gusts predicted by MetO. Strong enough to vibrate the walls of the flat.
  16. Man, temperature has really dropped noticeably in the last hour or two.
  17. Snowing heavily in Brum city centre. Wind is so strong outside the flat it's just blowing horizontally past the window!

Is a secondary cold pool still on the cards at this point? I seem to remember it being mentioned in the MOD thread in relation to another (smaller?) SSW?
  19. You're not alone! Have posted on FB a couple of times to give friends a heads up, so it's up to them now. Even the Lodger has been a bit sceptical about how bad it could be as I passed him the fifth can of tomato soup
  20. @BleakMidwinter Ah, the only person I know with a woodstove lives on a houseboat, so it'd be a bit cramped!
  21. Hah! That's about the same time I moved to Brum from Bethnal Green. It would be massively ironic if they get the biggest dumping of snow after we left, although to be fair, the snow we had in December was deeper than anything I'd seen in London.
  22. Hey Matt, another ex-Londoner?
  23. Did the first big stock up of food today, even picked up a torch. Mind you, if we have a power cut we're a bit borked as everything in the flat runs on electric! The only plus point is we're very well insulated, although as we're East facing I'm really noticing the wind giving the window a little bit of a rattle already. All the workmen doing the Holloway Head slipway were moving the equipment out today. Maybe they've been warned about the freezing conditions coming?

More like walks into a pub showing the World Cup Final, and asks them to put University Challenge on ;p

Hah! Anyone who gripes are welcome to spend a day working with me in sub zero temps.
