  1. Thanks! Looks a pretty deep area of low pressure. Let's see if it comes off?
  2. Not sure what is happening with this second low tonight? The Metoffice warning seems odd. Must be quite a lot of uncertainty.
  3. Just spoken to a friend in Orkney and she said it wasn't too bad, very windy but with little damage. Power out in places and a few trees and lamp posts down. Just goes to show how resilient the highlands and islands are when it comes to significant storms.
  4. Well we rarely even get a warning up here for 80mph winds or snow. Seems the MO forget that there are 22,000 people up here.
  5. It maybe because it is hitting places overnight, so the impact to life is lower? Power disruption and structural damage risk is still there though.
  6. Thanks Liam. Might be a bit wild then. Saturday looks bad in southern Shetland.
  7. To me eye it looks like the extreme winds are further north on this with Orkney getting the worst?
  8. True, not sure what to make of it really. I expect it to be a non-event here.
  9. Still uncertainty. See what the ECM brings... The GFS (P) has not been the most reliable model lately.
  10. Xc weather has 90mph winds for Lerwick on Saturday, is this likely?
  11. Yes, our local forecaster has said although Shetland could miss the worst of the winds tonight, there is a risk that the storm may track further north and affect us - hence the yellow warning from the MO. He also said Saturday storm may be quite bad for us, but not so bad for the mainland.
  12. Moving through very quickly - by 8 am the strongest winds are out in the North Sea. Interesting to watch the track of this coming in as my local forecaster said that it could track further north last minute.
  13. Something just doesn't feel right about how intense these storms are. I would be surprised if they are not downgraded or move north overnight. 110mph is very high and unusual even for northern Scotland.
  14. There might be a last minute downgrade overnight or a shift north as is often the case with these lows.
  15. Thanks, yes it does look windy....although it is not unusual to see 90mph up here as it happens most winters. The sea swell looks very rough for Shetland on Saturday.
  16. Looking pretty bad here on the second storm so sea conditions will be awful
  17. 115mph....we had this before, but I expect downgrades on actual wind speeds.
  18. My local council contingency planners said back in November that the Metoffice didn't expect it to be a cold winter and it has, so far, been correct. The council here are not buying anymore road salt, so they must have some updated information?
