  1. No, the North Sea is still warmer than the Baltic Sea and parts of N Germany saw massive convection there. I suspect that it is due to the strength of the wind. Lighter yesterday. There will be some heavier showers today, but I don't see them surviving more than around 50 miles in land. Lincolnshire and E Yorkshire could do well today and tonight. Maybe NE Nottinghamshire to.
  2. In terms of snowfall, this has to be the worst easterly! On Sunday, the warnings mentioned that rural communities to the east are likely to become cut off due to heavy, drifting snowfall. There was even mentions of thunder snow showers. Those have now been watered down. I suspect, come the weekend some places will still have no snow cover.
  3. Yes, the local weather office is now expecting "well over 15cm" to fall by the morning in Guernsey and Alderney.
  4. Strangely, the Channel Islands - Guernsey is reporting 8cm of snow so far...... probably the highest total so far in England. Plus severe drifting with over a ft drifts in rural areas.
  5. This event did not warrant a warning. Absolutely pathetic.
  6. Unfortunately, the slow progression of the front will allow temperatures to rose slightly ahead of the main PPN. I suspect areas in the East on low levels will be disappointed to see it be sleety rather than snowy this afternoon. Odd really to see western parts of England snowier than the east. I suspect you will have to be around 200m to see decent accumulations - albeit temporary.
  7. BBC just said very little, if any snow, away from the hills and mountains of the NW this week. Less cold and wet and windy mid week and then cooler and drier towards the end of week. I suspected it wasn't going to be the cold people were saying just yesterday. Even here in Lerwick 4C isn't cold!
  8. Really underwhelming forecast on the BBC for the next few days. Wintery in the NW with snow on hills....rain, sleet and hail at the coasts and low levels in the north and west. Southern areas average with periods of wind and rain.
  9. According to the UKMO update, they are not onboard with the block winning. I know this is subject to change, but their lack of support for any extensive cold concerns me. Remember *some* of the models were showing cold uppers for this weekend and it was watered down to a cool weekend with daytime temperatures actually hitting 8C in the South. Better GFS though a suspect a battleground is setting up with, maybe, some interest before the Atlantic wins in later runs.
  10. Indeed. Cold air now in Shetland. We have already received 6 cm of lying snow today at sea level.
  11. Try visiting Shetland we often get winds like this or higher. In fact, yesterday we had gusts of 77mph in Lerwick Town Centre.
  12. Driven over the tops from Manchester to Sheffield this afternoon and was shocked to see very little snow. Been an odd set up...even with altitude it was largely drizzle and there was a lack of a cover over the Snake Pass. Car was saying 2C which was the same at the low levels to the east. My friend in Fulwood, Sheffield says it was wet snow there and he is 1000ft above sea level.
  13. 1cm covering now in central Lincolnshire. Some heavier showers now. Tomorrow is looking underwhelming. Low land snow is a no go.
  14. A recent BBC weather Facebook live cast have downplayed this cold snap and the rest of February. He even mentioned "spring like" next week in any brighter periods with temps potentially hitting 11-13C. He did say that this winter had so much potential, but failed to deliver any proper winter weather. He also made a good point that quite a few of our summers do the same thing in terms of prolonged heat and sunny periods. Anyway a few more weeks and spring will be here!!! There is always next winter....
  15. BBC weather 'Yorkshire' did a Facebook live cast for the upcoming event on Saturday. Very underwhelming. Basically, although cold, there just isn't enough flow to either ''pep-up'' the showers or drive them enough inland to get any noticeable accumulations. The occlusion on Saturday is complex as there is ''less cold'' air behind it which will spread across England through the day. Low levels right across the country will have little chance of snow come lunchtime onwards on Saturday as temps could rise to 3-5C. Main focus of the Met office's attention is the *potential* for modest falls at elevation (200+m) over the Pennines, York and Staff Moors and hills to the NE and possibly the Lincs wolds. He stated there could be 2-5cm over 250m dusting below that. Not concerned for SE or Midlands. Wintry mix here with some wet snow to higher ground, but unlikely to settle.
  16. Yes. BBC and Met going for 4C and rain on Saturday for mist lowland areas now. Latest forecast says wintry mix with some snow on eastern Pennines but nothing major. Models may be overplaying the amount of precipitation on Saturday.
  17. Well the cold air is here. Some light snow flurries around today, tonight and through Friday. These light in nature and pretty isolated. Lincs northwards may get some slightly heavier ones tomorrow. Saturday is looking messy. Very grey, cold and occasional wintery showers. Unlikely to be any *significant* snow away from say the Eastern Pennies and NE. Low land likely to see a wintry mix through Saturday daytime. Temps 3-5C.
  18. Light snow here in the Lincolnshire Wolds. Temp has dropped to 1.8C was 3C at 9am.
  19. Yep, unfortunately it isn't looking as good as it did earlier this week. Snow prospects are going to be limited and only really *fleeting flurries* mainly in eastern areas. Gloomy and night time minima won't be as cold where there is continued cloud cover. In fact, some coastal areas could remain above freezing. Disappointing really.
  20. Yes. Wednesday evening until Friday evening is where there is the *opportunity* for some light sleet and snow showers along eastern coastal counties I.e. Northumberland, Durham, Yorks, Lincs, Norfolk....however, low *risk* of anything meaningful. Unfortunately, snow prospects for the weekend have, in my opinion, downgraded due to the slightly warmer sectors and higher dewpoints from the small low off the east coast on Saturday. Again *low* risk at sea level with rain being the likely outcome. Opportunity for some snowfall on the eastern slopes of the Pennines say 200m+ It will still feel raw with high windchill and a strong breeze off the sea in the east. Western areas may stay dry and bright.
  21. Winter is most definitely over. 15 C next week in any sunshine in the South. Think most on the MOD thread are clutching the very final straws.
  22. Had a full on blizzard last night which gave over 15cm in places with drifting higher. All schools closed and the airport is now closed to. Still snowing a bit here. Temp 0.0c dew -0.7
  23. Yep, Met have identified this feature as an issue and have warning out for northern and central Scotland. Heaviest snow will be across the far north, then weakening as it moves south.
  24. This has been modelled for the past few days. It is an occuled front pushing into N. Scotland tomorrow and then moving south and weakening. Heavy snow for northern and central Scotland and maybe NI. Wintery mix further south and lighter.Shetland might see a bit though
