  1. A very oppressive night although managed to sleep reasonably well. Some rain overnight but not enough, about 2mm. Already a sticky and humid feeling 20.8c, hopefully get more rain.
  2. I’m just coming back from Carlisle so can’t see this shower yet. I think it may miss to my West. Hottest day of the year by miles today. Was at Cumberland show, car reading 30c currently. Back home over the border it’s currently 29.2c. Bring on the thunderstorms!
  3. Yesterday the coolest in a while. Scraped 20c with a keen breeze Yellow warning out for Sunday in relation to thunderstorms so fingers crossed… The heat looks set to continue (photo). Currently 18.7c, should make 22c.
  4. Also got up a hill (Harter Fell - Lake district) today. Then after finding a cracking pub we sauntered up to Lowther Castle. Really is stunning and glad to see it’s been restored. (Technically this is all NW England but sue me)
  5. Yesterday the sun broke through about 11:30. The forecast for today said it would be earlier but it wasn’t, about 12:45. Under the cloud and wind it was 12c at 9am and felt very chilly. Huge contrast once the sun is through though, currently 18.5c and climbing quickly.
  6. Lovely day visiting my nana at Southerness last night, a very quiet beach walk. Warmest of the year so far, max 24.6c. Today, climbed a wee hill which has good views over the solway. Gained prominence in the 18th century as a vantage point where government guards watched for smugglers from the Isle of Man. Max 23.8c
  7. Another incredible day. Change of scenery today went on a walk just over the border into the Scottish borders off the A7. A stroll about 200/250m asl so was a bit cooler. Back home, 23.8c currently. A carbon copy for yesterday and Friday.
  8. Very useful definitions. Here we got 1.8mm on the 20th of May so not a dry spell but last rain before that was the 8th. We’ll be in a partial drought by Tuesday.
  9. You’re wasting your time with these folk who clearly want the UK to have a Spanish climate and/or speak only from a SE perspective. Everyone I speak to locally is going on about how dry it is and that we need rain. The grass isn’t growing well due to lack of moisture. Farming is a massive employer, we need good harvests of crops. A partial drought is defined as 29 days with less than an average of 0.2mm per day. Some areas will be there already, i’ll be there from Tuesday. Reservoir levels aren’t the only factor when we talk about dry weather but yes of course that is a massive factor and thankfully it’s early in the summer. The heat can stay or even build (Not had one day below 20c in the last week, average for June is only 17c) but some showers are also needed.
  10. Went to Campsie show today, cracking neck of the woods near Lenzie/Kirkintilloch. Reliably informed all the main drug dealers live there and can see why. Fantastic weather, already feeling warm. On Wunderground some sites near Glasgow are already showing 22c. Back home should get to 23/24c and a nice evening for a BBQ
  11. Lovely day again, played some golf in superb sunshine. Top layer of the soil getting pretty dry, growth getting very slow.
  12. That is indeed the riviera (I do love the jubilee walk) however no, that photo is from Powfoot. Quite often walk the dog on the beach and then get dinner at the hotel (Depends how recently payday was!). Mainly sunny now but that wind is quite keen. We briefly reached 21c but have fallen back, hopefully warmer tomorrow.
  13. Visited the beach last nice, was a cracking night and had it pretty much all to ourselves. Excellent visibility over to the lake district. As others have said, a very cloudy start. The sun started breaking through about 30 minutes ago and the temp has shot up from 15c to just shy of 17c. To be the coolest day of the week
  14. As @dryfie said earlier, the cloud just evaporated about 11am. Currently 23.7c and climbing. Wee bit of a breeze, perfect.
  15. Wasn’t in yesterday but probably warmest of the year. 23c is what the car was saying. Cloudier start as previous posts have covered however that strong sun has broken through. Currently 17.6c, should reach 24c today… Will look back on May 2023 as a dark horse. Slagged off on the MOD thread (SE bias) and not so good in the East however over here despite no real heat it’s been deceptively good. Just 25.4mm of rain (31% of average) and lots of sunshine. The average max according to the met office is 15c for May here. We’ll have smashed that, I no longer keep records but would anticipate an anomaly of +2/2.5c. Nights far closer to average though, consistently chilly. June is going to start off in the same vein. It can stay warm but we really could do with some rain…
  16. Today was previously forecast to be poor (15c and cloudy) but it’s been clear blue skies. Another met office failure Was up in Kilmarnock today and it was very pleasant. Back home, much the same. Maybe a shade warmer, a max of 19.4c. No wind and the strong sunshine is making it feel warmer than that. I start 3 weeks of annual leave from Wednesday and looks like i’ve timed it pretty well
  17. Went to Drymen show today, really nice agricultural show and it was busy. Cracking views over to Loch Lomond and associated hills/munros. Dry although I turned up in shorts and a t-shirt so needed to re-assess! Cloudy and breezy up there with a max of about 15c. Back in the tropical South it’s just about shorts weather. 20.6c currently, largely sunny. Northernlights - Haylage has been bailed and wrapped which shows how good May has been.
  18. Not to be ‘that guy’ but we do need some rain. Ground is getting hard. Roasting today, already 20.7c. Perfect weather (just some overnight thunderstorms needed to soak the grass)
  19. Some very welcome rain overnight although only 2mm. The days all seem to merge into one at the moment. Sunny at times, 18-20c and dry. Very useable Today is far more humid than recently, currently a warm feeling 19.2c with high level cloud. Looks very settled going forwards, quite normal for the time of year.
  20. Decent day, not as good as Saturday but far better than yesterday. High of 15.6c, a breeze picked up taking the edge off. Warmer tomorrow Took a nice walk up to waterloo monument, good visibility over the solway.
  21. Echo what the preceding posts have said. First >20c day of the year, 21.3c now. Gorgeous
  22. Great day yesterday, not really warm but pleasant. Max of 17.1c Today is a cracker, currently 18.6c. Full sunshine. May has been pretty decent here tbf
  23. Dodged the very potent looking showers to the West and North yesterday. Pleasant morning today, showers forecast to arrive later. Sunny spells and currently 17.1c.
  24. A damp morning turned into an increasingly sunny day. A slight wind kept temperatures around 18c all day (max 18.7c). Cracking evening
