Some cracking picks in here, some of you have lots of snow! Had to leave early doors so don’t have pics but was a lovely snowy start to the day. Been a bit more since this photo was taken, about 3cm. ‘Snow showers coming in from the SW’ - Now that is rare!

Aurora visible tonight even down here

First ‘ice’ day since last December. Admittedly my weather station is at my parents who have a small hill (100m) to their south meaning the winter sun is lost at 11:30am. February is when it gives a few more hours. A ‘max’ of -0.3c. In Dumfries itself, hit the dizzy heights of about 1c. I do love the amount of sunshine cold weather brings, makes a refreshing change to cloud, wind and rain!

Been a lovely spell this with lots of sunshine, a good start to winter. Coldest night so far at -6.7c. Eskdalemuir reached just shy of -8c, Shap below -9c. Chilly Chance of some snow in the early hours, i’d take a dusting! Currently have covid but slowly getting over it. Hoping i’ll be well enough on Sunday to tackle the 3 ‘easy’ munros near Glenshee ski centre.

Solid advice. As you say, going to the shops any decent jacket will do. However extended periods in the rain for say hillwalking or farming etc, you need layers. The trousers farmers wear are good, I usually have something similar over the top of my base layer. Then for the top half a thin waterproof rab (which is a size bigger than I am) over my normal coat and between both coats I stay pretty dry underneath. Ultimately most things will eventually soak through if it’s wet enough hence you need layers.

I was going to get a munro in Monday but my girlfriend is ill so we’ll see. I was pushing for the Cairngorm - Ben Macdui loop….. Temps to rise a wee bit but nothing too much. That photo is beyond sexy

That’s the Red warning issued for between Dundee and Aberdeen. Hopefully people heed advice to avoid travel in that area and surrounding areas. Lovely day yesterday, weak sunshine coming through. Breached 11c. Wind has picked up now though and is making it feel cold.

Was a shock to the system arriving home last night. Monday was a wet day in the Salerno area with temperatures around 18c. As per tradition, we were in the pool and sea despite the rain which shocked some Italians! In the valley near Shap about 1am car read -1.5c. I’m looking forward to chasing the snow start of next week. The weather looks nasty for the NE, hope you guys stay safe. Sunday was the last warmth i’ll feel for about 6 months!

Very similar for me atm. Hope you guys back home are enjoying the rain, the Italian weather since Saturday has been 26-30c and full sunshine. Lake Garda - Ferrara - Bologna - Florence - Rome. The Amalfi coast to follow for the next 5 days

It did finally pick up a bit, an official site near me at Dundrennan (right near the coast though) got a max gust of 61mph. I’d say we’ve reached 50 odd so more than Sunday, windows are creaking, letterbox flapping and the audibly wind roaring over the TV. Can’t really think what my worst storm has been, was discussing this with my girlfriend. I think climbing Hellvelyn 4/5 hours after the peak of storm Arwen was a poor call in hindsight. Skiddaw was ferocious last autumn, so much so my eyes swole up from how solid the rain was. Can’t say i’ve witnessed any storms cause structural damage on low ground. Rainfall - Another 30mm approximately so far, will find out exact figures in the morning. Given how dry the first 10 days were it’s impressive we’ll now be conservatively on about 185mm so 185% of average. Will be the wettest month of 2023 although third wettest in the last 12 months as Oct and Nov 22 brought 430mm between them.

Been a slow burn so far. Not really that windy and rain has been heavy at times, about 10mm so far. Not as much of a storm as Sunday was but plenty time to pick up

Brilliant post in the MOD thread @Kirkcaldy Weather. A really wet middle section of today when just shy of 10mm fell between 11 - 2pm. Fields have standing water in them and large puddles on the roads. Will be fun and games tomorrow, rain being the main issue locally. Those out in the far West could see some lively winds. Yesterday and this afternoon by contrast have been glorious. Both days reaching around 17c, lots of sunshine and quite humid. Very pleasant

I got 45.8mm from it so certainly a wet one. Agnes due to bring yet more rain…

I did speak a bit prematurely last night as our total rainfall since Saturday night has now been 46mm so a solid effort. Some welcome sunshine forecast today, a very mild start but still windy.

Didn’t start off too badly really, was 17.5c and the sun came out about 11am but the wind slowly increased as the day wore on. Really pretty wild conditions from about 5pm. I can hear the rain over the Rugby on the TV. Very windy but not proper storm territory, more ‘classic Scotland’. Just shy of 30mm so far, at the lower end of what was predicted. More rain to come this week.

I would think so, the Met Office matrix showed it was lack of confidence that’s keeping it at ‘Yellow’. I suspect we will see things ‘upgrade’ either this afternoon or first thing in the morning once the Hi Res models get a handle on where the rain will be most biblical.

I do agree the UK would be better with a little more sunshine as the last 48 hours have been great but overall I think we get very consistently useable weather. Good waterproofs really will make almost every day good for a walk etc. Given people are posting yearly rainfall amounts, official SEPA site has my average at approx 1330mm. So nearly double what the Southern softies get. Everyone has different preferences. Imo >25c is too much imo to be doing manual labour outside. >30c I want access to water. We live in the UK so what’s the point moaning if it’s sub 20c. My annual max in July is 19.4c and i’m one of the warmest spots in Scotland. Reading through this thread my observation is lots of people seem to let the weather get them down, better to just embrace it. I love all seasons so bring on Sunday’s 30-50mm! Lovely, if I didn’t have a broken hand i’d be going up a hill to experience even worse weather. My eyes swole up after doing Skiddaw in a rainstorm without goggles for my eyes, that’s how aggressive the rain was. Loved it

Yesterday and today have been lovely early autumn days. Plenty weak sunshine, v mild afternoons but fresh mornings. A reprieve from the monsoon. At 106mm so far (106% of average for the month) and early weather warnings now out for Western Scotland for Sunday. I did think weather warnings were inevitable given the duration of the rain. Not ideal in the medium/long term as it seems every autumn we flood and Oct - Jan is our wet season (with a cumulative average of 600mm for those 4 months). A wet September is not welcome.

Very wet since Monday evening. Approx 30mm. A very mild night, a low of 15.8c. Very windy.

Correct re a North/South split, a ‘max’ of 11.8c here today, currently 10.6c. Rained all day, Autumn is firmly here. Resisting the urge to put the heating on so far

Loved last night. Mild but very wet, dark and windy. Autumn has arrived Looks like a lot of rain in my neck of the woods tomorrow, quite the contrast from last week!

Pretty hideous. 26.7c atm, dewpoint over 19c. Full cloud cover and RH still holding over 70%. Much preferred earlier in the week such as Monday when it was sunny, 22/23c with low humidity.
