  1. A low of -0.4c, was frosty when I was up at 4am.
Down in Merseyside today, lovely and sunny. Winds were light, so much so the midges (the really tiny ones) were surprisingly a nuisance.

Reliably informed it’s been a decent day back home. Home weather station is at 11.9c. At least April has finally calmed down and we’re getting some warm sunshine.

  2. The morning was disappointing as the showers were fairly potent. The afternoon was lovely however, winds fell lighter and very sunny reaching 12.8c.

Fields are now starting to look really good, plenty grass coming through. I passed a gritter working (Felt weird when the car was still reading 13c and I had the A/C on due to my car being a greenhouse) earlier so anticipating a frost.

  3. Whilst the nagging wind is a bit on the cool side, both Tuesday and Wednesday were lovely days. Really feeling warm (ish) in the early afternoon with some shelter. Maxes of 13c and 12c.

Ground is drying up well. I sympathise with those in the East who will have had enough of cool cloudy weather if an easterly develops. However for me in the West it should be fairly sunny and pleasant.

  4. Unusually wet for April. Another 24.6mm which will take us to 85mm for the month, already above the monthly average.
So windy as well, was gusting to 40mph for a short time earlier.

On a positive note, the sun is packing a punch now. Before the rain arrived yesterday the car was reading 14c and it certainly felt very mild.

We really need some drier weather.

  5. Reliably informed it was a nice weekend, sadly I was in cloudy Germany for that.

Was a poor Monday here and today is shocking. March reached nearly 150mm of rain which is well above average.

April is statistically our driest month (77mm) but it looks like in a weeks time we’ll be rapidly approaching that figure… Grim.
Only positive is I’ve heard lambing went well overall, no harsh cold to cause problems.

used to do 4-4 and its the best working pattern ever! bought my kids up on it, sometimes some of  the mothers thought i didn't work at all as i never slept between two 12 hours days and two twelve hour nights - two 12 hour days and two 12 hour nights, then a sleep day and then back to work ... bliss 🙂

I currently do 4/4 and it’s amazing. Best shift pattern i’ve worked, perhaps in the future I might go back to an office job and ideally get condensed hours and work Mon - Thurs 10 hour days. That would be a close second to 4/4.

Looks like a tasty storm coming, what’s most rare about this is that for 4 days in a row (Sat to Tues) it’ll be pretty windy. The sunny cold weather will be a distant memory soon sadly.

You'd also need to ensure the teachers were employed locally too. I could be at my nearest high school in 5mins in the car but drive 35mins. I probably pass lots of the teachers from my nearest school driving the other way. Most schools close as the staff can't get in safely, roads inadequately ploughed and gritted etc, especially in rural areas.

I enquired through my local councillors a while back about whether the council could look at travel distance as a factor when employing teachers at individual schools, more from an emissions, work balance angle but also resilience in poor weather. The answer that came back was that they couldn't as they felt it would contravene employment law (no more detail given). Wouldn't even consider actively asking if teachers wanted to volunteer to 'swap'. There just no lateral thinking in the UK at all.

We had a late start this morning by at my school, which helped as I dropped my son at his school for a Prelim. His school minibus didn't attempt to get up past our house, road was white but not that bad. He's now walking home rather than hang about, but that's his choice. I suspect with the MetO forecast for tonight that there will still be lots of school closures around Aberdeenshire tomorrow.

I work in the public sector for another big employer and it’s the exact same. Staff passing each other on the road (and where I live that’s 30+ miles each way).

This has been flagged up to bosses and the attitude is like it or lump it, stop complaining.

All training has been centralised and results (like me today) doing very high mileage, I just put 400 miles on a diesel in 2 days.

We have incredibly bad black ice here. Roads ok but pavements lethal.

Second this, heavy sleet for 30 mins made things lethal.
That shower popped up out of nowhere so fingers crossed for some surprises during the week.

I look forward to viewing the pics in this thread even if I myself am unlucky. I’m up in East Kilbride Tues and Wed this week so might see some flakes.
