  1. Reasonable confidence building for a potential Greenland High situation by next weekend...it's been a while...
  2. Yep the Howe of the Mearns are getting pasting this evening. Clova, Tarfside etc will have over 100mm I'd say
  3. Rainfall totals at 730pm for Aberdeenshire - I did actually expect more to be honest by this time... Cairnamount Snow Gates 75mm Banchory 63mm Inchmarlo 54mm Aboyne 45mm Cambus o May 39mm Corgarff 38mm Ballater 36mm Braemar 17mm
  4. The rain has been pretty insignificant so far in Aberdeen city with the wind being more of an issue. There has been some power outages and a few trees down. The worst of the rain at present seems to be in more inland locations
  5. I suppose there's a chance that the red alert area could be expanded as we get nearer the event? Stonehaven has a history of flooding and the river South Esk will be in full spate cascading down Glen Clova - would be quite a sight by Friday morning I'd imagine
  6. Regarding tomorrow's weather, it's unusual for an Atlantic low to bring colder air - most lows have a warm core sector - perhaps this is a cold core low? Anyone know or can explain? 6c is the max temperature for Aberdeen tomorrow which is very low for nearly mid April.
  7. What's the thoughts on tomorrow's snow level? I guess it will lower as the day progresses? A decent dumping over the higher routes I'd imagine
  8. Looks like we're about 10 miles too far south for that streamer - just too much of a westerly element if that Arctic flow now. Showers also losing intensity by the time they get near Aberdeen and tending to fizzle out. Yes I'm greedy too!
  9. Yeah saw that earlier - as you say, still low confidence on the position of the low but as soon as I saw that easterly feed the snow chances for the coast melted away! Potential for more wintry weather into the weekend though as the low tracks east
  10. Yeah disappointing shower activity for Eastern Aberdeenshire so far. Moray and West Aberdeenshire doing best for sure with more organised bands of snow - lighter and more isolated further east.
  11. Shower activity low in the past few hours in Aberdeen but will pep up again soon. Snow will now lie on most surfaces
  12. Well snow showers in Aberdeen city centre appear to be exclusively of snow now but I suspect it may be after dark before we see anything lying
  13. Merry Christmas all - looks like a white Xmas for some - currently snowing in Carrbridge and there might even be some flakes near sea level close to midnight. Met office now indicating sleet and 2c for Aberdeen at midnight although just been for a walk and wintry weather seems way off at present
  14. Those North Sea mild core lows really annoy me as it turns everything a good few degrees milder. Certainly a chance of a white Christmas with the Northerly setting in again later next week...
  15. Yeah moderate to heavy snow in Aberdeen the past 25 minutes now. Actually starting to get decent accumulations even at sea level. Think there was about 3" this morning, must getting on for about double that now. Radar suggests this prolonged shower will be on for another 20 mins yet at least
  16. Yeah watching that potential thundersnow to the east of Turriff at the moment - it might just miss Aberdeen to the east but it'll be tight. Still scattered showers falling as snow in Aberdeen city centre and lying on all surfaces no problem
  17. Snowy, orangey clouds to the North and North East of Aberdeen this afternoon but nothing showing up on the radar...
  18. How accurate is the Net Weather radar when it comes to Weather type? The radar showed green colours near Turriff around 930 this morning which denotes sleet but that shower left a covering of snow!
  19. Nice covering of snow this morning in Aberdeen city but slowly thawing since light with rain / sleet showers now.
  20. Still rather disappointing so far. Rain / sleet in Aberdeen. Even at the Glens of Foudland near Huntly it's all looking a bit wet rather than white at road level
  21. Still rain showers in Aberdeen city. Only white I can see on webcams at the moment is at Braemar and Cockbridge so above 300m - as is Cushnie seen earlier this evening in this thread
  22. Yes November / December 2010. The NE'ly meant the snow started to pile into Perthshire - I think Auchterarder got some very deep snow for example
  23. It seems like years since we had a decent northerly in Aberdeen. Greenland highs have been rare of course. Bar the odd easterly, it's been more of a Polar Maritime Westerly bringing colder weather in recent years and that doesn't bring snow to the North East. Should be an interesting 2 weeks ahead although I'm not confident (yet?) about a decent coverage near seal level on the coast...
  24. Do the hottest recordings generally happen between 3pm and 5pm?
