Well that was a bit of a surprise. The snow has all but reloaded all we lost in the partial thaw today , thanks to the Stour Streamer which always serves Canterbury well. Could even be more on the way. Snow was much more intense than the Sunday / Monday fall and built up more quickly , -4 C outside now.

Show how much location count. In Canterbury I would go for 8/10 . Slightly iffy start with more rain than expected , until it turned on Sunday into a period of 36 hours of near continual snow. .Bitter and sustained cold plus a decent top up on Monday night. Think this cold air will be hard to push away., Brighton may get some break down snow Saturday / Sunday .. Think I will have to wait a bit longer ..

Pretty much snowed for 12 hours solid in Canterbury, very light at the moment but radar shows more coming this way , is now around -2.1 C. Pavements and road frozen solid, roads look menacing now. Would not want to drive anywhere tomorrow. Metoffice going for heavier spell of snow overnight, with lighter but continual snow on Monday , Beeb have light snow overnight , heavier spell around 1PM tomorrow and the Netweather model moderate snow until around 7am tomorrow followed by some really bone chilling days.. Keep safe

Canterbury I would now describe a medium snow , moderate size flakes , moderate rate of fall, bin lid and shed roof covered. Grass now all white, struggling to lay on paths. Back garden snow is drifting down, front garden it is literally battering the windows with snow as it is North facing and looks like a blizzard. If this continues all day will be interesting.

Last post for me tonight , will expect to wake up to a snowy vista in the morning in Canterbury. Now 3.5C , temperature has dropped 0.6 C in last 30 minutes. So colder than the Meto prediction and a little cooler than the Netweather one, but certainly much closer. Makes me think that the snow may just start a little earlier than predicted, 1-2 Am rather than 2-3 if you intend to lamp post watch. Good luck keep safe..

Rain in Canterbury atm as expected , temperature a little lower than most of the forecasts had indicated for this time, down to 5C from an earlier high. Saw the forecast on the beeb ,predicting blizzards, and pretty much putting Canterbury at the centre of it all.. From past experience, when it really snows here it certainly can dump it down but can also be hit and miss.

The really impressive and dangerous part is the temperatures. 4 sub zero days in a row, don't think people are very use to that now. If people go out early gambling about in the snow, it wil compact and freeze into an ice rink especially if temperatures are a bit marginal for the first few hours. As a kid in the 70s we would wait until it had well settled until going out so that it would have a chance to lay, especially if we wanted to go sledging on Babs hill. However can't wait for that sound of muffled silence that you get on truely heavy snow days, we must watch out for the elderly and take care with your water pipes.. Think my heating will be staying on for a few days as last time the condenser pipe froze and then you have a potentially risky fix,,,

Well there is some "colder" weather in the outlook for around a week or so maybe starting Saturday , maybe Monday. Re the output and model thread. A very wise member of the forum always advise the following. 1) Don't compare 6z,12,18z etc with each other as they use different data sets( well 6/12 do and 18 and 0 do ) it is much better to look for a pattern from one 12z say to the previous day. Is the cold firming up , look less likely , does it show the same thing on 2 runs 24 hours, 48 hours apart etc. Then understand that irrespective , the runs tend to initially come up with a more extreme outpit in the long term, they then scale it back from either end with negative or positive feedback compare on what actually occurs. As for the trolling etc, that is just part of modern life sadly, a large number of people think their opinion is the only one that is right, and if your arguement has even the slightest fault you are annihilated, even if theirs is stuck together with pritstick. Any way let's look forward to something colder. -

Pretty much rained/sleeted /snow all night long, checked the garden this morning quite surprised to find a thin layer of snow, more so on the shed roof , but also on the grass, must have been pretty intense at time for that slushy mix to stick. -
