  1. http://www.chimet.co.uk/(S(lscrmvi0rivvix554mrtq5id))/Default.aspx 976 according to chimet. No rain now. Sounds gusty rather than sustained.
  2. On windswept peninsula on the south coast in a house made of a LOT of glass (seemed like good idea at the time!). Heaviest and most prolonged rainfall of the year I'd say. But it's the wind I'm dreading. Anyone got any idea what time should I expect the worst? Solent / IoW / Selsey Bill. Cheers.
  3. I know what you're saying about its location cyclonic. We too always take it with a pinch of salt. My point was that it isn't a false measurement, which seemed to be what people were implying, just an elevated one due to its exposed location. Anyhow, I'm really hoping this doesn't get too much worse. Not sure my nerves can stand it!
  4. Just heard bbc local weather confirm that Needles reading. We're opposite the island and I honestly wouldn't be surprised. Windiest it's been since last winter.
  5. Patio doors bowing. Very windy. And it's not due to reach its peak here until 1am. Hoping these doors hold and the scaffolding stays put! Gusting over 50knts. http://www.chimet.co.uk/(S(vsx4mk45hbr2rb22iymdkn45))/wind.aspx
  6. Never posted before. Apologies in advance for IMBYism. Any thoughts on what to expect down here on South coast? We live opposite the Isle of Wight, on a peninsula, in a pretty exposed location. Very bad memories of '87! We've got a lot of glass (it's a new house) and scaffolding up. Fascinated by storms, but actually a bit freaked out by this one. Is it downgrading? Intensifying? Max gusts on South Coast? How long will the severe gales last? Thanks in advance.
  7. Very intense thunder around 8pm here on Sussex coast - opposite IoW. Made the entire house actually shake twice, making toys fall over etc. Never known anything like it - even in the summer, let alone in Jan.
  8. Very violent squall went through here (Chichester Harbour) around 3 / 3.30. Gusts around 70mph. Hail, thunder, and series of strange bulbous shapes the like of which I've never seen before hanging off the bottom and end of the dark squall cloud. Wondering whether they were potential whirlwinds - we've had a few here in the past. Possible (new to this!)?
