I don't think that comparison is at all fair. Bungee jumping and sky diving is done under far more controlled conditions with risk assessments performed. I'd argue the chances of being killed by either of those are miniscule in comparison to going out in the sea in Force 11 winds and then expecting the emergency services to bail you out.

Seeking adrenaline is one thing. Being a pillock is another.

Well I do know somebody who got seriously injured from skydiving, that’s why I thought of it as an example, but yea, surfing in these conditions is asking for trouble, I agree.
remember a few years ago in a Torquay, there was a pretty bad storm coinciding with a high tide, the waves where crashing over the wall. Some kids, decided it was fun to play chicken with the waves, one got caught and just escaped, didn’t learn the lesson though and carried on.
some people are just a bit mad

Why would you surf in conditions like that?

And what was he thinking in his head too?

Why do people bungee jump or do sky diving? Some just like the rush.
Each to their own, not good when other  people have to put themselves at risk to rescue them though, perhaps he thought he was such a good / experienced surfer he could handle it.

guessing he won’t be doing it agin in a hurry though!!!

Not seeing anything to suggest any changes. The worst of the winds across southern Britain will likely be later this afternoon with a squall line expected to move through. Expecting sporadic 70-75mph gusts inland between 15:00 and 18:00.

Thank you Nick, certainly pretty wild out there, got football at 10:45 and I’m a goalkeeper, so that’ll be interesting to say the least.

Widespread obs of 60+ gusts even inland and we're well off the worst of it yet. UKV has moved significantly towards the EC wind gusts (i.e. increased them) this morning. The EC has widespread 70-75mph gusts this afternoon and even hinting at 80s even inland.

Has the storm moved north nick or is it on the same track as predicted yesterday please?

Yes my app says heavy all day and although it is moderate im right on south west edge of heavy ppn. if its moving west or south west its game on if not it shall stop soon.

Actually on a second look, it does look like the heavier stuff is moving this way, contradicts what the met snow symbols show though.

edit or maybe not, hard to tell, very much a now cast.

Hi all, I think over 10cm here, maybe getting on for 15cm.

One interesting thing about this particular snowfall is the snow is very light & fluffy, i remember the snowfall in mid-March cold spell last year (2nd beast from east), was similar. Not sure what causes this type of very fluffy snow.

Lack of moisture normally in the powder snow, the type we have had here today has not been powdery, but a lot more moisture in it, has not drifted at all, the stuff in March was blowing all, over the place.

edit just noticed you are talking about the second beast. Getting tired and the snow slowed down a bit, on that note bedtime. Goodnight all, thanks for all...

If we're doing a series it's about 6-1 to Essex based on the last few years of north of the M4/ thames events I.e. December 14months ago. Only times I can think of we smashed it was November December 2010 and Feb 09 since then it's been very poor here even during the Beast last year there was a day when all the snow streamers were going north of the Thames. I could literally see the snow showers lining up across the river!

Being a spurs supporter your probably quite used to dealing with that kind of deficit.

I was half expecting this event to be a huge disappointment but I have had a blast with how this event has unfolded.

At this point I have no idea what to expect but METO expect snow to midday on Friday.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere in this thread today so I Just wanted to say a big thank you to the net weather team for providing this great service.

Yea will echo that sentiment, been a great day
