  1. For me the overriding memory of this years weather was the coldest Spring in 50 years (especially late March waking up at a mates house in Huddersfield to huge snow drifts up the walls and everywhere else!).............and the long overdue nice hot July.
  2. Yep indeed, Presque Isle looking like recording -34c this week too once the sky clears at night. I just looked again at the cams above and the snow looks deeper still today
  3. Been another wet windy cold day here, the rain arrived later than expected but looks back edge has cleared through, and just had a glimpse of sun - I'll take what I can get
  4. I wouldn't go as far as "to almost everyone" if that was the case there wouldn't be a divided island of Ireland. Some people in the North even hate the words Northern Ireland, they like and prefer to use the word Ulster instead.
  5. To some people but the Unionists in Northern Ireland would firmly disagree with you on that one. And to some people "Ireland" means the whole island of Ireland. ROI on the other hand usually comes across as more well known, for instance they compete in most sports as the ROI and not "Ireland"
  6. No, you glanced at the map while posting it and thought it included the Republic of Ireland - you're words not mine dude lol
  7. Wow, well considering you got a Met Office (UK & Northern Ireland) map I guess that map is old then and not valid and Northern Ireland is now officially not part of Great Britain?
  8. Depends how much rain falls high up where the River Eden is sourced - it can be light rain in Carlisle but chucking it down upstream and this heavy rain water flows down to Carlisle.
  9. That's good - considering wet and cold is probably the least favourite weather type. Not heard many on here jumping up and down about the weather lately. Especially those flooded out for Christmas.
  10. This area must be one of the snowiest places in low lying USA at the moment, huge piles of snow building up and more to come over the next couple of days. http://www.crownofmaine.com/nmain/ http://www.crownofmaine.com/camsky.php
  11. I'm not sure what some people get out of windy wet weather, as a mildie it hasn't been an enjoyable spell of weather the last few weeks and yet more to come it would seem. The last 2 weeks have not been all that mild either, mostly single digit max temps.
  12. No real change in the 6z Manchester ens compared to yesterday - looking wet for the foreseeable, a miserable 7-14 days with temperatures near average.
  13. Urrggh last Winter/Spring went on and on - was freezing until May lol
  14. Zonal sums things up - wet with temperatures near average throughout.
  15. I think floods will be in the headlines again over the next 2 weeks. Looking very wet at times.
  16. For a fairly built up place for some reason we can do quite well for snow over on this side of Manchester..... but so far no lying snow this month, I don't think we had any last December although I think we did have falling snow, then we had a number of measurable falls from January onwards some were heavy. But strangely during the relatively mild Winter of 11-12 we had lying snow in the middle of December and then there was nothing until early February when we had a heavier amount fall. In my 28 years experience December has never really been a month for notable lying snow (bar 2009/2010 of course), Winter doesn't really get going here proper until January (synoptic permitting) due to the Atlantic being at it's strongest in December.
  17. Not been forecast but GFS hints at deep cold -10 uppers at the end of it's 12z run with a Scandi block setting up
  18. To be fair as long as the Met Office say no to any deep cold then it probably won't happen somethings got to give with the models, also they have more models to view and other data not available to the general public - having said that the Met Office have been wrong in the past and suddenly changed their medium term outlook. They are not infallible.
  19. Manchester 6z ens showing nothing notably cold, still looks zonal to me - a repeat of the last few weeks coming up I reckon. Rain wind rinse and repeat. Just average UK Winter weather so not surprising to me.
  20. Seems to be easing off a bit here now, good time to sneak off to sleep before the racket starts again!
  21. Feels eerie with the tree branches flapping and reflecting on the walls in here along with the whistling, like something from a Tim Burton movie.
  22. Breeze picking up here in the east of the region....not very windy yet but the trees are moving about now.
