  1. Middle of the afternoon there - Imagine if it was as cold as that here this Winter? I'm sure that windchill would blow the cobwebs away. Devils Lake, North Dakota (Airport) Updated: 14 min 31 sec ago -29 °C Overcast Windchill: -46 °C Wind: 37 km/h / 10.3 m/s from the WNW Wind Gust: 50 km/h / 13.9 m/s Pressure: 1028 hPa (Falling) Devils Lake webcam http://www.gondtc.com/webcam-main_street.html
  2. Poor old UK just too far west. Close but no cigar! Slightly milder air creeping back in, but it's only 1 run
  3. Just one or two reasons is the bitter air in the US effects the jet stream and gives power to the Atlantic - heard people yesterday saying "we will get all that cold in America we always do".........that is nonsense, all it does is give us somewhat chilly and wet weather.
  4. Back to square 1 for coldies. Mr Atlantic strikes back. But it is the GFS, usually the more progressive model.
  5. Mild uppers moving in for some of us as high pressure builds in Eastern Europe Turning cooler again as the milder uppers move away
  6. Interesting thing is I remember quite a few cold snowy Decembers (1992-1995-1996-2000-2001-2003-2008-2009-2010)
  7. Wow what a Winter some people are having , sea ice in the med too
  8. Will the universe really end? - we may never know, it is the most complex "thing" known to man. After all me - you - and everyone else are part of the universe. We are living breathing examples of it. We all came from the "big bang" and before that. Before the big bang I think there was a universe of sorts but not as big as now. Some people think the universe is getting smaller after it's expansion. Again something we may never know for sure. One thing is for certain in that "energy" does not "die". Put it this way - as humans and animals are a jigsaw in the universe we physically die but our energy/soul live on. Possibly why people who are near to death see loved ones? we perhaps go to a new dimensional area in the universe? I don't think we "reincarnate" into some other animal or get reborn. I am not scared of death, we cannot stop it from happening it is out of our hands, of course I would want to live as long as possible to experience things - I think death is just the beginning of a journey. The universe - a place where energy never dies, it's always been there. Enjoy your ride! http://www.nderf.org/
  9. I think it is absolutely possible for there to be life and technology outside our planet - it would be dumb and ignorant to think otherwise. For every grain of sand on our planet there is a solar system. It is indeed mind boggling just how big the Universe is. There has to be intelligent life out there. Even the Romans and Ancient Egyptians talked about "strange lights and movements in the sky" all those years ago...possible UFO's? in that case it wouldn't surprise me if other "lifeforms" are thousands of years ahead of us in technology. It must be possible and not impossible. We on Earth are just a speck of sand in the massive Universe. Completely irrelevant outside of our war torn selfish planet. There will come a stage when we will completely destroy our planet - Then we will have to move to another planet but we will destroy that too. Unfortunately as humans it is in our nature to destroy. I'm sure there's other "life forms" who are not like that, and who may have "visited" us. But yes I think "E.T" does exist and I'm pretty sure (not 100%) they have visited us many times in the past using their far ahead technological know how lol The computer hacker Gary McKinnon is convinced of things he seen on American secret files. He may be lying but I think he is telling the truth. Here's what he found
  10. Hmmmm.....that finger of uppers near Scandinavia. Today's earlier 12z
  11. Tuesday -10 uppers getting into the "panhandle" of Florida! bet that will be a shock to the system and the palm trees.
  12. GFS showing possible snow for the Pennines and Scottish Southern Uplands late Saturday into Sunday. Possibly the Lakes too.
  13. Europe turning colder is sometimes a good sign for coldies in this country.
  14. Very dangerous across the plains of North Dakota/Minnesota at the weekend, -35 uppers are extreme. Certainly life threatening if not dressed properly. This extreme cold spreads much further south and east into next week. To the point where -20 uppers are encroaching on Georgia! so far south.
  15. Just got to say what a Winter this is turning out to be for the US. -15 uppers down into Texas this time next week. Chicago -25 uppers!
  16. The really odd thing is lower ground has more frost than higher ground - many inland valley areas are bloody cold on clear calm mights. Of course higher ground is snowier/wetter due to "orographic lifting" and also higher ground has lower dew points which helps precipitation fall more as snow than rain. http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/reports/wxfacts/Frost-hollow.htm
  17. Probably somewhere like Skipton. But there could be other candidates further north and much further south.
  18. I remember that event - had a good couple of inches on this side of Manchester, relatives a few miles away had none at all.
  19. In parts of the USA it is had been cold enough to make boiling water freeze in mid air, he says "20 below zero" or -20f...........which is -28c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBASbXZhPOQ&feature=sharenoembed
  20. Not sure why people are dissing Feb to April for snow when statistically it's more likely to fall in February (most especially) and March than December, also this March a lot of places got absolutely hammered with feet upon feet of drifts - yet it was only a week off April. Seriously the sun in the UK is not strong in March we're too far north. The sun only starts to get strong in mid-late April in this country give or take how far north or south you live.
  21. Nope, but a couple days or so later all the country has an easterly or north easterly
  22. Actually Shed that chart does not show an easterly, it shows a northerly across some parts of the UK, Ireland a more SW tilt to the wind. But the following days the wind becomes more a NE, still it wasn't a lengthy cold spell until late January
  23. Well if there is one straw to clutch for coldies it is that Winter - which didn't properly get going until the 21st January. Today in 1946 Today
  24. Pretty much more of the same, wet wet wet. By this time half of meteorological Winter will be written off as unsettled. A real concern for floods by this point too.
