Jan, the amount of hard work and training that has to be done to keep yourself 'match fit' would probably astound you. Not easy by any stretch. Also, there's people in jobs who sit around all day pushing pens who are far less deserving of their wage IMO.

So average UK Winter temp is 3C for January, and the CET is 2.8C above average, even though it's currently 2.7C CET, thats 5.7C. That ain't mild or warm, or however you wish to define it. It's average, if not cool.

  4. I guess it's back to wind, rain and mud - how exciting, would like a drier spell now please.

Cheese- we don't often have summers like 2003! That's the point- an average winter will result in a lot more deaths of elderly people than an average summer will through heat. In the UK, particularly in the north, the 'heat' usually isn't enough to kill

    3. CongletonHeat

      these arguments are funny

    4. cheese

      cheese

That's my point Scorcher - if summers like 2003 happened more often, more heat-related deaths would occur.

  6. Hailstoning where did that come from?

  7. 2nd suicide bomb in as many days in Volgograd. At least 14 dead in latest blast. Volgograd famous as probably the turning point in WWII. Back then it were named Stalingrad.

Would be okay.. if it wasn't so dank and depressing. Winter at its worst - vile, boring, tedious. No wonder oceanic climates are the most hated amongst weather enthusiasts. Too warm for cold lovers, too cold for heat lovers, too cloudy for sun lovers and too cloudy even for cloud lovers - really the worst of the worst. I absolutely HATE oceanic climates.

    3. cheese

Good climate if you're a slug or moss, though. Plenty of moss growing on the pavements.

      Summer of 95

Everywhere else on the planet that has to suffer pre-4pm sunsets has frigid temperatures to match- why not us! It's getting really depressing now

Reality TV is Utterly mindnumbingly boring. Quality TV drama is probably at a high point in recent years, you just have to spend a little time find ing it because its not pumped down your throat the way reality TV is.

  11. This cold spell not looking as potent as 48 hours ago, it had Manchester struggling to get above freezing on Weds but now looks more like 6 or 7 with cold rain rather than sleet and snow.....bad cold spell??? more like a flash in the pan thankfully.

We are neither here nor there really. Nothing like 2010 but northing mild either. Just some cold dry and hopefully sunny conditions to look forward to after a dreary start to the week. The GFS 12Z is a lovely run for me at this time of year.

    4. UV-RAY

      UV-RAY

I prefer cold rain in summer but alas I have to make do with warm rain. The outlook is pretty good for anyone looking for frosty sunny weather from later on in the week.

  12. Just had the most violent hail storm ever, about an inch or so of hail settling on the ground, looks like it has snowed!

They couldn't care less about the weather on November 5th. They just like to make lots of noise in their lives, however it manifests. Fireworks that Joe Public can buy now are pretty pathetic though imho. Just lots of whistles and crackles. You can't see decent legal ones, unless you go to an organised display. You need a licence to buy properly noisy fireworks now.

I wish I could dump this months weather onto a bonfire never to be seen again.
