  1. I can just see the very top of some of the bolts from where I am in East Surrey. No noise or noticeable lightening of the sky, as you'd expect, but I'm reasonably hopeful of something nearby later. EDIT: I notice there is some considerable disruption to late-night train services in the Reading area, due to the effects of the storm.
  2. Joy. Just when I won't be in Surrey. At this range, I think these warnings will probably be fairly conservative, as is often the case. They do show they're taking the threat to actual, y'know, land (as opposed to just the Channel) quite seriously, though!
  3. Most disappointed with the utter lack of storms in East Surrey today. I can only hope for a surprise as night falls, but I can't see any real basis for that...
  4. I have just been very surprised indeed to hear at least one distant and under-enthusiastic low thundery roll from the mess over Kent. Indeed, the cloud seems to be converging and becoming slightly more organised over there. There's an overcast and somewhat stormy-looking sky to my East - to the West, there are numerous cloud formations and haze, none of which seem to be remotely towering, and also bright sunshine flooding through.
  5. Totally clouded over in Redhill - white cloud of varying densities from horizon to horizon. Some grey cloud to the West with light precipitation detected. Miserably humid! That, I guess, "is it" for at least an hour or two.
  6. Suddenly feeling very oppressive here in East Surrey. No idea if this is significant really, given the similar conditions yesterday resulting in pretty much nowt! However, the shade temperature has actually dropped from 28ºC to around 27ºC, whereas on previous days it has locally spiked around 1600. Wind is sliding SSW to SW and decreasing to around 3 or 4mph. Fluffy clouds and very hazy at a sort of imprecise "mid-way" altitude. I will be very pleased if the band of precipitation shown on NW Radar from Portsmouth to Brighton turns out to be of interest.
  7. Good afternoon all - another new poster here - I will try to behave myself! Here in the Redhill area, it's been a very boring day so far. There has been some thunder around 1100BST from the West (around Dorking/Guildford) but this was extremely faint and no precipitation or lighting was so much as visible from here. Something was heading this way, but it died - boo! I do have reports that the storm partially carried on over the Wimbledon area, so a couple of friends were lucky at work. The base of the cell was reasonably dark but it just looked like a miserable sort of grey sky from here. Last night was also disappointing. Many storms were around the South-East, as we all know, but the only thing of any significance seemed to be the odd spot of distant (but occasionally dramatic) lightning and a couple of more "convective" showers. It seemed the relatively dramatic slopes of the North Downs repelled anything building up too much, as some of the rain moved over Central London and put on a reasonable show. If I'm perfectly honest, I'm not massively hopeful for this afternoon/evening, but then again there have been some interesting formations over Kent which could be a sign of rather better things to come over here, and also a "troubled", gusty breeze. One or two artefacts on the radar, too. Estofex started out as rather uncertain, but seem to be more positive just now. We shall see if the haze becomes a happier storm-filled sky!
