  1. Thunder away to my east. First daytime storm we've had here all year. Nothing on the realtime lightning radar, weirdly.
  2. Big flash and a loud, shotgun like bang of thunder. Reckon it was only a few streets away from me and confirmed by blitzortung. Very excited as we've had b#gger all down here all year. Alas, it was only a solitary strike, at the end of a torrential downpour but proves there's potential around.
  3. Oooh, "snick" goes Lightning Maps and we have a sferic near Bath
  4. Got everything crossed for this one. I need to get out of the NSC!
  5. Well, the sun is out here in S.Devon. We've had a couple of pretty weedy sharp showers but nothing doing. It's not often I wished I still lived in Hampshire!
  6. Sferics getting really close to the IOW now. I'm super excited for you guys hanging out in East Dorset!
  7. So what's the gut feel today then? Are we on for the best day of the week/year so far? Or will it have to go some to top Monday's Welsh goodness?
  8. Cherbourg is really firing now. I think I'm going to be too far west to catch it though - is it headed for Dorset?
  9. My Lighting app has just started "pinging" again. Looks like a cell off the N.Cornwall coast is kicking off. This is a great app BTW. It's called Bliztortung Lightning Monitor (on Android). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.blitzortung.android.app
  10. Stormless in South Devon. We seem to sit in a kind of tunnel, where anything making its way over the channel seems to head 50 miles to the East or West of us.
  11. Looks like something starting up to the WSW of the Channel Islands.
  12. Looks as though Plymouth area is going to go off in the next hour or so.
  13. I've had half an eye on the radar and realtime lightning all afternoon. I can't beleive how long that Wales/Irish Sea monster has been going. And it's still on the rampage! Very exciting to see, even though I wished it was over me.
  14. Kicking off in Dorset now, around Bridport. Nothing but drizzle and the occasional heavy shower here in South Devon, but here's hoping for some late development.
  15. Pretty warm in the sun here; still a lot out high cloud cover. Looking at the radar, it looks like things are starting to kick off around the Solent. Is that a sqall line to the E of Plymouth too?
  16. That looks tantalisingly, but annoyingly west of me. Was up on Dartmoor yesterday arvo to catch a high view of the cloud formations. Alas, lots of rain showers & wind, but nothing exciting. We'll see what happens this afternoon.
  17. Very windy, and seemingly increasing in strength with some very strong gusts here in South Devon. Froward Point recorded max gust of 73.9 kts earlier http://www.nci-frowardpoint.org.uk/weather.htm, that's 85 mph. Not quite as strong as Weds yet, but knocking on the door methinks. They're measuring sustained wind of 60 mph at the moment.
  18. Froward Point nr Dartmouth - 81.7 kts measured today - that's 94 mph! http://www.nci-frowardpoint.org.uk/weather.htm
  19. Re: strengthening winds. All the forecasts for my area suggest the wind weakening as we go through the afternoon. Granted, there will still be gusts but I'm a bit confused as to what's going to happen this afternoon. Anyhow, I just had to relight my pilot light which just blew out and we have a tree down in the fields behind my house:
  20. I agree with Twistergirl; we seem to have survived the worst of it down here in Devon. Inland, at least. Sky is brightening up now the main rain band has passed. There was about a minute of absolute carnage on the back edge of the rain band - I thought the roof was for it! Certainly the heaviest wind/rain I've seen here since before Christmas. House is leaking like a sieve!
