  1. April temperature records were broken in many locations in Spain and France this weekend. Cooler air is on the way with a wet and wild Monday morning in the Midlands. Read more here
  2. Reports of damage in Leek, Knutton near Stoke OT and West Bridgford as the band of heavy, thundery rain passed by this morning. My parents have refused to go out to take photos for me as "it's cold and raining" in WB, Notts.

  8. It's still Easter Holidays for some, the end of the school hols for others, so people travelling or wanting to get out and do stuff.   12. The UK climate demands a lot of our road surfaces: it becomes increasingly hot in summer and floods in winter. Even without a hard cold winter, the rain has added to pothole problems. Read more here
  13. No, but I work from home, so have more flexibility. The campaign was about letting people know it was possible, not to write off all the winter months and forget about drying outside. It won't fit everyone but it is still an open topic for discussion.

This weekend looks wet and windy for Spain frmo the NW due to the same low that affects the UK but there seems to be some improvement next week, at least initially
  18. It's a very generational thing. I was excited to see the Aurora but also the snow, mountains, wildlife, scenery and Tromso ,even how the snow was cleared in a different country. One of my teens said "so you did see the Aurora, you can tick that off?" At the airport, there were definitely some folk who had bought a showy Arctic outfit with fur edging and were all about getting the pose of themselves in front of the Aurora. Which is fine and may enliven the shared aurora pics but what happens when the lights don't show that evening? Big disappointment? I was enchanted by life in the Arctic, I've read and watched as much as I can access since returning. I'd looked at the railway journeys, didn't fit with my trip but your photos look wonderful @TillyS

  21. By Friday morning, the low centre of Louis had moved towards the Alps and a new centre deepened across the NOrth Sea and was named ROLF by the Danish Met, with amber warnings for wind. Red rain warning for northern Italy from remnants of Louis, with snow, wind and other rain warnings. Wind warnings for southern Scandinavia too from ROLF
  22. Storm ROLF for Denmark (Northern naming group) which developed across the North Sea overnight, as Storm Louis (Southwestern naming group) hit France and the Netherlands yesterday. (Red warning for rain in northern Italy for that today) 'Storm Rolf hits the west coast of Jutland Storm Rolf lies over the north-eastern part of the North Sea and continues north-eastwards at high speed towards Oslo.'   23. The French called Thursday's low Louis, which the Netherlands acknowledged when they had orange warnings. That low centre looks to have headed to the Alps but another low developed across the North Sea and we have ROLF for Denmark . Storm Rolf, part of the Northern naming group
