This one post is a great example of what the charts have been like for a good while now. What a difference!
It’s almost like… we can’t predict the future

Today must be a candidate for one of the worst high summer days ever.

Louise Lear BBC weather this morning at 10.40am on Test Match Special advising plenty of play with just the chance of an 'isolated' shower......as the rain lashes down for an hour and a half at least. What chance have you got predicting 2 weeks ahead when they haven't got a clue what will happen in the next 3 hours !
Exactly. It makes me laugh to see the effort made to read computer models of 10 days time. We can’t even predict if it will rain in 3 hours!

Looks like it. The weekend can't come quick enough. Lose the northerly chill. We are in business!
Calling it now, won’t happen.

The point is, we can never accurately predict the weather beyond about 7 days.
You mean 7 hours, and even that is a stretch at times.

I’m calling it now: it isn’t going to burn off until sunset today and probably also tomorrow. This country is cursed.
So it didn’t burn off at all.
Worst Spring in my lifetime.

Firmly on track. “Forecasts” now saying sun by 6pm. I hate this country!

It’s not even cloud, it’s “infill”. Does any other country/climate have a specific term for this overcast blanket of thick cloud? I don’t think people from better climates even recognise it as cloud, which to them are white and fluffy or wispy. That’s depressing by itself.

Let's hope this cloud burns off and we can all enjoy a warm weekend. Good news for early next week is that it doesn't appear to be that wet, so there should be some fine weather at times, though not overly warm of course.

It's grim this morning, a hangover from yesterday's dross. Dark, cool and gloomy. You wouldn't think it's nearly the longest days of the year. Imagine getting a proper sunrise? Must be great.
Funny thing is...I can usually hear so much birdsong in the garden by this time of year of a morning. This year? Little to none.
Yep. Genuinely feels like a nuclear winter! And I don’t want to hear any more about people being “comfortable” or “productivity”. It’s not a matter of opinion. This weather IS terrible for our health and wellbeing. Fact!

The lack of consistency in temps is a pain. There's no 'usual weather' - it just "is what it is". 11c and thick overcast in May? Sure. 22c and not a wisp of cloud to be seen in May? Also yes.
I’ve always described it as, the UK is the dumping ground for other people’s unwanted weather. My wife is Italian and cannot fathom it. There, like many places they have “their own” weather e.g. they are near established high pressure cells which provide regular and consistent conditions. A protective dome that shuts out the LP filth.
Basically the UK is in a cursed position so doesn’t have that. We are exposed, the dumping ground for other people’s unwanted LP weather systems. We don’t have our own weather at all and I absolutely HATE it.

5 days from May and had my heating on low all night. 9 am and 6 degrees. Simply atrocious.

Heating has gone back on here in London. My word, I hate this country sometimes.

Snow and ice have finally thawed after one entire week on the ground. Heating went off last night for the first time in 10 days. Able to open up and air the house. Cellar is useable. Bliss!

Depression in the model thread, but here in the real world, I’ve had the boiler on for 2 weeks solid, my entire road is still an ice rink after 5 days, bins still haven’t been collected and I’m tired of just being cold.
A two week cold spell is quite exceptional and more than sufficient, if you want more then move to Scandinavia.

Got to admit, still in t shirt and shorts, windows open, bedroom fans on....no idea why folk think I'm weird
Genuine question. Are you overweight? Speaking from experience when I’ve been heavier the difference in perceived temperature is very noticeable

Today is everything that’s crap about the UK climate, grey as far as the eye can see, no sun, no wind, not cold yet still too cold to stay out in light clothing, but at the same time too warm to wear a coat and wrap up for long walks without sweating. Just interminable featureless middling depressing dross. Little wonder we’re a nation of alcoholics.

Like a nuclear winter out there today.

The “five day forecast” changes every day, making it a one day forecast.

Hardly a troll. Yes I'm a weather enthusiast but I'm also someone who has to use public transport and pay heating bills. I can't speak for everyone but certainly is my daily life, given the things I've mentioned most people are very pleased to have a mild winter.Doesn't mean we don't like cold weather but you can't argue that there are many benefits to a mild winter.Don't feed the troll.

Absolutely loving this mild Winter, as are most people I know. Minimum of transport disruption, not needing to use much heating - much, much needed in these financially straightened times - and not needing to use Winter coats.
Easier to be outside, easier to travel, safer and cheaper.
next up... Roll on Spring :-)

Edited my post for clarity - I simply mean the sound/feeling if the gusts at their peak.

Agreed. I feel we are getting a reward for such a cold and grim first half of the year. Loving the weather at the moment, not hot or cold, no heavy clothing needed, not too wet, no central heating bills. Can leave the house without too much planning. Perfectly usable and able to function.
