Nice update gone live on the V8 radar today - there's now a 'Nowcast' option in the display settings menu, which will automatically update the radar to 'now' every 5 minutes, using the 500m predictive radar. Also, this winter, we introduced a major upgrade to our precipitation type. Upgrading it to 500m resolution, adding a new height mapping to the same resolution and updating a number of the algorithms. including better precipitation rate feedback to take evaporative cooling into account. We're going to be making the change to the login system on Wednesday. So, from that point on you'll need to use your email address to login rather than having the option to also use your display name.

We'll be going ahead with this change at the end of the month. So, please make sure you've updated your email address if it needs to be - and that's particularly in the case of those who see warnings such as these at the top of the page: It's possible to use your email address to login in the meantime as well, so it may be worth doing that to ensure your password continues to work etc, while it's still possible to login the old way.

Vortex3929 As it stands, the fix is the change to the default themes. I think ultimately, with a new, totally updated version of the software due this year, it's likely that'll bring a new theme with it, so we'll probably stick with what we have for now, as it works.

Just for the avoidance of doubt, this thread was started by the team, splitting out posts which had been made in the model thread, which would have taken it way off topic. Obviously as a 'post mortem' it's somewhat premature, but since there's obviously some appetite to discuss this now, it's better to have a thread then have those discussions spread about elsewhere. The purpose of it is not to have it turn into a name calling session or some sort of blame game. The aim is for it to be a place for some reasoned discussion on this winter, along with the forecasts, models and teleconnections during the season, so we can hopefully learn more about them and understand where, how and why things have gone both right and wrong with them all. There's already been at least some of that, so hopefully that theme can continue and we can have a constructive, useful debate.

Morning, due to some issues with the existing default and dark themes affecting some mobile devices (more info in this thread), I've changed the default theme to a different one. If you'd like to continue to use the original default theme, it is still available from the theme menu, which can be found at the bottom of every page. There is also a new dark theme available (netwx 24 dark) as an option for those who prefer a darker background. Please let me know if you have any problems with these new themes, as they have been put together relatively quickly due to the issue with the old one. Also, if you've been affected by the problem described in the other thread, please can you post in there to let us know.

sheikhy You can change the theme by clicking on the 'theme' link at the bottom of every page. That said though, I've changed the default to a new theme which should solve it for you - let me know how you get on

It's back on now, we switched it off overnight to test something.

I'm not sure how many people the issue with the existing default (and dark) theme is affecting, but it's obviously not ideal. So, I think we're probably going to change the default theme to one based off of the simple theme this weekend, just to be safe. I'm just working on it now, and with a bit of luck may have a dark theme to go with it as well. Meantime, the simple theme is the safe bet.

@Vortex3929 & @Bricriu Please can you test it again now, I've reverted a change we made earlier this week, just to see if it may be the cause.

@sheikhy @northwestsnow @Sweatyman Please report your issues in this thread. For a fix, choosing the simple theme should resolve it while we try to understand the cause. If you can remember when the issue started for you (even roughly), that could potentially be very helpful.
