  1. Hi Coast. It's not looking good for our area from the charts you kindly posted is it? Just checked the environment agency and there are flood alerts all along our stretch of the coastline. They have removed the flood alert for the River Uck, but not sure how long that will last if we get the predicted rainfall as it looks horrendous.
  2. Morning everyone. A really heavy squally shower just passed through here! Wind was really gusting and rain torrential. Feel sorry for those in south west as they are getting hit really badly this morning if BBC is anything to go by. Stay safe today everyone. The seaside is not the place to be today!
  3. Just like to say thank you to Coast and John for keeping us all well informed about current and projected conditions. It is so helpful to all in our region. Looks like we may have an eventful couple of days watching the water levels.
  4. Yes Coast. I remember that well. My youngest son was 3 years old and I can remember having to try and explain to him that no, we hadn't moved to the sea side overnight! That was a truly weird experience seeing that boat on the High Street. Near my end of Uckfield which is near the river by the old Hempstead Mill House, the level of the river rose some 20+ feet and flowed over the road. That was truly scary!
  5. Well, the rain from Hailsham had arrived! The sky is so dark too! I am beginning to feel that I might just ad well leave the lights on all day!!
  6. Hi Sussex Jules, Same shower passed over Uckfield about 10 minutes ago! Very bizarre, blue skies appeared and now huge grey clouds building! I would think some of the residents of Uckfield will be having a worrying few days with what is forecast at the moment.
  7. Good morning all. It's those rarest of things - a morning without rain and wind! I know it won't last, but it's nice all the same. Very still here at the moment, and the temp is currently 5.4.
  8. It is lashing down here at the moment. Just keeping fingers crossed that we don't loose the tv signal during Sherlock - just at the point when he tells how he did it!
  9. Good morning and a Happy New Year to everyone! I hope 2014 is a good year for us all. Sons both returning from their respective nights out, so suspect I will be cooking restorative bacon sandwiches soon. Here the heavy rain has set in and it's quite gusty! I think flooding may be an issue soon. Enjoy your first day of 2014.
  10. Congratulations CK on the birth of your granddaughter - it's nice to hear some good news on a horrible day like today. It's really wet and very windy here. Fields across from me continued to be flooded and suspect many roads will be too by the end of the day. It is very dark as well.
  11. Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you all have a good day today whatever you are doing, and the weather doesn't spoil your enjoyment of the day. Sons currently opening presents and cats enjoying the wrapping paper!
  12. Hope every one is having a better Christmas Eve than last night!Decided the only way to get through all I have to do today with only 2 hours sleep is to resort to alcohol! Just got some peppermint bark to make and I am done until our Christmas Eve buffet! Time to put my feet up with a glass of chilled white I think. Can't believe we are still having showers- some heavy ! It's a bit gusty here at the moment and the temperature is 8.1, Have a great Christmas Eve everybody.
  13. Morning everyone. Hope you all managed to get through the night relatively unscathed. That was a horrible experience - don't want to repeat that in a hurry, so hope that the next bout on Friday is not as bad. We lost power for a couple of hours but it came back on around 5.30. There are numerous roads closed in our area due to flooding and/or fallen trees. Have just spoken to my parents in East a Grinstead and they seem to have been suffered quite badly with road closures. Have heard that the A22 is closed both ways due to fallen trees, so if you are heading in that direction, you may have delays. Our town flood defences held thankfully, although some homes have flooded gardens and the fields near me are like a lake. The wind has died down, but it is still raining. I suspect that the extend of the damage will become more evident as it gets lighter. Take care if you have to travel today.
  14. Things still bad here. Just seen on my local news that homeowners in low lying parts of the town are out trying to protect their homes from the rising levels in the river Uck. Gardens already flooded and the local nature reserve is under 2 feet of water. That was at 2.45am and it's still raining! With the run off from the fields further upstream still to filter through, the bottom of the town could be flooded by the morning. This is really horrible now. I am hoping that it will start to calm down soon. The gusts of wind are horrendous.
  15. Still awake here. If anything, the wind seems to have picked up again in the last half hour. The roaring sound is exactly like I remember from 87. Youngest son and I sleeping downstairs as our rooms at back of house nearest the trees. We are joined by 3 very frightened cats who are not leaving our sides. I hate to think what it is going to be like outside when daylight comes. Just keeping my fingers crossed that the house makes it through the night. Keep safe everyone.
  16. It's been really howling here for the last few hours. The gusts are rattling the house and sound horrible. My son got in from work and said that emergency response vehicles were out in force. I think there was a minor land slide on the road to Halland. Just spoken to my parents who live in East a Grinstead and loads of roads are shut due to fallen trees. They have been without power iron the last half hour. Dad said at their age (83) it was a bit late to be having candlelit dinners! What is really worrying me is we haven't seen the worst of it yet. I am praying that the large fir trees at the back of the garden don't come down on the house. Stay safe everyone.
  17. Good morning. It's grey and breezy here at the moment and the pressure reading is 1016.1 and the temperature is 9.2 according to my weather station. It's quite eerie as to look out there you would not realise how horrible it is going to be. My food shop is due to be delivered after lunch - hope it makes it, or it will be ham sandwiches for Christmas lunch. Hope everyone that has to go out today takes care, and that we all come through this storm in one piece. Stay safe all.
  18. Thank you Coast for the update. It looks pretty awful. Am taking your advice and moving things to sheltered spots in the garden as much as I can. I think we will all be on here checking the latest updates as this storm develops. We will have to keep our fingers crossed that the damage is not too great.
  19. Would like to say "Good" morning all, but not sure that there is anything good about it at all! Have had heavy, squally showers here since early this morning, and the river Uck near where I live has already flooded the fields. It's strange to look between the houses opposite me and see seagulls swimming in the fields! So with the dreadful forecast for the next 48+ hours! it is not looking too good. I am not holding out hope for outside decorations staying up with the strength of the winds forecast. Last night one gust knocked over the small christmas tree that I had by the front door so that is now inside. If you are out on the roads over the next few days, take care.
  20. Evening all. It is raining really heavily here and very squally too! House is rattling and not sure how the Christmas lights will stand up to the wind! My weather station is saying it's still 9 out there, which seems warm! Looks like we are in for a noisy evening.
  21. Good morning everyone. I am glad someone else has noticed the birds singing Coast! I came down this morning and thought I was hearing things! Nature seems to be confused at the moment. It's quite balmy here 8.1 at the moment and felt mild when I let the dog out first thing. Is still too dark to see what is going on out there at the moment, but does not look foggy like yesterday. Off to do some crimble shopping today, suspect I will need a large drink by the end of the day!
  22. Good morning everyone. A tad fresh this morning 0.8 here at the moment and it is foggy here too. Looks like it is going to be an interesting journey to work if you are driving this morning. Take care all.
  23. Good morning everyone. A chilly -4.8 and frosty here . Just seen the beeb weather - does not look good if you are on the East coast of our area. Take care everyone on the coast hope you keep safe.
  24. Hi all, Grey, grey, grey here in my part of Sussex today! We too had a spot of the "mizzle" during the morning. Decided to go mad and put on all the Christmas lights at once to brighten things up. Think I have given myself photosensitive epilepsy now as they are all blinking in sequence! Still, at least it's a different colour to grey! Have forgotten what the sun looks like this week.
  25. I am so sorry to hear that BJ. Our pets form so much of our family lives and become part of who we are as a family. I know mine do and I feel so sad for you. Pepper was lucky to have such a loving family. Kind thoughts to you and all your family at this time.
