  1. That’s madness for Mount Batten. No wonder I barely slept.
  2. The hottest I remember in Devon was August 1990 but today has smashed that. Then we got to 30c in Plymouth but Mount Batten was already at 33c an hour ago.
  3. It’s got to be the hottest day on record here now. 33c at Mount Batten but down in Plymstock it’s 34.1c at my parents.
  4. Plymouth Mount Batten up to 30.8c Thats the August 1990 personal record gone and it’s not 1pm yet!
  5. Incredibly 24c here but it’s very hazy! However it’s burning off - and watch the temperature rocket.
  6. What’s even more interesting that when it breaks by Wednesday the London temps are still programmed to be equal or only 1 degree lower than today. 27c today, 26c on Wednesday. But the nighttime is going to be worst for that red alert area- temps not dropping below 25? Even in Zakynthos in June and July it goes lower than that.
  7. Quick - head to Looe or Polperro Monday and Tuesday
  8. It’s fair to say in my industry we’re planning already. Even Officer Waller like myself is clearing work through today and taken Monday off- on street gangs won’t be doing too much bar keeping the roads safe. There’s been links to the extreme weather policy sent out - although I think they planned those for snow! But the principals are the same
  9. I don’t care- hottest in Devon was in August 1990 and that was a low 30s. I think Plymouth all time heat record could go- with sea breezes I think that’s only around 29/30. I’ve booked leave on Monday. There ain’t no way I’m looking at a computer in my spare room for work in this programmed heat.
  10. I love the heat in Greece but when you have elderly parents, one with a lung condition and they are struggling to breathe today- let alone next week- I’ve bitten the bullet and ordered a mobile air conditioning unit for them. It may not be much good but better than nothing.
  11. No. The hottest I’ve been through was early August 1990 and we got to low 30s in Devon/Dartmoor and that was bad enough. But these figures here of 36- 38c are unthinkable. That’s as hot as I’ve been in Greece and that was flipping unbearable.
  12. With regards to the GFS- let’s see the ensembles to see where it sits. Given the output I’d say it’s gone the other way to the bottom to show the extreme.
  13. Getting up for work at 430am it’s been lovely to have nearly 2 hours solid sunlight/ daylight before work but by the end of this month here we’ll be heading back towards 6am sunrise. It’s the mornings we loose quickly first here. If this planned heatwave comes off that’ll help offset the loss!
  14. I know the summer of 1995 is up there with 1976 for being an great summer but the thunderstorms of 95 have mostly been forgotten- especially the ones around 10th July which I maintain to this day led in part to my late Aunt having a heart attack and sadly passing. Never known a storm like it in Plymouth that Tuesday/Wednesday night and it just rumbled for hours. The summer 2005 was interesting as I was on holiday in my then caravan just outside Rippenden West Yorks in late July(?) and trust me I’ve never been so flipping scared as storms came up from Manchester. Swear the trees nearby got hit. Then we drove home to Glossop and boom the town was hit again and had some mild flooding.
  15. As a summer SAD sufferer and having had to take anti depression meds for years to get through- this summer so far hasn’t been too bad for me. It could be as I had a depression episode back in April that I’m going to avoid the worst this year. Equally I’ve changed jobs and that could have helped as well.
  16. Just seen this on Matt Hugo Twitter. Are we back at ENSO neutral as BOM are claiming?
  17. It’s very black towards the South Hams as those showers from the channel head in
  18. Tonight is the Toolstation Western League dinner at Crowne Plaza on Plymouth Hoe. As a football secretary for Saltash United, if it goes bang in Plymouth this evening I’ll be in the function room on level 12 at the top right on Plymouth Hoe overlooking the sound and City Centre. Talk about lucky!
  19. The W QBO is really on the match down into the stratosphere. No doubt winter will be WQBO and probably a mature one at that.
  20. That’s surprising. I expect that’s the peak over for this EQBO then?
  21. Blimey the WQBO has descended at quite the rate of knots the past few days. Be interesting to know the figure for April- I suspect perhaps still a strong minus but not as much as March.
  22. All I know is 2013 was personally the worst year of my life to date. My then civil partnership collapsed on Wed 13th March and I remember walking across Plymouth Hoe in bits with it sleeting and snowing. The next few weeks were a blur, but I remember spring being ridiculously late with trees not coming into leaf until early May or even mid May. I just remember not having a car, walking everywhere and one day seeing the trees suddenly green! Summer was pretty good if not busy with divorce lawyers and I had a good holiday in West Cornwall first week of September walking the cliffs etc . After that the weather broke and I remember November and December being ridiculously wet here which led on to the stormy winter. Still, not a year I’d EVER wish to repeat - even if it led to a new life and greater happiness!
  23. I was living in Glossop at the time and remember ringing my Mum in the afternoon to hear about Boscastle whilst shopping in Morrisons Hyde. Remember we had steak for dinner and watched in horror the national news and Spotlight on Sky rather than North West Tonight. Daft I remember what we had for dinner! Came home for Christmas and missed the snow- but it was white driving home from Plymouth I do recall.
