  1. As someone who is reliant on gas bottles for heat and with a 12% price increase this winter compared to last year, I for 1 am glad of warmer winter, I’m currently on my 4th bottle since 29 October, whereas last winter I was was on bottle 7 by this point and ended up having 10 (3 bottles in March!). Hopefully it’ll be 1 more in March so I’ll have saved £205 on this years price compared to last winter. My electric bill is also much lower this winter. Whilst I love snow and cold as much as the rest, the real rampers clearly don’t live in the real world where even I have to factor in heat v food like I did last winter.
  2. Even in surburban Plymstock, as my parents lived on a hill it’s only happened 3 times in my life to my knowledge and that’s In December 1978, January 1986 and February 1985. February 85 was the big one - no cars came up the road for nearly a week and as a result the road got a grit bin from the council hence why I think it’s not happened since majorly since- bar that pasting in Jan 86
  3. It’s starting to sleet here in Plymouth- this could spring a surprise I think!
  4. Currently in Tunisia and I’ve had the sunrise at just after 7am local time and sunset towards 6pm. It’s very much noticeable the difference that near extra hour makes to a day when compared to the UK. Shame we’ve had Northerlies or NW winds for 5 out the 6 days so far, only yesterday was it warm and comfortable for shorts and flip flops!
  5. As I have to travel to Gatwick overnight on Wednesday 23rd as I’m off to Tunisia on holiday, can we get to at least 6am without snow please that day? I have a feeling it’s going to be an interesting drive.....

The onset of the severe wintry spell of Jan.1987

It was also bad here, my Nan was alive in and living in Newton Ferrers but she was cut off for several days, as the amount of snow caught Devon County Council out. You couldn’t get a gritter or snowplough out between Yealmpton and Newton. The back road was closed for about 10 days. Utterly magical the snow drifts It was also grim in Plymouth, we had days with no school and we kids in my road had a blast, using a long piece of kitchen countertop as a sledge as I lived on a hill! There were snow drifts up on Dartmoor until April as I recall!
  7. I’m guessing that was a squal line at 4am. Woke me up it was raining that hard 🙂
  8. It’s only 5 minutes here, but mornings we’ll loose another 25 minutes (748am this morning out to 8:14 by shortest day) We continue to eek out till Boxing Day at 8:16am - but we’ll start to improve both ends from 2nd January
  9. Couple of rumbles of thunder from a cell which is over Plympton/Ivybridge way. Nice start to a Monday
  10. It’s a been a good Autumn, whilst the portable gas fire has been on most evenings and for an hour before work, since the 30th and pay day it’s not been on more than 1 bar out of possible 3. Given the gas bottle price has jumped up to £40 a time this pleases me greatly but I know come Deep midwinter it’ll be a bottle every 4 weeks compared to every 6/7 as it is at the moment!
  11. It’s evil outside and has been since 1530hrs across Plymouth. Took an hr to get home 2 miles! Traffic is solid on A38 from Marsh Mills to Tamar Bridge. All main roads across City are gridlocked. Thank goodness for Lamb Hotpot in the slow cooker 🙂🙂

    9th November Possible Storm

It’s evil here in Plymouth. Roads gridlocked (75 mins from Marsh Mills to Tamar Bridge), flooding everywhere and we’ve been pulled off streets for safety. Normal 15 mins drive home took an hour. And not a very safe one at that 😞

7th of July 2007 at 1015am Plymouth Registry Office for my Civil Partnership. Wasn’t a bad Saturday by any of the others from summer 2007. It was Sunny all day about 19c so the photos looked pretty good. Threw it down most of the honeymoon in Sway Hampshire. The last day Wednesday 13th March 2013 was a cold wet day, and with sleet across Plymouth Hoe at 9pm. Well that’s all I can remember from that dreadful day. We’ll have to see if it happens again, but being single for 5 years I’d not put money on it 🙂
  14. Is this a very slow squall line? It’s been amazing the rain levels and thunder and lightning for Halloween! We’ve been so lucky here tonight but driving home from work was tricky with the local flooding!
  15. More lightening towards Plymstock- and the rain.....
  16. And a nice one it was too. Some impressive lightning towards Devonport and Torpoint. All very unexpected for Halloween. Mind you we had a shower with biblical levels of rain around 7pm as well.
