Constant lightning flashes, every second, but is well out to the East from here and heading NE Bone dry and still at 23c which is incredible . May stay up, but looks like nothing much more for this area. Looking good into Wilts & Gloucester.

Lightning to the SSE of me and deep rumbles of thunder plus a gusty warm wind sprung up now! Amazingly still 23c here. Interesting night ahead hopefully!

Heavy falling snow over the Blackdown hills on the Devon/Somerset border this morning and it was starting to settle on the fields. OK not in my area, but still nice to see and it's now spring!

Snow here!!!! OK, I'm cheating because I'm in Norway, at Oslo airport and was in Finland Tuesday & Wednesday!! Apparently its been 4c above the monthly average, so no wonder everyone says its too warm.. I bought a skiing type jacket, but I've been sweating like hell, even though there is snow on the ground!!! I don't believe it, I'm on my way to Helsinki and the forecast is for rain and 2 Or 3c!! I thought that being that far north and east, snow and freezing would be guaranteed Talking to my Finnish friends,they have had a milder winter this year, must have known I was coming - BL**dy typical! Aaaaargggh....

Seen some snow today!!.....OK I was in Copenhagen; light snow falling, but for a few days this week got a total snow-fix in Sweden, must have been 80-90% snow cover in Stockholm, with huge piles of snow in carparks and any spare land. Talking with locals, the last real snowfall was 3 weeks ago and with temps above freezing for many days, the snow thaws really slowly! Cold ground I guess and they keep their Christmas lights going, so very festive! If only the UK was that much further north and east..........

Hard frost here - unexpected, with the cloud to start last night! Crystal clear blue skies this morning, still at -1c. No doubt will cloud over with the warming of the land.

driven through falling snow eastbound (from Devon) into Somerset - over the high point of the Black downs along the A303! car temp showing as 1.5c that was at approx 5:30pm, so with colder air coming from the east - could be interesting!

Can't believe how far this feature has travelled from the east coast! I'm in mid Somerset, about 10 miles north of Yeovil - can I dare to hope that it'll make it here, just a dusting will do - don't want much ma' luvs. Good luck tyo those in cider country & elsewhere

Frosty here by 6:30pm this evening; coldest night for about 4 days - typical, now there's no sign of any precipitation!!

Lived in Plymouth all my life until 2010 and for years been sledging up there, as advised by Beast etc, apart from the roads being dodgy and blocked with cars, Princetown area will be full of people, but if you go on the northern side towards Postbridge or even just outside Princetown, near Two Bridges it should be less manic!! As someone has suggested; The Road (A386)south bound from the A30 towards Tavistock has many good places with higher Tors - that are accessible - Sourton being one, but a number of spots are along that route. Jealous - HAVE FUN, looks like there will be a good snow covering up there!!

Snowing here in Charlton Adam - quite heavily, wey heyyyyy!!! Some interesting echoes on the radar, incoming to many areas - especially as the temp drops

Heavy sleet here at the moment - Temp down to 2.1c, no DP reading - but wouldn't take much for snow! looks like a bit of mini-streamer setting up with a line of showers appearing in the Celtic sea and heading across somerset Glastonbury, and on towards Frome, then Warminster - may not get too much further. Maybe our night in Somerset, who knows - may have to set the alarm for 3am!!

Yes, Dec 2010, streamer from the Bristol Channel, snow shower after shower all aftrnoon (19th Dec I think) down across Somerset and towards Yeovil. We had about 10 inches+ and only a few miles away either side of vour village was about only 2 or 3 inches. Anyway a lot of negativity and depression (this isn't the MOD thread is it?) in here and we're still over 24 hours away from the start of any cold!!

Clearish skies here - water on the car roof frozen solid, but the wind has really come up. Can see distant lightning to the South, towards Poole I guess. Let's hope something we all want really gets going in the early hours; curtains at the ready!!!

Snowing, fairly light, but some larger flakes mixed in! Looks like we're just too far south (I'm 3 miles east of Somerton) from a cloudy area. Feels much colder now- temp dropped to just 1.6c Let's hope we see some big showers in the early hours - first snow here for 2 years, so nice to see it again!! Good luck all!!

Minimum of -3.6c, around 4am, but temps have been rising since & the frost that's been around for 3 days has all but thawed, apart from odd patches in sheltered areas, looks like the Atlantic is on its way!

-3.2c here now, lowest at 6am down to -6.1c, so not as cold as last night by 1c Because of the fog, everything is coated in frost - so looks incredible this morning and feels colder, with no sun this morning. Will see if I can attach any pics....cheers all!

-4.7c now, falling about 0.7c per hour, but it's also really foggy (freezing), so more in the way of ice deposits on trees, extra moisture may slow down the temp reduction, so who knows, maybe or maybe not. be lower than the -6.9c last night! Mulls/Nights K - what's your current temp?

Got down to -6.9c last night (coldest for 3 years) & struggled up to 3.2c this afternoon. Already at -2c, (2c lower than same time yesterday) and there is already a lot of frost that didn't thaw, so should get down to -8c tonight maybe? The competition is on!!

Coldest night since Jan 2011 at -6c ; could maybe get to -8, if it stays totally clear for the rest of the night! Pity this proper seasonal stuff isn't going to last - milder again by Weds!

Beautiful cold/crisp morning, but expected a colder night; down to - 1c and now up to 3c. Tonight, under clear skies and light winds, expecting maybe -4/5c out yer in the countryside!! Still feeling jealous of our northern colleagues with all that snow cover!!

I only watch this thread from a far, due to some of the tone of the posters in here, but the comments suggesting that ECMWF somehow makes it up as it goes along is unbelievable. EC has the most powerful supercomputer, (-and will do for some time until the Met Offices new HPC is installed), best-performing medium-range model by far and it provides this for 34 European contributing Member States, who pay £millions to receive the outputs. Sorry, had to say this -appreciate that some are feeling frustrated with the search for cold, but the sentiments expressed needed a response.........I feel better now!
