  1. Lovely to pop in here and see a bit of humour - as one of a nervous disposition not looking forward to tonight - going to shut the curtains and turn the tv volume up loud so I don't hear all noises - Times like this I wish I drank - hitting the old fashioned lemonade but can't stay its helping
  2. Mine is some kind of pine - quite a thick trunk - have to say that even in Wednesday's winds we didn't even have many branches down so hoping that bodes well.
  3. Not sure of exact measurements but can see it over the top of the house !!!! There were two when we moved in but one died so we were able to have it taken down even with the order - this one unfortunately very healthy and unable to do anything due to the order in it - yes survived '87 so fingers crossed.
  4. Really worrying thinking about tonight - we have a tree that is bigger than the house which terrifies me in this wind - unable to cut it down as it has a preservation order in it - hubby says it has probably seen worse in the last 150 years but very worried. I am just going to stick to Tamaras advice - no point in over analysing and seeking out opinions all over the shop to find the worse case scenario - May well move to the bedroom at the front of the house for the night but other than that is hope it is no worse than Wednesday and that I sleep through most of it. Hope everyone escapes unscathed.
  5. Wow some of these posts are making me very nervous about tomorrow - saw some friends this evening who seemed to be totally unconcerned and both the Met and BBC web sites seem to be underlying what I have been telling people. What sort of wind speeds are we expecting in the Croydon area does anybody know and how does this compare to yesterday ?
  6. Just a quick thanks to Tamara for the informative and understandable posts - I am not easily annoyed but have been quietly steaming about the arrogant response - one of the reasons that stops me posting in there which is a shame as I am sure that both myself and others would post in there if we were not worried about being shot down if posting anything not agreed with in certain camps . Anyway onwards and upwards - really looking forward to getting this worrying storm out of the way and then hopefully some drier weather to enable work to start on getting the poor people affected back to normal . Roll on Spring.
  7. Thanks to Tamara and John who provide really understandable and useful posts. Looks as if we have some awful conditions to come still Find it unbelievable that the MOD thread still cold and snow hunting with all this going on .
  8. You are brave John - I am staying put indoors Do we have worse to come here - thought I had read that peak here was around now?.
  9. Sorry to see that people ate being affected by the floods over here now - really hoping things improve for you soon. Can't really understand people still looking at every model for a flake of snow now - sure the last thing that people wading around in feet of water want now is snow. A mild, dry spring cannot come soon enough - fingers crossed
  10. Tuesday seemed to be a day to watch previously with wind, rain and snow being suggested but from what I am reading doesn't seem to be such an issue anymore - or am I not reading correctly?
  11. All seems fairly quiet here - hope it carries on like that - garden is a total mess from the recent bouts of wind and something any more. Just looked at the Netweather forecast for my postcode which is saying no chance of snow between today and 17th - a big step-down from the risk earlier today and not much like anyone on the forums is suggesting. Is the Netweather forecast something anyone looks at or is it best ignored ?
  12. Really confused with the various forecasts I am watching and listening to today 80 mph winds in one forecast and then not mentioned except for blowy rain showers in another. Then snow chance for Tuesday then seemingly no chance on another. Think I need to stop mixing my forecast following and stick to one source as it is becoming increasingly muddling.
  13. Thanks John - hopefully be home and looking out of the window before anything falls - IF it happens
  14. Told hubby maybe snow in our are tomorrow but he said forecast he just heard said rain and didn't mention snow - very confusing when the forecasts are so different.
  15. Have you any idea for our area regarding any snow tomorrow John?- have to say I could do without it tomorrow as busy day so hoping won't be problematic if we see any.
  16. Haven't seen any forecasts that predict snow here tomorrow in fact forecasts on Netweather and TWO show nil per cent for this region - have I missed something a posts on here seem to suggest that we will have ?
  17. Dreadful storm here a while back -didn't last long but as somebody else said like an almighty roar and torrential rain and wind -quite scarey for a few moments. Mod thread not a pleasant place to be - have to wonder what these people are like in the real world when the weather causes such tantrums and rows - we are all interested and have our weather preferences but really .......
  18. I am very confused here - I am still trying to get to grips with the models but am struggling to see how everyone on here is seeing this very wintry weather but every forecast I have seen be it the NW or Met office or TWO there is nothing really to suggest this - why are they not at least showing something close to what is suggested here yet. Sorry I know not strictly model related but I am very confused having looked at Met office and thought a downgrade but then looks like an upgrade on here. Thanks
  19. Still a novice at the charts but the 15-30 day met office written forecast seems to indicate less wintry conditions than it showed earlier.
  20. Are the winds over the next day or two going to be as damaging as those we have recently had - trying to see if there are any updates on the travel sites but nothing seems to be showing for our area at the moment -wonder if this is likely to change
  21. Anyone any idea what sort of winds/rain we are due to get in the Croydon area over the next 24 hours? Back to work tomorrow after long Xmas break so hoping no train problems to/from London .
