Just had a look at the local met office stats and which would paint a dead heat between all of them but we all know stats dont paint a true picture.My memories of working on the farm are the same today as i remember with 1985 being the worst ,really struggled to make any hay and constantly had to get a second tractor to pull out the one that got stuck,shocking.The other three were similar overall with 1986 being cooler but i always thought 1988 was better than the others.

Wettest period i can find here at the local met office[Bradford] is 10 months,June 1927- March 1928 averaging 109mm over the period. 10 month from September 1968 average 97mm 9 month from June 2019 8 month 1944-1945 8 month 1946-1947 but also has 11 out of 12 months in the same period 8 month 1960-61 8 months from June 2012 7 months from October 2015

  14. 1989 really was a great summer but personally i would put 1984 ahead of it despite the statistics being slightly the opposite just how it felt at the time.Along with 1983 a trio of great summers.I would put both 1984 and 1989 better than 1990 with 1990 ranking alongside 1983.None of the trio of great 80s summers were bettered until 2018 except for 1995.The most distinct thing i remember was after almost 5 years of of wet or relatively poor weather from summer 1984 it suddenly switched in April 1989 to dry and the land that summer is something we hadnt seen since 1984.
