  3. As a Farmer i can say that the summer overall was poor but despite the very wet June and July August was actually quite decent with lots of sunshine but the temperatures were very cool. That is why my memories of 2007 were not as bad as the horrors of 2012 and 2008 and even 2023 when we had to do much of our haymaking in September what should have been done in July. However i do remember a conversation with my brother at the end of summer 2007 despite getting the hay done in August that year that it didnt feel like we had had a summer mainly due to the weather in August being constant days of 22 deg at best ,little did i know that it would be another 6 years before we would see another good summer.
  4. A windy day with squally showers and some hail and sunny spells, cooler, max 8 deg,min 3 deg

  6. I never thought we would see 40 deg in this country but i have tried to eat my hat. However lets not forget this could have just been a perfect set up the likes our children may never see however unlikely and also not forgetting many records set in August 1990 were not broken until 2015 and in 2022,that is 30 years!
  7. Rain in the morning becoming drier with a few light showers, max 12 deg,min 5 deg
  8. Cloudy ,dull and some spells of drizzle,max 7 deg,min 5 deg
  9. Location has a big part to play when it comes to Airfrosts but the majority of stations countrywide probably register only one airfrost in May every odd year at best but locations such as Shawbury or Breamar register May frosts most years ,Breamar having 2-3 most of the time. However if you add very cold springs to the equation such as 1996 and 1979 that figure jumps to 11 airfrosts for 1979 at Braemar and 9 for Shawbury in 1996.
  10. Dry ,cloudy and chilly some light drizzle,dull,max 8 deg,min 4 deg
  11. There are actually only 10 days of the year in July and August which have never recorded a night time frost but to answer your question your area has recorded 6 night frosts in May in the last 10 years with each of those years recording only one frost.[Sutton bonnington data, that is the nearest i could find]
  12. Summer of 95 As we all know Statistics do not give a picture how it really feels.I for one also think Summer really starts mid June so my perceptions for a poor summer are loaded on July and August, that is why i call 2010 a poor summer despite it having a very good June.I remember clearly 2007 being poor and wet but August was rather good and sunny despite it being cool[yes temperatures are decieving also] we cracked on with the haymaking that August.2008 however was dismal,it wasnt as wet as the others but endless weeks of showers, dull, cloudy garbage wears you down, the tractors parked up from the end of June right through to the 3rd week of September, unprecidented.
  13. Addicks Fan 1981 Both 2007 and 2012 were much wetter but had much better Augusts, with 2007 being almost a good one while 2008 was poor the whole of July, all August and 3 weeks of September
  14. LetItSnow! Being from a farming background we managed to make less than a quarter of out hay in June but when high Summer haymaking should have arrived we had 11 weeks of rubbish.when we got well into September with no improvement we almost had to abandon the grass and let the cows in.Then out of nowhere Summer finally arrived in the 3rd week of September. My memories of working on the farm right back to the early 70s we almost never had to make hay in September and on the odd occasion we did it was just for the last field,to get to September and still have most of the hay to get is unprecidented in my lifetime let alone the 3rd week.
  15. Some fog to start clearing to leave a mainly sunny day, clouding later in afternoon, max 8 deg,min 1 deg
  16. A frosty start leaving a dry and sunny day, showers arriving late on ,max 9 deg,min -2 deg
  17. Just had a look at the local met office stats and which would paint a dead heat between all of them but we all know stats dont paint a true picture. My memories of working on the farm are the same today as i remember with 1985 being the worst ,really struggled to make any hay and constantly had to get a second tractor to pull out the one that got stuck, shocking. The other three were similar overall with 1986 being cooler but i always thought 1988 was better than the others.
  18. Rain and sleet arriving mid morning becoming drier, cold, max 5 deg,min 1 deg
