  1. one of the things that is very noticeable about the last few days is how little wind there has been. When you look at the current UK power usage wind & solar are providing just 1.5% of the requirement, when in "usual" cyclonic weather its around 32%. You can now see why having diverse sources is key to providing energy.
  2. The radar has shown no snow here for last 30 mins but it is still snowing for now. Happy for it to continue
  3. the main roads are covered round here, definately no gritting going on, and buses have now stopped going to the final stops on route 60 up to Old Coulsdon, as i could see them slipping. This means they will now stop in coulsdon town centre. a few kids on sledges already
  4. just started snowing lightly in Coulsdon. radar seems to show some heavy precipitation just to the south.
  5. met office warning has been updated to correct the spelling mistake. herefordshire is no longer part of the south east.
  6. very light sleet here. the main precipitation band seems to m moving further east so not sure we are going to get much unless it starts pivoting.
  7. Just seen the updated met office warning. Think it has a typo in it, as im not sure herefordshire has ever been clased as being in south east england. Should be hertfordshire, which will be good news for a few on here
  8. Definately getting darker here in Coulsdon, but if the snow has got to Reigate then its only a few more miles north east to go to get here. currently -2.4c DP -3c
  9. According to the radar the snow should be with me soon. It’s turned quite foggy in the last hour but temp still -2.5c and dp -3, so hopeful of snow / Graupal rather than rain
  10. Just checked my weather station and the lowest temp last night was actually 6:35 this morning when it dipped to -8.2c now quite balmy at -7.1c . The blue sky of earlier is filling in, hopefully those snow showers to the west will continue to come across.
  11. the early freezing fog disappeared and the temp soared when the sun came out to the dizzy heights of 0.7c. It's now on the way down, and being as it is clear it might be a very frosty one tonight.
  12. That flurry must have just missed me over here in Coulsdon, it's just very foggy atthe moment and quite raw. still -0.5c at the moment but hit -6.9c before the cloud came over.
  13. We got down to -6.4c last night. It’s already -4.1c now so think we might beat that before any cloud cover arrives.
  14. I was at ecmwf yesterday with met office for some discussions on how the weather warnings are constructed. Very interesting and I can say that the current set up especially the low coming or not early next week is causing a few headaches. Just to say though that they are equally excited about the prospect of snow
  15. First ground frost of winter, which I guess shows how mild it has been. -6.2c when I left for work, so might go a little lower
  16. No doubt we are in for a spell of proper winters weather. History tells us that once the cold is in it takes a while to budge so I feel we’ve a few very cold nights and ice days to come. Whilst the mod channel contemplate the ups and downs of Will it snow, rain be cold or mild I think we should enjoy the weather as it turns out. Personally I’d love some snow but some very cold frosty mornings will do. Off to ecmwf tomorrow so I’ll see what they say straight from the horses mouth
  17. Blimey. 65 pages at 645. 97 now. Something has either gone pear shape catastrophically or has become mega….. time to find out
