  1. Currently -2c . Started my walk in blue sky and sunshine and the fog rolled in so visibility is at 30m in places. Still see a few people driving with no lights on though.
  2. An ice day here as well. The lowest temp this morning was -8.25c at 07:16 and we peaked at -0.5c at 2pm. Now at -4.4c
  3. A crisp -8.1c when I left home this morning and some icy patches on the pavements so take care.
  4. down to -4 here at the moment. if it was this cold 24hrs ago we might have had several cms of snow
  5. very light drizzle here. temp 2.6c, dp 2c . 16mm of rain so far today (103.6mm for the month to date).
  6. Hi Nick, I’m in the valley between old coulsdon and farthing downs on it snowed for a small time but has gone. Walking up to old coulsdon (185m) there is a similar picture to the one you posted. It looks like the cut off was around 170m. Fine margins, but shows just what a difference elevation can make even locally.
  7. Very wet here. It has obviously snowed for a short while as the grass and windscreen show the evidence but now it’s heavy rain/sleet mix.
  8. If the old saying “ an inch of rain equals a foot of snow” was true and this low pressure had run into but not dislodged the cold then we would have 1 foot of snow dive yesterday. ( in metric that would be 30.48 cms)
  9. Down to -3 last night . Currently +1.2c dp 0c . It has been like this for the last hour and although there is more wind it’s currently more southeastly at the moment. No precipitation yet although radar suggests light rain.
  10. Last night it got down to -8.7c here and with some high level cloud coming over itis now up to -2.9c. I've just been looking at my weather station data for the week and it can most definately be said to be an icy week. I've had just 7 hours above freezing since last sunday. 6.5 hours were on Monday where i had the highest temp of the week at +0.6c.There was 1/2 hour above freeze from 12:40 -13:10 on Tuseday and since then it has not been above freezing. The lowest temp was thursday night/friday morning when it got down to -10.9c. Today marks the 7th consecutive day of lying snow and unlike other events, the cover is still much as it was on Sunday, even the trees still have a think coating on branches and foliage. It will end tomorrow/monday but Winter is far from over, we are only 17 days in, and ive a feling there is a lot more to come.
  11. it looks like it might be very hard frost tonight. i cant believe its -7.3c here already!
  12. another icy day, temp rose as high as -0.3c but now it back down to -2.4c and its only 3:30pm.
  13. This is actually good for trees, especially friut trees such as apples and pears as it means they conserve energy going into a dormant state, its like getting a really good nights sleep. If it is mild then never really shutdown so it can cause reduced crops the following year.
  14. Morning all. This is the second morning in a row with temp below -10! If only just at -10.1c . At least Mother Nature is giving the trees what they need, which is several days below 5c to properly shutdown.
  15. temperature has gone up and down a bit this evening (all below zero though), but definately on the way down at present. just hit -7c
  16. very cold day from a cold start. we didn't make it above freezing all dy and already down at -4.7c
  17. Morning everyone, and the coldest night of the year so far. -10.1c currently. Take care out there.
  18. the weather warning this evening was for snow from west country where it would be heavier to a light dusting as it moved further east. those hard lines on the warnings are for guidense, in reailty it's a fuzzy line so showers showing up in baisingstoke and littlehampton might be expected. It does appear though that it might come a bit further east so there might be a few lampposts being watched in hampshire and west sussex, possibly west surrey.
