  1. As a couple of others have said, this event is looking pretty much the same as June 2012, So i would say some average storms running through the SW through the night, and then Saturday during the day an explosive outbreak of more severe storms (possibly another supercell) running from the Midlands NEwards into Leicstershire, Lincolnshire, parts of East Anglia into the afternoon/Evening.
  2. I for one won't be pinning my hopes on French imports, what i would like to see is a full destabilisation of the plume happening somewhere across the UK as happened last Thursday, and as it stands i wouldn't give it over a 50% chance of it happening, timing of the CF is going to be crucial imo.
  3. Galatasaray versus Juventus in Istanbul.......Match abandoned due to snow, says it all really
  4. I spoke to a few people down at Stoke bridge about 2am, Wondered if any of them were you. Water was very high again this afternoon.
  5. Morning all, or is it afternoon, i'm a tad tired So my first port of call last night was Felixstowe Ferry, arrived to find quite a gathering of home and business owners getting the last bits onto higher ground so lent a hand to help them get done, amazingly they were all rather upbeat and excited about what was about to happen, the consensus seemed to be that its mother nature you can't stop it so you may as well enjoy seeing it. I didn't stay too long after the water started rushing in (and it did come fast) as the only road in or out would fill up fast as it took hold. So then it was down to the seafront where it was good too see that the flood defences were hard at work and it was looking like as i said yesterday, just a little splash over the wall and not a raging torrent. On my way back to Ipswich and a quick stop to see how the town was bearing up, a few roads closed as the water reached its peak but again nowhere near as bad as it could have been.
  6. Batteries are all on charge, going to head to Felixstowe ferry later and then Ipswich docks, it will be a once in a lifetime event if i get to see water coming into Ipswich, though with all the new houses and flats along the quay, i think i'll be happy just seeing it splash over the edge a little bit.
  7. Hi all, in the SE/EA thread, hope your all well Haven't said anything for quite a while now, but i'm always lingering in the background and reading whats going on in our lovely regional. Agreed Steve C, was a lovely sunset tonight but like you the camera had been taken in and left at home. I must apologise for the downgrades in this weeks shot at some cold air and snow, i looked out the window at the weekend and saw my daughter had got the sledge out of the shed and was pulling her sister around the garden, the look of horror on my face was a picture. I won't be telling them in the Mod thread or i may see a few toys thrown in my direction, apparently it may have caused winter to be over after 2 days.
  8. I think at the end of the day myself i don't really mind what the weather does, i'm a weather lover and truly believe theres no such thing as bad weather, just different types of weather. If it stays cold and more snow comes then so be it, i'll be there to follow it, if it warms up and the April showers start to kick in then i'll be watching them instead. I suppose there are times when we have plans for a day out that i hope that the weather will stay clear, but i still enjoy sitting under a brolly sometimes with the rain pouring down, just as much as i enjoy sitting with a beer and bbq in the high 20s. If i did have any preference to a certain weather type it would be thunderstorms, but still if i see one then great, if not then thats just the weather for you, i'll still follow it whatever it does.
  9. Come on fella, take it like a man, i've got used to the idea that 80% of the time its probably gonna not happen and i won't take the big hit, but this time i've been just in the right position unlike all the other occasions this year when i've just missed out. Chin up mate and next time might be your lucky day.
  10. The snow has pretty much stopped here now and i can confirm the magical 10cm's has been hit, never expected that a couple of days ago.
  11. Just got home from taking the other half to work, i would say its swings and roundabouts with regards to people being hit financially due to the cold, she works for UK power networks and people there are more than happy with the masses of overtime during the cold spells this year, thats not to say i don't feel for the the people who do get hit hard though. Roads are looking pretty good all over Ipswich, even out in the villages not to bad at all. So the radar is starting to look good again with some cracking lake effect coming out of Holland now.
  12. This is now the best snow event for here this Winter/ Spring, can't believe i've just got up to find it's still snowing steadily, have now breached the January 8cm mark and measuring 9cms, the wind has picked up this morning and snow can be seen blowing off roofs.
  13. You mean you didn't get it, damn Suffolk pigeon service they tend to fly backwards in these chilly conditions, if anybody in the region see's a pigeon with a black briefcase attached please send it in Toms direction.
  14. Hi Tom You've got me 0.7cms, it should be 7cms, i know its just a friendly but after getting trounced last time i was feeling pretty good for a win this time lol
  15. Hi FL What sort of depths have you got there? Looked pretty good coming round Colchester on the A12 when i came through a couple of hours ago, slip roads seemed to have a fair covering, especially the new one at the football ground.
  16. Wow what a night!! Fired my first ever firework display in snow for a wedding in Chelmsford, about 2 inches of level snow on the ground and moderate snow still coming down during the display, the colour and glow on the snow covered ground was amazing. The drive back to Ipswich was horrible though, parts of the A12 had a lot of slush in places notably Colchester where you could see the slip roads had a pretty good covering, and all the way home the snow in the headlights was very hypnotic, very difficult to keep the eyes focused. Now back home and am very happy with the turnout, a nice 7cm's on surfaces in the garden and looking lovely, very happy to be back in the warm now and can sit back and do a bit of radar and lampost watching, and try and get through some of the many pages to catch up on whats been going on around the region.
  17. I concur, after the morning covering melted away, in the last hour a good covering has formed and still falling well.
  18. I have the enjoyment of doing a wedding fireworks display in Chelmsford tomorrow night, never done one with snow on the ground before, i think the colours would look quite good, so i'm hoping they get a few cm's down there, gonna be cold though so a few extra layers going on tomorrow.
  19. Within 30 seconds the road outside of mine looked like this, i just love convection.
