  1. Light powdery snow just starting here in Edgbaston. I see the forecast for today has just been upgraded with heavy snow forecast between 12 and 3pm today. I think we really are down to nowcasting so who knows what's coming Friday/Saturday?
  2. Remember it well. Had to abandon my car near the Plough and Harrow and walk home with everyone else in the city.
  3. Heavy snow here too on the edge of Harborne, just starting to settle on the roads. Looks like there's quite a bit more coming too if the current track holds.
  4. Me too, teeny bit lower down on the Harborne/Edgbaston border. Fingers crossed, we've an interesting weekend in store!
  5. I don't post much but I've been watching the forum and the model output discussion thread long enough to know that with snow in the UK we are pretty much down to now-casting the vast majority of the time when it comes to specific locations. I remember a massive snow event in 2005 that gridlocked Brum that the MetOffice assumed was going to be rain right up until it was actually snow, and an awful lot of it. Car abandoned, I trudged home along with 1000's of others in the snow and the silence that comes with a good fall with not one car moving. It was quite an experience.
  6. Lol I know - but given that I have to make that journey combined with my usual luck - your chances of a total white-out blizzard-fest have just risen exponentially Meanwhile Birmingham will stay as grey as a seriously wet grey thing.
  7. I seriously hope not, we have to pick my Father-in-law up from Hadfield soon! We're going to need a bigger snow-plough.
  8. It would be just nice to see a bit of the white stuff falling! Seems like years since we had anything decent here and the last time it happened I was in New Zealand (although I'm not going to moan too much about that!). I see the Met Office has upgraded the forecast here for Friday. Fingers crossed. I'm also very glad I've got winter tyres on my car, hopefully this year we will actually need them.
  9. Same here - my bed-time approaches. Snowing more heavily here now and covering both minor and main roads. Will be interesting to see what I wake up to! G'night everyone - sweet dreams
  10. It's been snowing here as well since about 10.30pm. It's starting to accumulate albeit slowly. I'd say we've got light-moderate snow but it's fine grains. That said I've got about 1cm on the car and it's starting to stick to pavements and minor roads. It's still quite wet here too on the ground.
  11. Snowing heavily here as well. Small flakes though at the moment. I wasn't expecting to see any for a few hours yet!
  12. Still snowing here! Also had to post a photo of these guys. I've been hoping to snap them for a while as they've started to become garden regulars - slightly O/T but here you go anyway - I think they're gorgeous.
  13. Just got back from picking up the other half (I refused to let him take his rear wheel drive beamer to work) and a journey that would take me 20 mins tops took me 1 1/2 hours. It also had the obligatory rear wheel drive bmw trying to get up a hill sideways.but actually not too bad for Birmingham, given that we usually have a grid-locked city after 5cm snow. It's still snowing heavily although the flakes are a lot smaller and denser now, we've got approx 8cm depth and it's -1 degrees C. Anyway here are a few more pics: Our main road at 9am Same road at 1pm (except I found my wide angle lens ) Our street is looking a lot snowier now A happy blackbird enjoying lunch (I know, I need a new bird table)
  14. Coming down quite heavy here now. The main roads are starting to cover and we've got 4cm so far, not including slight drifts. The wind is not particularly heavy though.
  15. Well, here are some photos - taken at 10pm tonight. Sorry they're not that great but I'm a bit limited without a tripod. Will be aiming to post more as time goes on tomorrow if anyone's interested in the progression. So far the snow is still light, as it has been since this started this afternoon and we've got about 1cm or so of lying snow.
  16. Well it's certainly not stopping here yet. Looking at the radar the band now seems extremely slow moving. We've got a light covering here and I'd say it's light-moderate snowfall. Certainly wasn't expecting to see any of this until tomorrow, so it just goes to show that we are definitely all in nowcast territory
  17. Yes it's very quiet on here. Still light snow here, but it's picked up a bit over the last 10mins or so. Just looking at the radar and can see two bands - one that's been pushing west and another pushing east. The colder one from the east is going to win out by the looks of it as they converge, but should give us a few hours of light snow here. It's not really sticking though yet, there just isn't quite enough of it.
  18. Haha! You're just jealous about Friday I've seen some pretty heavy dumpings whilst I've lived here, but they rarely seem to last very long. Would it be fair to see we get most of our snow from "battleground" scenarios here?
  19. With the Beasterly currently showing on the ECM from 144h on - if that verified would we get snow in the West Mids?
  20. Shame we're not merged with the East Mids folk. I might actually have a chance to do some gloating whilst digging myself out of a snow-drift
  21. Models all looking good for Friday and into the weekend. Well I've got grit, winter tyres, a snow-shovel, and with 3 full feeders of seeds and nuts, a bird-table and ground-feeder topped up and low-freezing point water, hopefully both me, my OH and the birds are now sorted. Roll on Friday ! (If I've jinxed it by typing that I'm going to scream - loudly)
  22. Just had a look at the UKMO and it's still predicting 24 hrs snow for our region from Friday onwards with snow to pretty much all of the UK by Saturday. I'm confident we're going to see some - how much is going to fall where? We're just going to have to watch the radar as always!
  23. If these latest charts verify (which they probably won't for us because they rarely do) we'll be in for some major disruption. Looks like there's a fair chance someone will though, to the point of potential trouble rather than fun.
  24. I've only just started following the models in the Model thread, but the events of Sunday and Monday taught me a big lesson in terms of what to expect when it comes to our region, and that is pretty much nothing until the flakes are coming down! The potential is there at the moment for some really decent snow, but things can and do change very quickly so we'll see. Fingers crossed!
