  1. Favourite and least favourite winters of this century are obivous to me, they clearly standout from the rest of the winters Favourite: 2009-10 Least favourite: 2013-14 One problem I have with winter 10-11 is that it was virtually over come Boxing Day. Did have that amazing December but it was really concentrated into that period up to that Christmas. There were more air frosts this February than there was during February 2011. 2020-1 was a pretty decent winter here, the coldest, snowiest weather was during the heart of winter from Christmas 2020 until mid February 2021. 2008-09 was half decent, lacking in decent snowfalls but it was more spread out and personally, I prefer these type of winters or when the concentration of any wintry weather is from Christmas onwards ie the heart of winter. Winters 2019-20 and 2021-22 were gawd awful Using my winter index 2013-14: 7 2006-07: 21 2015-16: 28 2021-22: 28 2019-20: 29 2007-08: 37 2016-17: 37 2002-03: 44 2018-19: 45 2004-05: 47 2011-12: 47 2001-02: 50 2003-04: 50 2022-23: 53 2005-06: 59 2000-01: 77 2014-15: 82 2017-18: 93 2012-13: 102 2008-09: 105 2010-11: 119 2020-21: 120 2009-10: 197
  2. B87 Scratching my head with your choice of Jun 2016 and 2017 Both were warmer than average Junes and not much difference, rainfall wise Looking at the CET and EWP
  3. Interestingly, for such an exceptionally mild winter month for the CET, the EWP could end up having a higher total value than that for Scotland. That is a bit of an oddity.
  4. The last few days of February 1924 ended on a wintry note but a particularly potent wintry blast hit the UK on Leap Day of 1924 giving heavy snowfalls A minimum of -16.7°C was recorded at Balmoral on the morning of the 3rd March Manchester 2nd March: Mainly overcast; heavy snow during night and morning. Max: 40°F Min: 30°F Belper Max, Min °F 1st March: 39.0, 28.0 2nd March: 36.4, 26.0 3rd March: 40.0, 26.2 Tunbridge Wells 1st March: 43, 34 2nd March: 45, 31 3rd March: 43, 31
  5. dryfie The thing is, the Met Office had already tinkered with the CET, hence why I brought up the Manley CET post. Sadly, Philip Eden's climate.uk has gone from the internet.
  6. -1.1°C currently, got down to -2.5°C in the early hours. 5 air frosts during the February, that 2 more than during the whole meteorological winter of 2013-14
  7. Anyone remember the late Philip Eden had a Manley version of the CET? I wonder what the Manley version of recent CETs would have been?
  8. Scorcher BlueSkies_do_I_see Never understood this, a specific date is midnight to midnight, so why isn't all data based on this principle as well ?
  9. Summer 1994, overall a great summer. Wet Wet Wet's version of "Love is all Around" was number 1 throughout that summer. But this song reminds me of this summer. I remember listening to it on the local radio in the garden, it was a lovely warm sunny day and for some reason when I hear this version of the song, it reminds of that summer's day back in 1994.
  10. Winter 1945-46 went out on a wintry note Manchester 28th February Overcast with snow early morning becoming bright at midday. Max: 37°F Min: 27°F
  11. Summer 2018 May to mid July 2018 was magnificent. The summer index of May-July 2018 was the equivalence of that of summer 1995. That's how exceptional May-July 2018 period was up here.
  12. February 1779 is the mildest February on record (at time of post) with a CET of 7.9°C It occurred admist an unusual early season drought that gripped many parts of continental Europe. The EWP total for the first three months of 1779 was just 44.4mm Compare that total to the driest summer on record for the EWP with 66.9mm 14th March 1779 3rd April 1779 12th June 1779 From Europe Naples Cittavecchia Smyrna Madrid Given how dry and warm February and March 1779 would suggest a prolonged spell of Bartlett high pressure. Possibly similar to what happened during February 1998
  13. January 1916 and 1917 February 1917, 1918 and 1919 October 1921 and 1922 May 1922 and 1923 December 1933 and 1934 August 1954, 1955 and 1956 April 1986 and 1987
  14. This winter could end up being the 2nd wettest winter on record for the region.
  15. LetItSnow! Yes, I think it might have got as high as +17°C 850hpa
