  1. LetItSnow! Paris recorded 89°F (very sultry) according to a report in the Standard and a station in London had a minimum of just 68°F Rome: 95°F
  2. The NOAA anomaly charts says it all 500mb 1st July 2023-29th February 2024 Compare with 1st July 1995-29th February 1996 which was highly blocked Precipitation rates 1st July 2023-29th February 2024 Compare with 1st July 1995-29th February 1996, where hosepipe bans were being enforced
  3. The 500mb anomaly chart for February How did England and Wales record more rain than Scotland during February? The SE England region recorded almost the same total as Scotland did and the SW region recorded more rain than the north of Scotland. Yet you look at look at that anomaly chart, you would think it should be the driest regions for the UK
  4. Summer 1994 and 1996, both, IMO, were better than summer 1990. Didn't think that summer 2019 was that great and summer 2020 was bad especially the July, one of the wettest summers on record here.
  5. A vintage clip from an edition of Nationwide from 1979 celebrating 25 years of BBC weather
  6. Typical, clear for a good portion of the night but during that key period, a bank of stratocumulus largely obscures the skies to my north
  7. That period went out with a bang with a blizzard and a severe gale as a low pressure tracked across the south of England and deepened
  8. Looks like it was the wettest Leap Day since at least 1928, the EWP daily records only go back to 1931.
  9. In Absence of True Seasons There was nothing “worryingly dry” anyway at the time of that post as I pointed out that quite a bit of rainfall had fallen since the summer of 2022 up to time of that post. We were not going into a “run up to summer 1976” scenario with the summer of 2023. Autumn 2022 was very wet one for the SE and so was the spring of 2023. There is a good argument to say the current wetness started after the summer of 2022 with a gear change for the worse from July 2023.

  11. 1/6th of the year has gone already and its Easter next month. Gee....the passage of time seems to increase as you get older.
  12. Looking at the rainfall stats since the start of March 2023 and July 2023 up to present day are staggering for parts of the UK. -------------------------------------------------------- For the NW England/N Wales region as designated by the Met Office 1123.4mm since the start of July 2023. An annual rainfall total of that amount would make that year the 32nd wettest on record for the region March 2023-February 2024: 1406.6mm provisionally December 1999-November 2000: 1403.3mm The wettest year on record for the region is 1877 with 1375.7mm ------------------------------------------------------- For England and Wales March 2023-February 2024 provisionally: 1319mm The wettest year on record is 1872 with 1284.9mm July 2023-February 2024 provisionally: 1012.5mm ---------------------------------------------------- Central England region March 2023-February 2024 provisionally: 980.5mm Wettest year on record for that region is 1882: 884.6mm July 2023-February 2024 provisionally: 752.6mm ------------------------------------ SW Region March 2023-February 2024 provisionally: 1457.2mm Wettest year on record for that region is 2012: 1395.7mm July 2023-February 2024 provisionally: 1114.9mm Haven't got time to go through all the figures but welcome further addition to these amazing stats.
  13. Looks like it could be the 4th wettest winter on record for the region. 1123.4mm since the start of July 2023. An annual rainfall total of that amount would make that year the 32nd wettest on record for the region March 2023-February 2024: 1406.6mm provisionally December 1999-November 2000: 1403.3mm The wettest year on record for the region is 1877 with 1375.7mm
  14. Manchester Winter Index has come in as 32 for winter 2023-24 Manchester Winter index for 21st century winters ranked from least "wintriest" to most "wintriest" 2013-14: 7 2006-07: 21 2015-16: 28 2021-22: 28 2019-20: 29 2023-24: 32 2007-08: 37 2016-17: 37 2002-03: 44 2018-19: 45 2004-05: 47 2011-12: 47 2001-02: 50 2003-04: 50 2022-23: 53 2005-06: 59 2000-01: 77 2014-15: 82 2017-18: 93 2012-13: 102 2008-09: 105 2010-11: 119 2020-21: 120 2009-10: 197
  15. Favourite and least favourite winters of this century are obivous to me, they clearly standout from the rest of the winters Favourite: 2009-10 Least favourite: 2013-14 One problem I have with winter 10-11 is that it was virtually over come Boxing Day. Did have that amazing December but it was really concentrated into that period up to that Christmas. There were more air frosts this February than there was during February 2011. 2020-1 was a pretty decent winter here, the coldest, snowiest weather was during the heart of winter from Christmas 2020 until mid February 2021. 2008-09 was half decent, lacking in decent snowfalls but it was more spread out and personally, I prefer these type of winters or when the concentration of any wintry weather is from Christmas onwards ie the heart of winter. Winters 2019-20 and 2021-22 were gawd awful Using my winter index 2013-14: 7 2006-07: 21 2015-16: 28 2021-22: 28 2019-20: 29 2007-08: 37 2016-17: 37 2002-03: 44 2018-19: 45 2004-05: 47 2011-12: 47 2001-02: 50 2003-04: 50 2022-23: 53 2005-06: 59 2000-01: 77 2014-15: 82 2017-18: 93 2012-13: 102 2008-09: 105 2010-11: 119 2020-21: 120 2009-10: 197
  16. B87 Scratching my head with your choice of Jun 2016 and 2017 Both were warmer than average Junes and not much difference, rainfall wise Looking at the CET and EWP
  17. Interestingly, for such an exceptionally mild winter month for the CET, the EWP could end up having a higher total value than that for Scotland. That is a bit of an oddity.
