  1. Yeah, I'm at the Centre for Atmospheric Science working in research. Looking forward to the potential snow showers later - although the view from my window isn't the best!
  2. Certainly notable this cold front, looks like we had a drop of about 5C in a short space of time in Manchester City Centre. We also have another observation site at Holme Moss (524m asl), the present weather sensor was reporting light snow not too long ago with a temperature ~ 1C. After the last cold spell there was about 8" of snow, but difficult to measure because of the drifting! http://www.cas.manchester.ac.uk/restools/fieldstations/holmemoss/met/data/index.html
  3. With all the talk about possible snow for many later not much focus has been paid to the active cold front about to rattle through. We've just had a pre frontal shower pass through Manchester, peak gust around18 m/s and rain rate 30mm/hr measured at the Whitworth Observatory at the Uni of Manchester: http://www.cas.manchester.ac.uk/restools/whitworth/data/
  4. I suspect that if showers align then even low lying areas away from the coasts with see accumulating snow. I think this could even be possible in Manchester City Centre provided the showers are heavy and prolonged enough.
  5. That is weird! Could be something to do with the clear skies shortly before it, possibly some kind of radiation fog...but who knows why it's moving in the wrong direction!
  6. Can confirm some over Manchester City Centre and more general towering cumulus to the South. Looking quite dark out there (factoring in the setting sun!). 26.5C at 9pm at the Whitworth Observatory.
  7. I'm not going to pay too much attention to it until tomorrow, but it's certainly worth watching.
  8. Sunday/Monday looks interesting. The latest UKMO develops quite a lot of precipitation moving North and this is much further West on the latest runs, now covering the whole of the North West.
  9. I'm not sure this is supported by the model output? I don't see any significant snow for tomorrow. Friday however is a different matter!
  10. If the 06z came off inland NW England would see an awful lot of snow through Friday and into Saturday.
