  1. There has been a large heath fire here, 70 firefighters at the scene, the road was shut betwen Wareham and Corfe Castle.

They now have it under control and the road is about to reopen but the fire brigade have warned, the heathland is very dry at the moment.

I'm surprised at it being that dry, a recent walk across Arne heath showed it to be very boggy with a lot of pools of water. huh.png

Second fire in area over last 10 days,,,,,,,,,,,High grass land here that exposed to wind is tinder-dry even though the ground still wet and boggy, can only think effect of the drying winds,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Ice crystays and sleety here at moment,,,Had bit of everything today,,,,Snowflakes,Sun,Rain,Hail and sleet wacko.png

  2. Got few veg seedlings showing in greenhouse, but planting will be delayed this season, In greenhouse this morning it felt plesent with sun shining through the glass.

Pond frozen over and some perennial plants suffered frost damage, This time last spring everything was well underway with temps 18c +, Hoping after the Spring Equinox, Weather will start returning to some more average temps for time of year, Only 2 weeks 4 days to Clocks change, good.gif

Sun blue sky from this morning gone and replaced with cloud, Temps 6.9c

  3. Well you be grateful for that 2mm, some places have seen nothing at all, any snow at this time of the year is a bonus surely?

Here we have had a fair bit fall, but not much has settled, everytime it stopped today the dusting melted, but I am more than happy to have seen snow fall, even if there isn't much to show for it drinks.gif You mediated that strike well,,,I withdraw Industrial action,,

Just to add that the temperature has actually risen here, it was -0.3C at 6pm & it is now +0.1C

You mediated that strike well,,,I withdraw Industrial action,,,,
  4. Overall a pretty disappointing episode. The only extreme thing being the temps and windchill.

As for snowfall. This has been yet another event which proves just how much the exact track of the the channel low is of vital importance to proper snow chances. Even as I write this the radar show heavy snow pehaps 30 miles to the south of me in the Channel where it is happily melting on impact with the sea. A slightly more northern track and we'd have been talking about a very special event for mid march in southern England. As it is we got a dusting not a dumping and even the met office couldn't get the track right 12 hours before it all happened. ( not a criticism) , which just goes to show how hard it is to get it right.

Having had three channel lows in four days back in Feb 1978 that delivered copiously maybe i have used up my lifetime quota of the b*****s.

Think what makes these events so memorable is that everything got to fall in place just at the right time, When it does "BINGO"
