  1. Saw this strange rainbow strip heading home from work tonight. I was north of dundee looking east towards east angus when the sun was setting.
  2. Been a while since I was on here.........I took a photo of these clouds above Dundee this evening. Thought they were quite interesting.
  3. Well we've made it........the shortest day of the year !! This is when winter really should start. Unfortunately today looks very atlantic driven with fast moving clouds from the west. I don't think this winter has been too bad in these parts we've had snow nearby at higher levels, plenty of hard frosts and some very stormy weather as well. We could do with an easterly blast though to deliver some real cold and snow !!
  4. Went for a walk on the way home. Heavy snow falling and about 2-3 inches on the ground.
  5. Just in from fixing people's boilers and heating. We've escaped most of the rain so far but it has been very windy.
  6. Walked the dog this morning round the dichty burn. Twas sunny with an icey wind ! The clouds rolling in from the northwest had all the characteristics of snow clouds but have delivered cold rain in these parts. My in-laws stay at a slightly higher altitude and have had some falling snow. I feel it's still very early days for this winter, we never really had anything as promising as this last winter which delivered atlantic depression after depression.
  7. Hopefully see aerial images like this soon !!
  8. Evening all, been too long.......... It's amazing where we are now in terms of the weather, it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were having above average temps mixed with dull and damp conditions. How quick the tables have turned ;-)
  9. Was working in the hills near Selkirk in the borders today, heavy snow/blizzard like conditions. Now back in Dundee it's the same rainy/windy pish that's been served up all winter !!
  10. I reckon we are now being punished for that dry spring, summer and autumn. It was inevitable really.
  11. Evening folks it's been a while since I posted in here !! It really is amazing looking back a couple of winters ago, that were incredibly cold. People started saying that this would be a common occurrence, and here we are now on the verge of the kind of winters we used to get in the 80s . Just goes to show that in our wee corner of the globe you can never predict what we're gonna get be it winter or be it summer-keeps you on your toes !!!
  12. I drove all over Angus and fife today as well as dundee and was amazed that some parts had no snow what so ever and others had ridiculous amounts to the extent that the snow piled up at the side of the road was higher than my van !! Looks like the cold spell is coming to an end by the weekend though. But it's interesting reading the strat thread, they seem to be quite confident of another cold spell in February which is generally always quite a snowy month anyhoo. I have lots of photos from my travels but how in good gods name do I upload them from my phone ????
  13. Tbh I'd rather it was dry and frosty compared to this nonsense, wet rubbish snow. Not much you can do though !! Only upshot is only need to drive 15 mins to higher ground and there will be loads of the stuff and has been since last Monday. Incidently how come we got so much more snow nearer the coast(east) in late November 2010 compared to now ???
  14. Absolutely pelting it doon here !! Not expected in the slightest.....
  15. Was in Kirriemuir yesterday, almost snowmagedon. It's snowing pretty heavy here now also .
  16. Wet slushy snow here, very deep covering of snow up towards Forfar. Currently 1c although it feels more Baltic in the wind.
  17. To me it looked like the reporting scotland forecast was different to the national forecast. You'd think they could have at least done a forecast in tandem !!
  18. Spokeswoman from the met says red warning means 'TAKE ACTION!!'...................not sure what action I'm going to take to be honest ? Take the day off work seems like reasonable action to me !!!!
  19. A wintry mix here, rather dull. At least the weather is more like winter though. Are there any signs where this spell is going I.e. will the cold strengthen further down the line? I know how difficult predicting the weather after 5 days can be though !!
  20. If it doesn't snow this week I'm going to the indoor ski centre with my sledge.
  21. My plan is to avoid any weather reports and avoid looking at any weather forums over the next couple of days and judge the weather forecast by looking out the front window and opening the door to judge the temperature !!
  22. Looks like this cold spell isn't going to be quite as cold as we all thought, certainly no '-20c in altnaharra' like we saw a few years back yet. Maybe it's just the start of something though.......... It's been fairly dull here all day with grey cloud rolling off the North Sea eastwards and a temp of 3c.
  23. http://www.ski-glenshee.co.uk/Webcam - Glenshee look like they could do with some snow !!
  24. N.I. Does look good, I stupidly must have looked on that forum and looked at the wrong diagram !!
  25. Am I right in thinking that this wee cold snap would be a lot colder if our near continental neighbours had a greater snow coverage like what we had in 09/10 and December 2010. Not sure if I'm right but just going on the snow coverage for the N.H. at this moment in time it seems like the mild period we have had in Western Europe has pushed the real cold way back east in to Russia. Thus taking it more time to make its way west ?
