Correct, but they seem to be remaining confident that on average 'colder conditions will continue' obviously with short periods of milder spells for western areas. But I think we won't get into a run of mild South-Westerlies but more of a North-Westerly wind, which will keep temperatures on the cool side of average.

Met Office latest 1-10 Dec : "Wintry showers are expected to affect some eastern areas on Saturday with snow on hills, possibly to low levels in the north. Elsewhere, largely dry and fine, but cold with the risk of frost, icy patches and overnight freezing fog. By Sunday, rain may spread into the far west, preceded by snow, mainly over higher ground. There is a lot of uncertainty for the remainder of the period but it is likely that northern and eastern areas remain cold with wintry showers for some. Elsewhere, it will probably become milder, at least for a time, but also more unsettled, with rain and hill snow accompanied by stronger winds. Later in the period, colder but drier conditions may become re-established across the UK, with frost and icy patches for many."

Sure is... 'The Weather Outlook' who have been backing the long cold spell today have said the Atlantic will Burst through By December the 2nd

Been keeping upto date with the development on this, and today is the only day where I have felt as though this cold snap is going to be for a week at the most

Think December 2010 was worse overall for the UK for snow, I know in Glasgow the snow depth varied but there was over a foot widely with some places getting a lot more. Don't know any figures but December 2010 was legendary.

Should check out http://www.gavsweathervids.com/ he does frequent videos on the coming days and is also getting pretty excited about this cold spell.

Looks like it is going to happen now, but for how long? and how cold? - We ill just have to wait and see...Hopefully very long, and very cold
