  1. Mornin' Kilties! Bit of a change here overnight. It rained for a while and the snow is all but gone from low levels. Temp 1.7c so if it stays like that at least the ice will shift. It also makes it easier for me to get out on my search for Black Gold... aye, coal! The hardware store in Kyle stocks stove ovoids so a trip over the bridge today should secure enough coal for maybe a couple of weeks so long as the temps don't drop as they did this week. And of course after I've bought coal guess who'll turn up, eh? Be good if he did though, that would be me stocked up for six weeks anyway!
  2. No snow here, just a graupel shower. That on top of the black ice on my driveway could make for some interesting driving! Currently 0.8c with lots of very heavy cloud away to the north east. We shall see what today brings, not so much as a delivery of the white stuff, but a delivery of the black stuff! Anyone seen the coalman?
  3. Greetings frame the sub tropics o' Skye! Temp dropped to -2.4c overnight and we're now basking in a very balmy 4.2c. Lucky us, eh? I'm keeping the stove in the kitchen running overnight, leaving kitchen door open to let some heat through to the sitting room. I'll top it up with wood and dross during the day to eke out the coal. Still no delivery of the black stuff! If the situation remains the same over the next few days it won't be so much a hunt for cold, as a hunt for coal! I hate driving in these kind of conditions, but if needs must.....
  4. A glorious morning here, clear skies and frosty, current temp -1.1c, which crept up from an overnight low of -1.5c. A walk later on today I think and hand out a few Chrissy cards locally. I'm wondering if I post some will they reach their destination in time for the big day? I was pleasantly surprised to have a delivery yesterday afternoon, and the postie told me that not everywhere was out on strike. He thinks next industrial action will be Wednesday up here. I'm a bit confused as I thought it was a blanket strike covering the whole country. Anyhoo, poor lad obviously in a tearing hurry to get going again, bet his wee red van was piled high! On a happier note my central heating is fixed and I managed to get the programmer set! No thanks to Danfoss who provided no instructions with the new programmer! Seriously bad form that. I eventually found a video on YouTube which showed me what to do and no-one was happier than me when the heating kicked in bang on time yesterday afternoon! Now all I need is for the coalman to deliver and I'll be a very happy girl! A very kind neighbour let me have a bag of his coal to tide me over. The local support mechanism always kicks in well in times of need here! The mainland hills look stunning today, all pink and rosy from the sunrise. Lucky me living where I do!
  5. Good afternoon Kilties! I'm a very happy girl today, not because a foot of snaw has fallen at my back door, ( it hasn't! All we've had is sleety rain! ) but because the central heating is now working! Whoop Whoop! Now all I have to do is figure out how to program the programmer which is proving to be a bit trickier than the previous Danfoss I had which was a diddle to set up. This new one has parameters. What the heck are they and why do I need them? All I want is a simple programmer that lets me time the heating to come on twice a day and over ride the programme easily if I need to. But no, they've got to upgrade these things and make it more difficult for me to understand. The videos on youtube aren't much help either, so I forsee a few frustrating days ahead of me. Never mind, I'm sure there will be someone somewhere who can point me in the direction of simple instructions! I hope you're all getting some decent snowfall, doesn't look like we'll be getting much here anytime soon.
  6. A dusting on the Red Cuillin today but seeing as how the temp only went down to 3.2 overnight, no ice! I doubt I'll see any snow to my level overnight, but if I do, I'll post a wee piccie
  7. That wind would cut ye in three! Not that it's strong, just the direction it's from. I'm still without central heating, programmer is still with Royal Mail and doesn't seem to have moved since Thursday. Coal situation not good, if I don't get a delivery by Friday, some very kind friends have offered me a couple of bags to tide me over. My faith in human nature has been restored! Got an extra wooly blanket looked out ready to top the bed up with another cosy layer.
  8. A bit nippier this morning at 2.5c, up from 0.2c overnight. Clear skies, so walkies later. Still no central heating but I have a coal fire in the sitting room so one room at least will be warm. But I'm running out of coal. Ordered it nearly two weeks ago and they still can't tell me when it'll be delivered! Not good! Could be a fun week at MQ Towers. Not.
  9. Just checked some charts on here for the next fortnight ....... oh dear! If that comes off it could get very messy! And my central heating isn't working. And my coal supply is getting low. Ordered some last week and they can't even tell me when it'll be delivered. Not happy! I could very well get jaffa cakesed and forget my woes this weekend!
  10. Good morning Happy Campers! Temp down to 2.7c overnight, but no frost. Now up to 4.5c and cloudy with it. A wee bit of smirr flung in for good measure! At least there's no horizontal rain and drips coming through the ceiling to cope with! Possibility of something a bit more seasonal for the next week or so, but I ain't building up my hopes! Will pop in to the mad thread and see who's contemplating emigration to the Far North today.
  11. Well, what a lovely day it is! All calm and quiet, even a touch of blue sky! But the best bit is.....NO RAIN! And it looks like it'll continue that way for the rest of the week. Deep Joy! Checking out those charts Kirkaldy Weather posted, well, I could imagine a few folks in the Madhouse just aboot ready tae explode wi' exitement, eh? They do look impressive though, even I'll admit that, but the likelihood of that actually coming off? Answers on a postcard please!
  12. Bit of a shocker this morning, temp was 1.2c at 7am! Heating now ON, unless it starts getting milder again! Currently 8.4c, calm and dry, which is very welcome after the rubbish weekend we just had. Dare I go and have a wee keek in the Madhoose?
  13. LOvely day today after the cr*p of last week. Put a load of washing out and it's all dry now. Can't remember ever having done that before so late on in the year. Out for a wee walk today, lovely and calm and mild. While I do appreciate this nice spell I do wonder what we're going to get hit with in the next few weeks. If it stays like this it'll surely be one of the mildest winters on record.
  14. Switched heating off a few days ago as ridiculously mild, had it on for 1 hour yesterday to dry washing and also help dry the house as I had quite a few drips appearing on Wednesday through till Friday PM. All dried off nicely now, have lit small fire in sitting room as it's really all I need right now. Looks like it'll be back on next week as the temps start to drop again.
  15. Another day of pure Cr*p. Rain running down the driveway like a river and most likely getting into the garage despite the barricade in front of the doors. Think I'll invest in some sandbags....... At least it's mild, currently 13.5c. will check rain gauge later. I emptied it yesterday so I reckon it'll be overflowing now.
  16. Afternoon all! Ridiculously warm here at 14.6c, although it was up to 15.3 earlier on, and very blustery too. Doubt I'll be lighting the fire today as the the smoke will just blow down the chimney! Not looking that great for the forseeable either, so a mild, dreich, rain sodden Autumn is what I'll be getting. Ah well, even one sunny, dry day would be nice!
  17. This is me too! Can't sleep in a room with the window closed! Fresh Air Fiend, that's me!
  18. Woke to crystal clear starry skies this morning at 5.30am. Still clear but a few cheeky wee clouds have put in an appearance. Looks like it'll be a belter of a day. Chilly though, at 3.2c. I'll take this any day!
  19. It has rained constantly since I got back from my hols on Sunday. Clothes horse getting closer to the fire than the cats. Trying very hard not to use tumble drier. Hoping it might dry up a little this afternoon so that I can get out for a wee stretch of the legs.
  20. Calm and cool here, 13.8c outside, 15.4c in my bedroom. Cloudy, no wind, not an ideal laundry drying day but a girls gotta try!
  21. Yep, it'll soon be time for me to get the warmer duvet looked out, along with the fluffy thermal sheets and the electric blanket. I do like my comforts!
  22. Had it on for an hour yesterday as house felt damp after plasterers had been. Fire has been on in sitting room since Tuesday and I reckon that'll be it on for the foreseeable. Makes a huge difference even with a wee fire for a few hours.
  23. A distinct nip in the air over the last two days. Temp down to 7c overnight. ( Whisper it! ) I put the heating on for an hour this morning. No, I'm not loaded, but needs must when you have to dry the laundry! Dry today, so washing line looking rather full!
