  1. Temperature on the rise here, it got down to 2.9°C but now 5.1°C. I wasn't expecting anything anyway but didn't think there would be such a rise!
  2. Well after last nights disappointment we finally got some decent falling snow! Nothing settled of course as the ground was too wet, but we had a snow shower with big fat flakes at 3.30 ish, then a rain shower after and now just had another snow shower. Already better than last year I guess!
  3. It certainly seems to be trying it's hardest!! Especially with the heaviest of the precipitation! Ah well, I'm off back to sleep, watch it fall purely as snow now haha.
  4. Definitely periods where it is more snow, a little more elevation is probably doing nicely. It is nice to see it falling when it does become more snowy than sleety at least. Feels like we were on the edge of something more special however.
  5. Yeah, temp and dew point are below freezing, for once, whilst there is precipitation! But something else is stopping this being a whiteout. I suspect milder upper air temps at a guess.
  6. Yeah, both the temperature and dew point are the right side of freezing but I guess the upper air temps are too high? Fingers crossed for it to change but I can see where this is going
  7. Convection is cruising on through though :(. I am impressed with how well I timed my alarm with the precipitation but dissapointed at what is falling so far.
  8. Temperature got down to -3.5°C earlier. Now it is up to -1.4°C with dewpoint of -1°C. We have rain, but it is slowly transitioning to something more wintery. The fact that it has started off as rain is surprising though.
  9. If you were in the middle of the Atlantic maybe! I'm at 1018.6mb in Somerset.
  10. It really is infuriating, I definitely saw a few flakes initially but once the precipitation pepped up a bit it turned to rain. Perhaps the upper air temps are too high and it was colder at the surface, and the heavier precipitation brought the warmer air down, just a guess. I think we have been in some kind of temperature inversion all day.
  11. I have enjoyed the couple of hard frosts we've had admittedly. But yeah, it will be a complete waste if we get nothing in the way of snow at all, and a few flakes sure doesn't count.
  12. Yes. I am sick to death of near misses. The only reason I tolerate Winter is for a chance of snow, no snow, bring on a more cheerful season.
  13. Precipitation got heavier, and now it is definitely... Rain. You couldn't make it up. Temperature now rising quite well, 1.0°C, warmest it has been all day.
  14. Very, and emphasis on very, light snow here. I can only see it as I have a streetlight outside my bedroom window. The next streetlight along is too far away to make out the snow it is so light. This is the worst snow tease.
  15. Coldest night of the Winter so far last night with a low of -4.4°C, which makes it slightly colder than New Years Eve's -4.3°C. At last, some proper frosts! Last year, the lowest temperature for Winter itself was -0.8°C (though -2.0°C was then achieved in March), so I am happy this Winter so far actually resembles Winter.
  16. I know the feeling of being desperate, I've been glued to the radar looking for tiny little flurries trying to make it hear from the east. I sincerely hope we get some proper snow before the Winter is out! That last picture looks very like the "accumulation" we had last night lol
  17. We are literally right on the southern edge of Taunton, at the southern end of Chestnut Drive, I guess we are slightly higher up but not by much. We are literally the last road of houses before open fields though so maybe we are marginally cooler than in town. Don't worry too much though, it wasn't much to write home about haha. Friday looks like a better chance potentially!
  18. We've just had a brief snow shower here on the southern edge of Taunton, has left the slightest dusting on the grass. With a 2 minute sprinkling a couple nights ago, it's been a good week
  19. Looks like we might actually get our first frost from this cold spell tonight, the skies are at last clear and at last the breeze has dropped out, 0.7°C and falling.
  20. Steadily getting milder here, the temperature dropped to 2.5°C, now up at 5.0°C and the wind is picking up. Apparently we are meant to be getting a frost haha
  21. We are up at a balmy 6.0°C here with a dewpoint of 3°C. What cold spell? We haven't even recorded a frost here over the Christmas period, been too much precipitation around, and it's all been rain.
  22. No, because the post was referring to how this will affect the UK. What happens in the US has a knock on effect over here.
