  1. Super Typhoon Haiyan, the most intense typhoon I have ever personally tracked. an absolutely stunning sight. I just wish it wasn't on course for the Philippines :(

      This is getting interesting for me now. I'm certain the strongest ever recorded had sustained winds of 215mph but this was from a long time ago so may be inaccurate anyway.

      Yes, most likely. You are referring to Nancy, but they often used flight level winds then which are stronger than the surface so the 215mph is probably false.

      I remember watching an old prog on Discovery about typhoon paka, they said on there that winds of 235mph had been recorded on Guam but it blew away the anemometer, so it could not be verified. :s
