  1. I wouldn't get your hopes up for anything apart from rain. .....currently wet, 4.2C with dewpoint of 3.0c here in north Hampshire
  2. A bit desperate I know .....but at least if Yellowstone goes up we're likely to get some winters to remember!!
  3. What's the record for the Poole area? I reckon you could get some of the rain which is currently over the south-east and together with the deluge forecast for Friday easily break through 280mm. Happy days!....and then a wet early Feb to look forward to.
  4. Surely its more than a few people that we're paying to protect.....what about the farmland ? 650sq km of grazing land has got to be worth a bit to both the local and national economy.
  5. Is it just my poor eyesight......or is Ian Botham building an ark??
  6. Quite a bit of rain showing on the radar (surprise, surprise) just to the west of the Scilly Isles.....looks like it'll make Cornwall by 6 pm ish before moving across our area. I'm assuming that this isn't tomorrows rain ......but an extra Brucey bonus??
  7. 8.74mm since midnight......with lots more to come Could really do without the rain forecast for today and tomorrow!
  8. Well.....that's scuppered any potential cold spell. James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said: “January is likely to become progressively colder. It will be a very cold and exceptionally snowy month overall, especially in the second half.†http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/451924/Snow-and-arctic-winds-to-plunge-Britain-into-deep-freeze-after-storm-destruction
  9. Many are relatively new houses. Local authority planning departments and the large housebuilders are the first to point the finger at: ....they (should) know what they are doing.....it seems that it isn't just the banks who are guilty of mis-selling products!
  10. Earlier rather than later might be good for walkies.....I reckon that long line of heavy precipitation just to the west of Guernsey could have your name on it. Edit:- Not sure what's happened here....looks like England has been washed away!
  11. Rumble of thunder just now in North Hampshire! ....getting much darker....and the radar shot to our south-west looks to be promising and intensifying. Worried though about the amount of rain that we will get from these showers, combined with that forecast for tomorrow morning and Sunday. Already lots of standing water and full watercourses in this area.
  12. Ship stays but crew can shuttle in/out via flights to Falklands etc. Bro in law due back for a few weeks in early Feb
  13. Looks icy to me. My bro-in-law enjoying an early xmas lunch on the ice
  14. Your journey home will be faster ....aided by a decent tail wind. Take care with the rain/spray though!
  15. HERE COMES THE SNOW: It really IS going to be a WHITE CHRISTMAS claim forecasters Nathan is busy again.......Express readers will be readying their sledges and snow shovels. The Met Office issued a shock forecast tonight warning that plunging temperatures could trigger widespread snow on Christmas Day. The festive predictions prompted bookmakers to slash the odds of snow falling next Wednesday. And even former BBC weatherman Michael Fish declared confidently: “It WILL be a White Christmas.†http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/449815/Snow-warning-Winter-2013-will-see-a-White-Christmas-across-UK-says-shock-weather-forecast?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+daily-express-uk-news+(Daily+Express+%3A%3A+UK+Feed)
  16. Yes ...Australia looking hot for Christmas http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/dec/18/christmas-day-weather-its-beginning-to-look-a-lot-like-a-heatwave Meanwhile, looks like most of NZ will be dodging the showers. New Zealanders should prepare for the weather to be a mixed bag for Christmas, MetService says. MetService's Dan Corbett says the weather is looking good into this weekend, but said a "weakish weather system" is coming across the Tasman Sea ahead of Christmas Day. "It looks like Christmas Eve it could unfortunately bring a bit of damp weather to the West Coast, which then Christmas Day could spell out some showers, not widespread rain where we are sitting inside for three days with our board games, but just if people plan for a little bit of damp weather over that Christmas period I think we'll probably be ok." He said it is an open system so it is moving quickly, and said it will still be warm for Christmas. "I wouldn't be surprised if many places once you get into some sunnier skies you'll be well into the twenties. "You can probably take a picture of Santa he'll come with his board shorts but more than likely in the back of his sleigh there might be a raincoat just in case."
  17. So as the surge heads south am I right in thinking that it will increase in height as it is funnelled into the much narrower sea areas like the thames estuary?
  18. 10 Worst British Winters ever. I fully expect to see 2013/14 knocking the winter of 1684 from top spot next year !!...... based on Daily Drivel forecasts http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/the-10-worst-british-winters-ever-8945584.html
  19. Owls are the way to go according to Waterstones "Although each delivery will cost only £2.75, the Ornithological Waterstones Landing Service (or OWLS), will also not be available immediately, as ‘it takes ages to train owls to do anything and we only just thought of it this morning". http://metro.co.uk/2013/12/02/waterstones-hits-back-at-amazon-drones-with-totally-real-owl-delivery-service-4210431/
  20. Wow......this is quite exciting!!! I just hope it doesn't prove to be a phantom easterly type disappointment.......and some clear skies would be nice as well
  21. Yes Mark, this made me smile this morning, but as you say to be taken with a very large pinch of salt!! Yet again GFS seems to be playing catch up with some of the other models re this upcoming cold/cool spell and is throwing lots of different solutions out at the moment.
  22. Hard to believe ...but pressure at M6 has dropped 8mb between 9 and 11pm ...now 987.1
  23. The 997 and 1002 lows are very close together. Any idea what impact this has on the way that they develop?
  24. You probably come through Bramley (between Basingstoke and Reading)... I get to watch plenty of freight coming through as I sit at the level crossing!...I'll give you a wave next time.
  25. Plenty of trees down around here and I appreciate on some lines. What really hacks me off is the poor and often conflicting information available from the various operators... and why do they need to be running an "emergency timetable" this evening??.....a bit of organisation and co-ordination and they could have a decent service running this afternoon.
