  1. Probably the best we shall do this winter but there is a definite winteryness mixed in with the rain and plenty of small icy splodges hitting the windows. 6.7c here but feels very much colder.I've put the heating on as well as my big chunky cardigan.
  2. Thunder and lightening first thing this morning. I drove my son 5 miles to another village where he catches his bus for college and we hit a hail storm. My word that came down, could barely see where I was going. Bit too scary for my liking. Sun is out now and looking rather pleasant.
  3. A few flashes and cracks of thunder and another downpour. No light showers today. Had a nice hail shower earlier but luckily not like the other day. Its currently 7.2c but feels chillier but maybe its just me.
  4. My moat is back around the house again, we have put pallets out to walk on. We too have leaks but ours are from 2 windows at the front of the house, we currently have the window sills covered in bowls and pans. Awful working in the rain this morning, I had to peal my clothes off to get in the shower when I got in, absolutely drenched.
  5. Video of the huge hail this morning. Hopefully it runs better for others then it does on my laptop.
  6. http://www.westerngazette.co.uk/Weird-weather-conditions-batter-Castle-Cary/story-20396606-detail/story.html Glad I was indoors at the time. I have some video footage on my phone of the huge hail coming down and bouncing around the garden, I'll try and get it uploaded later.
  7. I'm the other side of the A37 and can vouch for that. The hailstones weren't much smaller than golf balls. They were hitting the ground and bouncing about 5-6ft in the air. I took a couple of pics on my phone, one of which Ian Fergie has re-tweeted. Saw the most beautiful bright rainbow earlier as well.
  8. hello, haven't been on the board for a while as have had difficult stuff going on but hopefully will be able to get back into weather watching again. Happy new year to you all. We had flashes and rumbles earlier and had a sudden loud crack and our phone rang twice! I'm assuming one of the poles on the track to our house was hit, it happened a few years back. My prediction of a good summer came right and I was a happy bunny. I did say I would put up with the lack of spring warmth if I could have a good summer, myself and the wildlife benefited from it. Hope 2014 is a good one for you and hopefully i will be able to get on the board more often now.
  9. I feel like I'm clinging onto the sunny warm weather by my finger-tips. Just adored this summer, don't want it to end.
  10. A couple of distant flashes and rumbles. There can't of been many places that missed out on the storms going by accounts on here and elsewhere. I had my long desired heat wave so I'm a happy bunny
  11. I haven't left my village but I missed out on all the thunder activity too
  12. Getting plenty of rain, it chucked it down earlier but nothing else. We are right on the edge of the system. Skies look stormy but nothing so far.
  13. But at least you have got to see some storms this week AJ. They skirt by us every time by a matter of a few miles, haven't had a proper storm for about 8 years.
  14. I bet if a map of the west country was marked with all the storms in the past week or so you would see a small hole in the middle of Somerset.
  15. My friend and her family left at lunchtime for Cornwall for a weeks holiday. Not sure she is going to like what she has driven into looking at the radar its been a glorious day here apart from the wind.
  16. I think this picture captures my day weather-wise perfectly. Stood in the sunshine watching the thunder clouds pass by to the north.
  17. Our storm shield works so well I managed to get my washing dry! Just a couple of heavy showers here with 3 flashes and 3 distant rumbles.
  18. When storms are around everyone keeps away from me as I seem to attract lightening! Lightening struck a lamp-post in venice about 15ft away from myself when i was 11, lightening hit the road about 10ft in front of me when I was 15 and I was indirectly hit in 2005. Must be a genetic thing as my great, great gran was killed by lightening.
  19. Can hear rumbles to my southwest. looks like it is heading for us rather than skirting around and heading for Bristol, we shall see. Haven't had a decent storm here for years, probably 2005.
  20. I've been watching the line of thundery showers on the radar and for the 2nd time in a week I am a matter of miles outside of it. The skies look grey to the north/nw of me. Its sunny and blustery here so i've hung the washing out
  21. Just lightish rain showers here so far (one at the moment) but looks like heavier stuff to come. Glad I did some gardening jobs earlier.
  22. I was awoken at 3.40am by my 18 year old son acting like an excited 5 year old on Christmas morning. He wanted to show me a lightning show. We stood on the landing looking north/ne and watched flashes every second and the occasional fork lightning. I didn't realise that it was the first proper lightning that he had seen at night. But that was it here. No rain or rumbles but just lightning miles away. I checked the radar and we were about 5 miles east of that band that moved up through Somerset. I was hoping for clearer air today but it is still hideously humid
