  1. Yes there is a moderate to heavy shower here at the moment and it has covered all surfaces in snow. A bit unexpected but nice to see.
  2. Interestingly this is the (at least) fourth GFS op run in a row to show snow here on Monday morning:
  3. Another rather cold run for northern parts. A strong trend from midweek now.
  4. I would guess there has been a couple of cm overnight and roads will range from mostly clear on the main routes to snow covered in the side roads. My road is completely white, although to be fair it has been completely covered since Monday. At least it smooths out the potholes for the moment!
  5. I suspect that when the wind switches more northerly later this afternoon there could be quite a few showers this evening and tonight , but I could very easily be wrong (and they may stay further north).
  6. Drifting up, falling down and blowing horizontally all in a wonderfully choreographed murmuration of wintry beauty. (Yes I love the snow.)
  7. Yes the showers seem to be a bit more frequent now and everything is looking nice and white. Hopefully you will get some more soon.
  8. There haven’t been that many showers here today but what has fallen is settling here and the wind is now picking up in the showers too. It’s beginning to feel a lot like winter.
  9. Give it a few hours as the really cold air is heading south through the rest of the day. No guarantees about precipitation falling but what does will be snow.
  10. To describe this weather as a toppler is misleading and sounds like “everything that comes from the north that doesn’t give me snow” is a “toppler”. The synoptics show a bitterly cold Arctic/polar flow and not something casually dismissed as a toppler even if large parts of the country do not see snow.
  11. The colder air is moving in from the north currently and this shows up nicely on the precipitation type radar with more evidence of wintriness. The models tend to be a bit rubbish at modelling convective precipitation, understandably due to its nature, so it’s tricky to work out what is incoming much in advance. I would be hopeful of seeing snow here today in Aberdeen but how much and when is a different matter! I just hope the westerly component doesn’t kill off too much of the precipitation before it gets here.
  12. No don’t ignore it. Just accept that it is different to majority of the rest of the outcome.
  13. I was looking at that too and was wondering if perhaps the road is currently blocked.
  14. Parts of Glenesk (Angus) have had over 100mm in the 12hr to 8pm. With probably the same or more in the next 12 hours it will be problematic.
  15. It will only be the low lying areas not the entire town as being (mis)reported. The area around River St and low lying areas near the South Esk river.
  16. Oh no, sorry to hear that. This storm is definitely packing a punch.
  17. Very windy here too in Aberdeen and impressively mild at 13.6°C currently.
  18. And unsurprisingly every flake is sticking. Watching the gentle snow come down steadily is almost therapeutic as it refreshes any discoloured areas. I would say “covers any bare surfaces” but that doesn’t apply as everything is still covered in a blanket of snow.
  19. I would rather this one moved westwards. The forecast for here (and the automated output) look good for snow later on, but we’ll see.
  20. I saw a large flock of geese flying south over here this morning. Do they know something that we don’t or have they escaped from Altnaharra?
  21. Heavy graupel has turned into heavy snow here now Aberdeen. I had cleared my path earlier, it has now disappeared.
  22. I am hoping that some of the more “generous” models prove to be on the money over the coming hours. Several of them have quite a bit of snow down the eastern coastal strip by this evening but there is limited agreement.
