Looks like the Met Office have the day's highest zone spot on. We've now got a raft of 39's up the north-east from Cambridge to close to Newcastle and across to Nottingham.
At least one of those 39's is likely to push above 40C I think, perhaps higher.
Yep, 39c in Nottingham, could possibly squeeze 40c in the next hour.
Before yesterday record was 36.1c, so broken on both days and smashed it today!

29.5c here now, shot up 5c in an hour! Indoor temps upstairs did not get below 28.6 last night and now up to 29.6. Going to be a very rough night to sleep tonight.
If cloud cover is limited then I can easily see 40c in Notts by 3pm

It was 17c at 6am when I got up, just taken my son to pre-school and now 22c at 7.50 already. I left all windows on the latch last night and temps only dropped by 1c indoors and now at 26c. Going to be a tough few days as working at home with no aircon.
-
Currently 22.5c downstairs and about 23.5 upstairs.
Willl be interesting to see people's temps on Mon or Tuesday. I'm guess many people will see indoor temps in the 40s....scary prospect!
Bought 2 new fans at half price at the start of the month as soon as I saw this plume on the GFS. Will be making loads of ice lollies to keep my soon cool!

Just looking at the GEFS 6z, taking the midlands as an example, there are 11 out of the 30 that at some point get the 850s down below -10, indicating that the high has a decent chance of a move in to a favorable position to advect cold from the north/east within the next 2 weeks.
Still all to play for! Its like the weather lotto, hoping that the Op will at some time match one of the winning (cold and snowy) ensemble clusters. Lets hope it will happen soon, otherwise it will end up as a must be won (boom or bust) moment, where we hit the jackpot or the prize is cascaded down and we end up with nothing to shout about (a sinking high).

It looks set in. A throw back to the pre Jan snow events of the past. Well Autumn finally delivers something interesting!

Just started snowing moderately in Nottingham, sticking straight away. Looks like there could be a couple of hours of snowfall in it. Was not sure this morning it would get this far east, then next thing I know there is a yellow snow warning!
Just goes to show in these set ups snow can pop up anywhere at short notice. Hopefully this is the appetiser for whats in store next month.

Its funny isn't it how there has been a chase for cold 850's all winter, yet here we are with them now but talking about thaws rather than freezing. Just goes to show how important the source of air is to sustain cold and lying snow.
Looking at the GEFs, the potential breakdown looks relatively lacking in precipitation (whether it be rain/sleet/snow) across the board in my area. So not sure the cold spell will go out with a bang, more a slow transition in to spring like conditions perhaps?
The 2m temps shows a mixed bag. but more double digit temps starting to creep in over the last few runs. The GEFS 6z show me with either 11 degrees on Monday, or remaining sub zero. Once again the slight directional changes of air will make a big difference to next week.
In the mean time, I've given up on snow for me for the rest of the week, but look forward to some cold frosty mornings, and spectacular sunrises.

This is what I must have seen in the distance earlier this morning out of my bedroom window. On clear mornings I can see for miles out to the south east, and saw a stream of precipitous laden clouds in the distance. I hope it is as good as it looked from afar!

Looks like I am still just a tad too north. A light dusting around 8-9pm last night but then nothing since. Looks like others that did not get any snow yesterday are starting to get in the game, which is good to see. @sheikhy's Winterwonderland is still booming I see!

You can see on raintoday the eastern area of that streamer is going further south into east anglia and the area over leicester is slowly lifting north!!could bring more of the midlands into play later!!
Hopefully! Streamers to the North of me, streamers to the south of me. Here I am, stuck in the middle...
On the plus side for me, the melt has stopped and any light flurries are sticking. Got a new dusting on the road again. Hopefully this can build up overnight to a couple of cms

Still more fun left for the eastern side of the midlands and throughout tomorrow and early wednesday!!
Yep, MO now have me down for 90% chance of heavy snow between now and 8pm. Can't see it on the radar yet for me but looks like there will be a continuous feed in land through to tomorrow. Most places should get a coating

Got off to a good start this morning, but didn't last too long. It's thawing out as though we are at the end of the cold spell. I think the best possibility for those not under the streamer is after 5pm when temps drop below freezing and the sun is down. Showers should continue and accumulate better on the ground.

Snow is melting here. It stuck around longer in December when I had less snow depth, higher due points and +10c warmer 850s

That ties in with Met Office showing 80% chance of heavy snow in Notts between 2-4pm. Looks a wider area can get in the game this afternoon/evening

Problem is that it is going for, on average a 50% chance of snow showers between 1-5pm. So toss a coin, you may get lucky with a heavy snow shower at some point in the next 5 hours. With these app forecasts, for me anything over 66% I would take as a decent chance of occurring, with over 75% being probable.
Beeb is going for 99% chance of heavy snow showers over me, and now we have a heavy snow shower! Earlier this morning the % was much less, and we had light snow grains.

Amber warning. Im not even sure if any warning is required atm
Warnings these days:
Yellow warning = I can still see through my car window
Amber warning = Ok, I may need to use my wipers to knock off the snow
Red warning = Ok, Wipers are no good, I need to use a brush or scraper
Wheels slightly spinning when getting off the drive way = the world is going to implode

Gutted! Stopped now. Looks like I just miss out on the streamer that is heading for Leicester. I think the amber warning over me needs to be moved further south for you guys there! Enjoy - see I wasn't being greedy
-
After small snow grains over the last hour, intensity has picked up and flakes much larger. This is looking more promising!! Looks like there is plenty more to come off the coast for the rest of the day too. Hopefully many more areas will see the action - I don't want to be greedy

Snow picking up here now and the sky looks full of precipitation - visibility looks to be quite reduced. 5-10cm looks likely today

Watnall (Nottingham) recorded 39.8c, 3.7c above the previous record before this spell. Absolutely unbelieve to think it could be 15c lower tomorrow but still be above average.
If this is the future then there needs to be a change in infrastructure. New homes need to have aircon as standard as its too bloomin hot!
