  1. http://www.geomag.bgs.ac.uk/data_service/space_weather/alerts/alert_2017-07-16.html Aurora alert for 16th July.
  2. Hope the camera body is all in good working order, knocker. My many dopey moments with the camera include failing to remove the lens cap before attempting to shoot - and becoming quite cross with the black viewfinder - before the penny drops.
  3. Can't see anything to suggest it's not a Grey, knocker. Maybe it is a sub-adult or a variant with a grey head ?
  4. If you are considering upgrading your camera there are lens compatibility chart online.
  5. She is, and the good news today was that there is no sign of local or distant recurrence of her problem. Hopefully your camera problem proves to be no more than a minor glitch, knocker.
  6. Maybe you are just observing the increasing number of fledged swallows, CR. Having said that, the first nest at home here has failed. However the adults are starting on their second attempt - not flying south yet.
  7. Destination Dunbar today after dropping off doggie for her final treatment at the vet in Edinburgh. Dunbar Castle and the Kittiwake colony A charming harbour seal.
  8. Hope husband is feeling better now, mardatha, and that at least we shall get some warmish weather later. I was down the E Lothian coast today and while the weather could not be described as High Summer, it was pleasant enough, (if you had a woolly on).
  9. I remember, just, at school, the partial eclipse of 1959. We were ushered outside equipped with a cardboard rectangle with two eye-hole filters and stern warnings not to look directly at the sun. Tbh, I think I was a wee bit disappointed at the time, but the experience made me curious.
  10. Well, I have a postage-stamp's worth of blue sky here. Feels quite pleasant out-of-doors, though, and hope it stays like that as I'm on my way to celebrate my wee-est boy's 3rd birthday.
  11. Grey skies, but dry with a northerly blow. Temp 13C, but feels less nippy than of late. I'm debating with myself whether or not to risk hanging washing outside - numerous puddles are actually drying up.

  13. A few pics, mainly for ID purposes, from yesterday’s walk along Loch Lee in the freezing cold! Wild Orchid ? Common Spotted Common Sandpiper pair ? Juvenile Wheatear Pipit ? Tree or Meadow Distant photo which had me stumped, but I now think Raven. I stopped off on the way back at the Sand martin quarry. Quite a few nest-holes are active now and I heard chicks begging, but no photos of the adults – yet. Can't delete duplicate
  14. Chilly, mostly grey skies,12C and a NE breeze, but I see a blink of sun at the mo and so I'm off for a walk. Still trying to shake off extreme lethargy and fatigue following a nasty bug.
  15. Checking back old photos - 2008 - part of a camping hol.
  16. A few years back, I paid a day visit to Eig and Muck, leaving from Arisaig. It was a gorgeous sail and great weather. Rum was not on the itinerary as it did have quite protected and restricted access, I believe. Is you visit purely recreational?
  17. I was thinking earlier that I had not seen many of these recently. A welcome garden visitor, he was this evening .
  18. Similar weather here, yesterday. Dog and I went for a recuperative (from flu) walk yesterday afternoon along the Backwater reservoir. Weather similar but a shade cooler today. Not relishing what might be in store next week.
  19. Re Frosty's post on the MOD thread - I can't vouch for all Scotland but, my area has experienced a good few days of warm and pleasant summery weather - just how I like it.
  20. A short time ago, on way home from Montrose, Temp 14C, sky black as sin and a couple of heavy rain showers.
  21. Four chicks appear to be thriving. I originally thought there were just four in the nest, but found a fifth on the deck yesterday morning. It looked pretty poorly, but I put it back in the nest anyway. It has been turfed out again and maybe so deliberately because of illness or failure to thrive?
  22. Cloudy with a westerly breeze. Temp 14C and feeling rather cool. Not seen any butterflies recently, let alone the white variety, but as mentioned previously somewhere on the forum, I have given up on attempting to grow brassicas. Noticed this morning what may have been a touch of blight on my one outdoor tomato plant of the mini tumbling variety - potatoes look OK, so far.
