Prediction for tonight.. an amazing storm kicks off around 7.45, gets closer and cuts out the sky box at work (bar supervisor) just in time for sterling to score the winning goal for england, storm passes and the match is all over, and the major party will commence till closing time... then I get a soaking on my midnight walk home

Darker clouds arriving now and looking at the radar the first few flurries. Convection is shallow at the moment so a “blowing in the wind” job at the moment. However as thicknesses fall and 850s drop a little these should become heavier.
Heya hope ur well, what kinda timescale are we thinking for thickness and 850s to fall? Showers coming off the wash starting to lift my spirits here, fingers crossed a streamer will form and turn heavy xx

Some of the charts posted up earlier by Surrey seemed to indicate one might setup so fingers crossed for you. Will all depend on the wind direction and too early to know for sure at this stage.
Heres hoping, think it's the only way precip will reach here.. never know might turn to snow earlier overnight and give us a cm or 2 out of that 1st band haha #strawclutching...

Does anyone think there might be a wash streamer set up?? Usually we can do really well from these type of events here in Peterborough.. heres hoping

Hello all, really starting to get worried for us here in peterborough, think we might be just a bit too far north and west shouldn't be down thou as had a couple of cms 2 weeks ago.. just looks like such a good set up to be missing out on.. oh well fingers crossed something changes for us here, but wow to everyone else in the area, about time the south east and east Anglia were the area to get buried . had a look in the MAD thread earlier and the way some in the Midlands were complaining about 'us' getting the snow and how bad it was that it wouldn't reach them had me so so close to giving them a mouthful Haha I mean think of how lucky theyve all been for some time now... so so glad I try to stay outta there, I mean hey it hasnt even snowed yet and they're looking for the breakdown words fail me they really do... hope everyone is keeping well, and good luck to all in the coming days, some of you are gonna get totally buried xx

Yes Peterborough looks like it has been in a great location today (far enough west) Benefited from the front stalling right over top when you then look at radar loop of past few hours. Compare to Cambridge and say Colchester that got weaker PPN on Eastern side.
It certainly has, it's been a lovely day and the size of the snowflakes, wow dont actually think I've ever seen them that big, something was really different today that's for sure xx

I dont think peterborough has ever been so so unlucky, snow has been north south east and west so far this winter, a few days ago a very good band came right above us, turned to rain a few miles west, then after it passed turned back to snow.. icon has us in a very good area for today but tbh I cant see it happening.. really am hoping something makes it here but chances are slim, for whoever's gets lucky today get some pics for us and totally enjoy it, us all in this area deserve it (blow some this way if possible please thou haha) xx

Proper snow here, lovely big flakes woohoo.. time to enjoy it in the hot tub with an ice cold beer

Just the other side of Peterborough, which seems counter intuitive given the snow line is moving south. The intensity looks good still so if it turns to snow in the next hour then hopefully we can see at least a dusting at low levels.
Heres hoping, looks like were in a potentially good area, well 1 eye on the radar the other out on the sky I guess Haha good luck

^ Saturday looks like a snow to rain event, unfortunately the front looks like pushing quickly through the U.K. as opposed to stalling, which was an option proposed yesterday.
The rain here is turning to sleet now, can see the greens and pinks of the radar getting closer.Hey hope ur well, Where abouts are u, I'm near the city hospital and still rain here, fingers crossed it turns soon, radar looks like it's getting closer

Hello, I would be grateful if somone could provide their view on snow chances for tomorrow / Thursday? I live 10 miles north of Peterborough and I have seen a couple of posts hinting that Peterborough could get some now? Met Office app showing cold rain for two days!
Yeah I'm wondering too plz, also in peterborough and app now says 100% chance of snow for tomorro and thursday, just doesn't match up any other forecasts I've seen, has anything changed?

I feel so so sorry for anyone new in here trying to learn, some will just be here hoping to find an insight of what the weather is doing, those who cant yet read models etc.. luckily ivebeen watching models and weather pattens since the good old days of the bbc forum what a place.. I have to say in the past few weeks this place is more depressing than the local shrinks office.. stop taking every run as gospel, snowmageddon, 62/63 type winter, colder than the north pole, then all of a sudden it's nearly spring, winter is off, let's wait till next year, then wow snowmageddon seriously, take a break and enjoy the current cold spell, we would have been dreaming for these synoptics last year, some of u dont know when u have got a good thing right in front of you... personally I wont be leaving as I know how to stay level headed.. but my word theres a lot of people I'm ignoring..
For all you newbies, weather watching is very much like a rollercoaster, but this is the 1st year I've ever seen mr bean take over the controls. Hang on in there, ignore all the o.t.t posts and enjoy the current pattern, it really is exciting.. good things are to come I feel
Happy new year to you all..

Seriously, can't we just have model discussion in here?? All of u writing off winter on the 11th dec make me laugh.. yes we want snow, yes we want cold and yes we want a white xmas but were a tiny island mostly influenced by the Atlantic.. most years we struggle to get a dusting of the elusive white stuff, if it happens it happens, most of the time these things 'pop up' within a very small timeframe and even the best forecasters get taken aback by how fast they show up and then become reality.. personally I love watching possibilities out in fl but seriously how often do they come true.. I'd rather be here to learn, observe and see if it happens, but slashing wrists over 1 run, calling off winter in the 2nd week of december??? I think some of u need a long lay down with a few bevvys and some off screen time...
Sorry for being a mardy fart...
Please get back to the models... sorry for being off topic

Are we expecting any of this heavy rain to 're electrify later on? Everywhere I've read seems to believe in overnight storms x
