  1. Yes it's great for any snow around! Before moving here I lived in Yorkshire at 300m and Shaftesbury comes a close second, but with much better summers!!
  2. Reached the dizzy heights of 0°c, frost on cars but still a strong wind with a high windchill. Off to Cornwall for few days in the warm!!
  3. Not posted for a while but with colder weather now here it's a good time! Currently 2.6°c with a gusty wind, if anything falls it's likely to be white rather than wet, hopefully, at my height of 217m. Main thing is that at least the floods won't get worse!!
  4. Still quite a bit of lying snow, foggy and drizzling, temperature 0.6c don't think we will get anymore but won't stop me lamp post watching! Most snow for at least 4 years
  5. Winter wonderland here in Shaftesbury with around 8cms level on the dustbin and on the windows, currently -0.1c snowing lightly and windy. Great start to the day
  6. Hi everyone, been a while since I posted but we had the first real snow this morning and currently temperature has fallen to 4c and thinking at the moment that we will see some more here in Shaftesbury where the height of 220m asl will help. No point in watching forecasts or the models as all too close to call, window model is the best!! Been lucky this year to have seen the Northern Lights, the permanent night of an arctic day in temperature that was -32 on the coldest day. Don't think we will get that in Dorset!!
  7. Just returned from a week in Abisko and Kiruna, northern Sweden. Beautiful snow and mountains plus the famous Aurora lights! Temperature varied from -5 to -15 during the day in Abisko and -10 to -20 at night. Kiruna, home to the Ice Hotel was -32 on Sunday with 15cms of snow overnight. That's my snow fix for the next 10 years at least! Just outside the polar night but strange being in light but with no shadows
  8. Temperature 3.6c, hazy with pockets of frost left in the fields. More of a breeze this morning which made it chilly out of the sun. Beautiful morning's dog walk, heard a least 2 woodpeckers and had close contact with a couple of buzzards (Ice thinks he can fly). Looking set, dry and ok for the week.
  9. First post for a week as not a lot to say! Rain has been wet, wind has been very windy at times and the temperature has been consistent mild mush the whole week. In short boring and not used friendly at all. This morning's dog walk was very wet underfoot, bog like at times, mild, rain in the air with a cloud base around 900'. Current temperature 9c, ugh
  10. Totally different walk this morning, still chilly at 1.6c with a cold wind, ground still frozen but the driving horizontal drizzle was most unwelcome. I fear it will be the norm for sometime to come. Happier with a dry, mild period but not relentless rain please!
  11. Light and powdery and starting to stick on all surfaces, being blown around in the wind. Temperature -0.3 still. Pleasant surprise just need a few more hours please!
  12. Cadbury update. Eaten and really nice and fattening. Also can confirm actual white stuff falling from the sky!
  13. Still -0.6c and patiently waiting for my flake - could be a while! Great pics and videos from Ireland, if only!
  14. Took our dog Ice, for his usual walk, -1.9c with a high wind chill. Ground frozen rock hard with patches of snow still laying. Saw a deer and heard a woodpecker as well. If the precipitation makes it this far it will be snow! The last of the winter?
  15. Cold but beautiful sunny day, temperature now down to -0.5c. Can't see much in the way of snow tomorrow and looking ahead, as Mr Betts would say - at least it will be mild!
  16. Cloudy, high wind chill and temperature currently -0.8c, ground and bits of snow frozen hard. Maybe some white stuff on Saturday before a warm up but if it's mostly dry that will do for me as at least the floods can dry up!
  17. Cold and dry overnight, temperature -4.2c which could turn out to be the coldest of the winter, hope not!
  18. Still snow left on the ground and current temperature -0.7c. I haven't any technical knowledge except having lived through some great cold spells from the 70's on cold highs are very difficult to budge and often come back with a vengeance after relaxing for a short period of time. The continent is very cold and likely to stay like this for sometime and even a slack southeasterly will be cold. I feel we are not done yet with the cold but will have to go through a short period of average temperatures first.
  19. Morning from a very cold and slightly white shaftesbury. Overnight low of-2.5c with another hard frost. Light snow shower of powdery, dry snow giving a light dusting but blown everywhere thanks to the wind. What will the weekend bring? Heart says snow but head says mild
  20. Currently -1.4 and somehow got the car up the drive through the still remaining 2.5cm drifts! Looking at European temps there is a lot of very cold air cl
  21. -2.9 this morning with very light snow falling. Ground frozen rock hard so perfect for settling snow, but I don't think we are in for any! Good to see some on the South coast have had some snow overnight. Models not looking great but Exeter still positive with the 4am update.
