  1. Look at this article http://uk.news.yahoo.com/uk-storm-britain-floods-weather-rain-waves-plymouth-cornwall-devon-130536630.html#d6e8MhS People putting their own kids at risk Totally Unbelievable !! Storm Waves Crashing over Sea Walls, not really something i would consider to be a playground Been having a break from the showers for a while. Awaiting the next lot of rain, later in the night
  2. The incoming tide is back up to the pebble ridge at Westwood Ho! I recorded a lot of video this afternoon. JCB Diggers attempting to do repair work to the sea defences I'll link to the playlist: Lots of rough ocean shots (up close) Right click in the video - copy video URL - paste into browser, and you'll see the playlist
  3. Yeah, the roar of the sea, can be heard, even from long distance There is a digger and bulldozer down on the pebble ridge now, trying to do some repair work before this evenings next big tide I hope to dodge the showers, and get out with my video cam soon
  4. Just took a quick video (still in processing) Flooding in the Burrows Waves over topping the sea wall This was one hour after high tide
  5. Just come back from Westwood Ho seafront Damage to sections of the sea wall. Sections just picked up by the waves and displaced Sections of the wall, that normally are not overtopped with waves Large pebbles thrown up onto the walkways Quite a crowd down there watching it, and i missed the peak of the high tide Been a while since i've seen the ocean that high... huge waves rolling in
  6. Aha, i have been beaten to it. May as well warn people more than once This article sounds rather dramatic, especially for the coasts of south-west England & Wales 'Exceptional weather' with rain, wind and high tides to hit UK http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25572390 Two Deaths down this way recently, in relation to people going into the Ocean So, yes i believe warnings of 'certain death' should be issued for these types of weather situations. There is no stopping people, if they risk their lives... but at least they were warned
  7. After a very wet day, little sign of any let up. Rain more showery now Bright echoes now showing up in south-west approaches. Some white on the radar down near the Channel Islands, and a lightning strike picked up - North-West France
  8. Sad to report this on New Year's Eve, but there has been another casualty Rough Seas, being whipped up by the recent weather Devon: Woman Dies After Being Swept Out To Seahttp://news.sky.com/story/1188913/devon-woman-dies-after-being-swept-out-to-sea Just down the road. Very sad to hear this
  9. Sadly, the conditions have claimed another life http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/NewsAppeals/Pages/NewsItem.aspx?Release=14883&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter The man died, entering a river to try to save his dog Tragic story, for Christmas Eve
  10. What a bizarre storm this is turning out to be The far south coast - south-east seemed to get hit hardest (furthest away from the low) Normally, you expect places nearer the center to get the worst of it I hope these storms do bugger off, so we can just focus on Christmas, and chill
  11. I'll quote Roger J Smith, those up north wondering where are these high winds !!
  12. Sky newsdesk (twitter) Dorset Fire Control: fire crews have rescued approximately 25 people from cars trapped in flood water in Dorset
  13. I can see two vicious looking 'hooks' on the image So two centres then
  14. Ahh, got beaten to it Check Met Office website, more updated warnings Amber wind now for Northern Ireland - and snow showers expected there as well Also, yellow wind warning now gone up for ALL of the Uk, for Friday (the next storm) Yes, must be a Manic Monday in the Met Office
  15. New Amber wind warnings now for parts of Scotland. On the Met Office site Also the Yellow wind warning extended to cover Northern England, and some central parts 80-90mph gusts for some places. In fact, i wouldn't be surprised to see 100mph topped with this one
  16. Be very careful around the coasts !! - There will be rogue waves Tweet from James Reynolds: --- Footage I shot shows dangers of rough surf (from Japan) near cliffs / shore, this man died cc @RNLI #UKstorm ---
  17. Isles of Scilly recent gust to 70mph Wow !! Explosive Cyclogenesis: when pressure falls by more than 24mb in 24hrs. Today's storm, it's dropping 60mb in 24hrs! What is today's Low called: Super Explosive Cyclogenesis This storm needs a name... this is historic !!
  18. Just had a 20 minute walk to the shop and back Running rivers by the side of the road, a lot of water running down the hill Drains already struggling Wind is howling through the telegraph wires I came back like a drowned rat, even though i wore a coat This beast hasn't even wound up yet. Off to dry off
  19. Scilly - St Marys Mean Speed - 41mph Gust - 51mph Rain band has now arrived - Westwood Ho - North Devon Wind speeds picking up, especially south coasts
  20. Constructive? No, but i've got today's daily express front page https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/414876976109715456/photo/1
  21. What !!, this is getting crazy crazy That chart above. Two centers at 935mb !! Never seen anything like it before I need to lay down
  22. The Low for later next week, may not be as deep, but it becomes slow moving and it hangs around for a long time That is bad too. Gale / Severe Gale going non-stop for many hours. Relentless One positive thing, as i struggle to find much positive about the days ahead. Neap Tides !! If these lows were coming with high spring tides... well it doesn't even bear thinking about There has been some big swells around already, but lows this deep, with the isobars closely packed, going to really whip up those seas. Oh yeah, the shipping forecast is going to make for interesting reading too
  23. When Hurricane Ike (Cat 2) was approaching the Texas coast, a bulletin was released warning people of certain death, if they ventured out into the storm Now, i'm not saying we need anything that dramatic, but it's important to get it right. The Uk is facing two intense lows that could break records. Get the word out and warn people They did it for the St Jude storm. I don't quite understand why no amber wind warnings yet, but i don't work there, i'm sure they know what they are doing
  24. It's a Sunday, we've got to give the apprentice person a chance to update the warnings
  25. Interesting update on Met Office site Yellow Snow warnings now gone up for Scotland Yellow wind warnings have gone, but i assume they are still updating right now
