  1. The Bay of Biscay is alive with lightning strikes once again, this morning
  2. i may have mentioned something about Scotland getting some storms today, earlier. A friggin MCS for north-east Scotland Met Office yellow warnings, and bizarre stuff about 'lightning' rather than 'storms'
  3. that line of storms formed out west, more than i expected. Some places will get thunder today. I expect they will end up, over Scotland somewhere
  4. It's really kicked off again, out west this evening.. all those yummy lightning strikes being wasted over the Atlantic ocean. Someone put a big fan out there, and blow them east a bit
  5. flamin typical, south-west got removed from all yellow thunderstorm warnings earlier in the week, but we do get a yellow wind warning. Yeah, it's going to be hot & windy, it's going to feel like a furnace in a fan oven
  6. Lightning strikes out to the south-west of the Uk, if they keep moving north, could be on track for S or SW parts of Republic of Ireland
  7. fisher-people in a boat may have more luck at the moment. storms have been going in the Bay of Biscay for several hours, and another load out to sea, west of Portugal. Storm-chasing in a fishing boat... could be a thing, for the future
  8. i remember them too, going back over the past. The real plume, had no trouble getting storms here. It was the 1980's, so no mobile phone video footage, but my long term memory is good. I remember some real crackers, daytime and night-time. I have memories of a couple times, when the thunder would be rumbling pretty much all night. Especially remember, seeing the movie 'alien' for the very first time, and a storm arrived from the south, during the movie, and by the end of the movie, there must have been strikes nearly overhead. The furniture in the house actually shook. Then the storm rumbled on for hours into the night. Maybe it was a 'thunder train' - where they line up
  9. storms got going about 1 hour earlier than expected yesterday evening, and kept back-building over France. Storms training up through the same area, maybe there was competing for energy going on. There was a long wait, for them to reach the coast, and start the journey across the Channel
  10. sferic's really getting going in N France now, so hope you enjoy what you get later In terms of the hatch, well nothing short of a flight would get me there, now
  11. humid night, so no sleep. well, i'd better get used to it sferics - storms seems to be slowly building down in Bay of Biscay... always a good sign
  12. little bit of lightning activity firing up over NW Spain. Is this the beginning of the much discussed Plume. C'mon Plume, i'm sick of looking at that lightning chart showing all the strikes over into eastern Europe edit: as i type more strikes showing up further north into Bay of Biscay.. we could have lift off !!
  13. Grab a hold of some of those posting in the MAD thread. They can't believe a flow from the north-sea would suppress temperatures. You only have to go back 12 months. In the E to NE flow, the west got the 30+c heat - 18c on east coasts When the wind switches back to SW-W or NW - the east will become hottest. It happened just last year !! The Uk is a friggin Island !!
  14. for me, it's been whittled down to this: storm risk is all but gone - just Thursday and Friday - (two hot days) Saturday back to 18c, as the winds shift back to W-SW Two Hot Days... with a No Thunder breakdown Hmmm, that could have gone better
  15. and they removed the yellow warning for today, for the north of England, and north wales. south-west not under any warnings any longer
  16. if you want an idea of the cooler effect of a NE or E wind for the East coast, check out the expected conditions on the East Coast for those people wanting to escape the heatwave.. i'm seeing values of only 17 to 19c, a breeze off the North Sea, so the feel like temperature is really quite pleasant. Check out Great Yarmouth, Norfolk for example
  17. maybe i'm missing something, but i remember classic Spanish plumes of the past. You first see all the storms breaking out down in Spain. Then, Bay of Biscay and western France, and they move north. Well, right now, not even a peep of one lightning strike in any of those areas I guess, we are focused on brewing stuff of our own
  18. i am jaffa cakesed, happens every friggin time. Now, it's storm downgrades. South-west only has a yellow warning left for Tuesday, but when you read the text, it's basically: elevated storms from France overnight, if you're lucky.. later during the day, only a small chance of further storms developing but most places will miss them. if no risk of storms, i don't want the heat. I will jaffa cakes off to some place with A/C until this crap is over
  19. i personally do not think that Heathrow should be used for temperature records. reason? so much tarmac, and even more when the new runway is built, literally hundreds of flights per day. Big aircraft, and big engines, generate a lot of heat. Surely, the temperature recorded there is being artificially altered (upwards) Not surprising that nearly ever summer, it's Heathrow that records the highest temps, in the London area
  20. cor blimey, some contrasts are coming. Some places could get as low as 2c tonight under clear skies (so, a ground frost for some) then, the met office outlook for early next week, the text forecast mentions the risk of severe storms breaking out. into, the oven, we go (soon)
  21. the 'very unusual for the Uk' comment is interesting, i notice all three days of yellow warnings, the tick is down bottom, so a lot of places probably escaping the worst, but plenty of time for the warnings to change, or get upgraded... or downgraded (but i think some kind of warm-up will happen by now)
  22. the downgrades begun. maybe garden path time, to be honest, when charts are showing virtually impossible figures (eg dewpoints 24 to 27c) then it's time to get sceptical. Is this the summer version of what happened back in February, remember, the day after tomorrow charts (most of the Uk, would get buried) that never happened
  23. feeling pleasantly cool first thing this morning, last chance to enjoy all that, for a while
  24. i had a trip into the mad thread. Dewpoints of 23 and 24c projected for next Wednesday - i had to leave again, very quickly Even Tornado Alley doesn't see Dewpoints that high during Tornado outbreaks. Holy Smokes
  25. totally confused, the local ITV weather just said sunny and warm over the next few days. met office don't agree, their website is showing cloudy and cool. max is only 12c on Friday and 13c on Saturday, maybe the sun returns next week. Someone will end up with egg on their face
