  1. to me this isn't rocket science. Deep Low passes just to the North of Scotland, strongest of the wind is normally on the southern Flank, so central belt / South Scotland. If a deep low was crossing the centre of Ireland, and across Northern England, then i'd expect the south coast to get the highest winds. Unless they are seeing something different this time.. the current warnings leave me perplexed
  2. i can confirm the trains from Glasgow to Oban are all cancelled on Sunday and at least the first half of Monday. Reasons given on ScotRail website, was due to severe weather Only a yellow warning, currently there. Surely, there is Amber incoming
  3. If this is rapidly turning into a non-event... Friggin ScotRail have the Glasgow to Oban trains already cancelled through all of Sunday, and into Monday as well,
  4. Met Office Yellow Warning, if you look at the impact matrix graphic, the tick is down the bottom, next to 'unlikely' They are playing it safe with the blanket warning, and then refine the warning later on, expect some areas to be removed from the warning, but maybe an amber upgrade for other areas
  5. not overlooking. very high spring tides due next week
  6. i booked a trip up to NW Uk - even if these deep lows go Pete Tong... well i was looking forward to a vacation anyways
  7. just watched David B (spotlight weather) - not very hopeful... maybe some wintry showers above 150-200m greatest risk overnight and tomorrow morning... back up to 12c by end of the week
  8. just peeked into the model thread. Steve Murr has officially given up on this winter... on Jan 5th Dear o Dear
  9. Shame on David Braine for using the 'at least it will be mild' expression. I know he's a mild ramper, but in the run up to Christmas, people would like to see something seasonal. Under wind & rain, it won't feel so mild anyways, windchill. But he seems to think that people will take some comfort... ohh it's going to be horrible, but at least it won't be cold
  10. for those people saying it won't be anything special. Westward Ho! predicted wind speeds - mean speeds into the 40's mph and gusting to low 70's - Devon & Cornwall at least... batten down the hatches !! (early hours of Monday morning for the worst of it) - I'm sure glad, my roof got re done
  11. stripeyfox - yes, same, for a long time, always having to go up there and check every time it rains This low is really taking shape.. i took a look at the Sat image, it looks vicious already. A deep band of convection, and sferics already showing up
  12. Could be a serious one, and they are only half done with my roof. Boardmasters: Weather safety fears cancel music festival https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-49259812
  13. For Uk Storm Chasers, the song of choice should now be: Donald where's ya trousers !! Nearly all the friggin storms this year, have been up in Bonnie Scotland
  14. great, got builders half way through re-doing my roof, and we're going to get heavy showers / storms and strong winds
  15. Nope, you gotta be careful with that, false readings, Blitz has a more realistic graphic of lightning strikes. Far south-east corner, and if the rest in the channel dies, the only option left, is home-grown. The CAP is very strong
  16. if they survive the trip across the channel, it's all eyes on Bognor !!
  17. someone said it'll start just after 9pm - and boom - something is lighting up in the channel, unless it's false readings
  18. guess a lot of people in the Uk, won't be sleeping tonight, unless they have A/C would be nice to think that heat and humidity is all you need, but ingredients need to come together to make storms. Not sure about this, not looking as good as it did 24 hours ago
  19. whatever was in the channel seems to have died, in terms of lightning strikes.. maybe it comes back to life. Not really seeing a lot happening, but maybe stuff will kick off during the evening
  20. Yes, but reading the full text of the forecast: "Thunderstorms will become more widespread, with the risk of hail, gust winds and some heavy rain bursts. Becoming drier later, but low cloud will roll in from the west." i think they will put up warnings this morning
  21. really bizarre, latest Met Office text forecast for south-west england, risk of storms by late afternoon, becoming more widespread tonight, and yet... no warnings !! - not even a yellow
  22. guys, read PJB's post on ukww - posted latest convective outlook. upgrade, and pink box !! - this really has potential to be something, and nothing currently from Met O
  23. Met Office currently playing down any storm chances, and no warnings, i'm having my roof re-done at the moment, i have some large holes in my roof - i'm going to be jaffa cakesed, if those storms turn up
  24. Met Office playing down storm chances at the moment, no warnings at all, after the yellow rain for West Scotland today South-west local forecast is only passing mention of an isolated storm... but looking in the storm convective thread, it seems there is a good chance
