  1. Very interesting final discussion from NHC on ex-Kate Shows increasingly powerful non-tropical low in the north-east atlantic, but they are not sure if that is ex-Kate, or the Low it merges with http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCDAT2+shtml/120847.shtml?
  2. one crumb of comfort, those 200mph winds are a narrow band near the eye. it's 75 to 200mph winds within that narrow band. People about 40 miles from the core, will probably only get tropical storm conditions It'll be real bad in that core though
  3. I'm not sure it was me, but i did suggest Gertrude to them via Twitter Let's hope it doesn't blow too many plant pots over
  4. this made me laugh track for the ex-hurricane https://twitter.com/VelocityChasing/status/651724258100559872/photo/1 where the heck is this thing going to go !!
  5. well you never turn your back on a hurricane Still holding strength as it races north-east towards cold waters Looking at the track, i fail to see how this will not effect some parts of the Uk, in some way https://stormpulse.com/hurricane-joaquin/
  6. NHC update now mentions as an ex-tropical storm, it'll have gale to storm force winds The wind field expands outwards, so everything is not tightly packed around the centre as it is with hurricanes It was March a few years ago when a storm took a similar track from south-west Ireland down to Bay of Biscay Sure it missed most of the Uk, but south-west england took a battering, i remember it well
  7. Not a done deal yet with the ex-hurricane Also reading suggestions in the latest advisory for the NHC, that it could become a powerful extra-tropical cyclone, getting some extra forcing from a baroclinic zone, which would slow down, the spin down of the wind speeds
  8. Bring up the 5 day track on the latest advisory Coming in towards western Ireland by the end of the forecast period Extra-tropical, but still winds of 65mph... not much short of hurricane force Going to be watching this one close, this week
  9. Now, the remnants of Henri, i just looked at a Mirror article with a sat pic, the caption underneath said 'remnants of Hurricane Henri' Not true, Henri was only a tropical storm They use words like 'dire weather' Give me a break, a bit of wind & rain, is perfectly normal for this time of year People never used to make this much fuss over the weather. At least this will whip up some waves, as the ocean has been flat recently, at least the surfers have something to cheer about !!
  10. Does this mean no more David Braine on Spotlight (who followed wonderfully on from Craig Rich) Decent professional weather forecasts
  11. well, nothing for me, as usual but, we've still got live streaming webcams La Rochelle, right now, has storms in the area Some lightning flashes here http://www.viewsurf.com/univers/ville/vue/12460-france-poitou-charentes-la-rochelle-panoramique-temps-reel
  12. Storms are taking their time, but multiple areas of storms out there Southern Bay of Biscay has recently exploded with lightning strikes, so that could be another round for some of us, later tomorrow
  13. They are firing up down south, but i'll hold off, since The English Channel is a classic storm killer. The thunder may get sucked out, and we end up with outbreaks of thundery rain instead
  14. The most electric place on Earth http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20150810-the-most-electric-place-on-earth It's where the storm lovers would want to be 28 lightning flashes every 60 seconds. I'll take that (or rather a camera would)
  15. Thunder heard here, and it's not even raining Not a big storm, it's been overcast all day here, no sun
  16. Webcam for La Rochelle - if the Biscay storms head that way, they aren't there yet Double click = full screen http://www.viewsurf.com/univers/ville/vue/12460-france-poitou-charentes-la-rochelle-panoramique-temps-reel
  17. watching storms in channel backbuilding to the south. more breaking out to the east should they continue to move north-east, i'm guessing they make landfall somewhere central-south coast
  18. lightning across north-west france does not look very frequent at the moment, but it's a start. Hey, better than nothing
  19. Well i don't want heat on Friday, cause i'm moving, and i will be walking a long steep staircase about 50 to 60 times, whilst carrying stuff (jesus) I see the Met Office have not yet issued any heat advisory warnings, they usually do, when a heatwave is expected. Just a yellow warning for isolated storms for the north of England
  20. the hot air must be arriving, cause my temper is going up fed up with media hype about heatwaves, yes, the east & south-east could get a few hot days out of this but for other parts of the Uk, it'll be more like 24 hours, before the heat is swept away to the east, taking the risk of any storms with it I'm not sure this is a 'real' spanish plume, whilst yes, the increasing temperatures are coming from the south I keep looking at lightning maps, and there is nothing, portugal, spain, bay of biscay, france To me, a real Spanish Plume, is also storms breaking out down south, and then moving north, in the hot humid airmass Wouldn't surprise me, if the usual happens here, with most storms staying over France, and then moving north-east into the low countries As the last thunder attempt a few weeks ago, was a dud for the uk
  21. Not feeling confident on storms now, got carried away with all the hype over the weekend Some warm pleasant weather on either side, but in terms of the west, it seems the heat will be a short-lived affair I think it'll be the usual story by the end of the week, people watching massive storms (possible MCS) over France, and hoping it travels over the Channel, and into the south-east
  22. Excited for Uk chances for storms next week Nothing today of course, but i'm getting in the mood for what is hopefully to come Major storms breaking out now just west of Frankfurt, Germany Watch live with this cam, i've seen some lightning strikes (13:10) http://www.wetter.com/wettercom-live/frankfurt/533298891af60/
  23. I've got childhood memories, being scared through the night, storms that seemed to go on for much of the night. Spanish plume situation, where the storms must have trained one after another, coming up from the south. Thunder that would shake the furniture inside the house. Very frequent lightning I can't actually remember the last 'proper' storm around here, counting out the odd heavy shower, with a distant crack of thunder Watching the lightning strike map over a period of time (for the whole of Europe) - you can figure out where the most frequent storms occur It seems that south-eastern part of France, is a favoured spot. Been a lot of storms down in the Med, recently
  24. I have memories of great storms, during Spanish plumes, the storms would march up through bay of biscay and west france they brush that english channel aside, and continue on north, without weakening it'll happen again one day, just have to be patient
